Sunderland might have been the better team with the ball tonight, but they only have 2 shots at goal. One of them is a missed penalty. We had 4. So its not really who is best with the ball if they cant finish. But I have to say, we had some problem stringing passes together today.

My view on the game from a Sunderland perspective,

SAFC the better team in the first half and Sheffield United the better team in the second period.

Sunderland cant expect to miss a penalty and give up other clear cut opportunities and not pay the price and in the end you always pay the price for missing gilt edged opportunities.

You now have to go back 7 games for our last win and I wouldn't oppose anyone saying that we haven't got the legs or the squad for the long drawn out affair that this league is. We have some serious thinking to do or we will fade away and find ourselves on the edges of the top 6 if we aren't careful. Draws and losses get you nowhere.

I've got no complaints with the result and the top 3 will march on. Whether we will see you again later on in the season remains to be seen.

A sobering night for Sunderland.
If it's any consolation you are the best side we have played this season, certainly at the Lane anyway.

Really enjoyed that!! Great game, SOOPER COOPER won it for us! A loss or draw for Leeds tomorrow would also be ideal…..

But we got stronger and Wilder has made some good calls with subs this season which I never recall him being great at. RND when Burrows looked out on his feet Sam McCallum came on and gave us an out ball for two goal kicks in time added on But the Serki substitution was the game changer. Gilchrist look quite good at Centre Half

Fair enough summary, however you have blown your best chance to beat us under the current circumstances. Arguably our best CM is out for the season, missing Anel at CB and then losing Soutter to a red tonight has left us threadbare. Add in Moore and Brewster are still out upfront and you have never had a better opportunity to beat us.
Hopefully both teams have a fully fit squad for the return fixture and we get a better game, and I hope you finish above them tramps from Teesside.

The joy of actually winning aside surely nobody can honestly believe we deserved to? Football is not a game that understands the concept of justice but we were outplayed in the first half and although we were a whole lot better afterwards they still looked to have a lot more cohesion and threat than we did.

Our only attacking outlet was having someone run forward with the ball, which Seriki did to great effect, but we're not going to keep getting results like that against better sides playing like this - in fact we already haven't, this was the first time in three games we've wrestled points from one of our main rivals.

I know it's not great to be putting a dampener on things already but though we look a class above mid-table cannon fodder we haven't looked any more than battlers against good sides.

Feck it, though, I'm happy enough.

Great result considering we were second best for most of the game. Great strength and stamina to get 3 points from that. Chuffed for Tom Davies.

Some very tired performances out there. Souttar has looked shattered since the international break. I guess now he gets a rest, but really stupid sending off again. Robbo walking a tightrope as well.

Cooper kept us in it. They ran us a bit ragged first half, at times, but more even after the break. We dealt with 10 men better. Thankfully, they don't really have a cutting edge.

I thought Gilchrist did well. Definitely the right decision to start him. Hamer kept going and always looked dangerous. Our midfield was outclassed for much of the game.

Once again, we have nothing up top. Without Moore there's no outball and we just end up passing it around and then giving it away. We're managing to keep winning despite this at the moment. Not sure that's going to keep being the case.

I'd have bene shocked if you'd told me in summer that we'd be top of the league at the beginning of December. Credit where it's due to the manager, coaches and players. Let's hope we can bring IN reinforcements in the JTW.

We're getting a fair bit of luck, which makes a nice change. Been a while!
