Wasn't terrible , wasn't great .

Southampton forced 2 great saves and a pen in the 1st half so despite the 1-0 scoreline we knew what was coming .

Played well in parts , ref had one to forget.

Not into doom and gloom , a typical championship match really .

Mixture of good bad and ugly .

Hm.

I remember a season when Happy Harry signed Alex Sabella to get us out of what is now the Championship.

We started slowly, but still kept talking about promotion.

As we slid into Div 3. 😯
Its going the same way mate👍

Been the other way you would scream foul
I think we looked much better tonight, well first half in particular.

When we keep hold of the ball and move it around we look ok, without Davies we don’t really have much of a threat in the final third tho.

Hamer was a passenger. As much as I love him, how often does he actually show up?
Same with ohare, I’m a big fan of his but he only shoots if he literally has to and just gets brushed off by bigger opppenents.

Not sure what I expected from Ogbene to be honest but I hoped he would be a proper winger who got to the byline and got the ball into the box?

Once again we can’t cope with set pieces of a high press. Stewart’s goal was a great strike but he was given far too much room to shoot.

We also had two glorious chances to score second half and really should have done.

To top it all off, the referee was genuinely one of the worst I have seen for a long time. Seemed to blow for literally any contact first half. Then second half was horrendously inconsistent. To disallow the goal for what cannon did was utterly bizarre considering what he ‘ignored’ by defenders previously.

On the whole I expected us to lose before the game and it was akin to many performances last season.
Agree with your summing up. We didn't get the rub of the green tonight but still created some good chances. Yes we should have closed down better for their 2nd goal but even then there was a lucky deflection to put the ball in Stewart’s path. After viewing Peck's 'goal' several times I think it should have been allowed as there was little interference with the keeper, it was Cannon, how could there be. A very poor ref, yes we could and must do better , but there is a better look to the team and they still need time to gel. Personally thought Ogbene did well.
We do need Hamer to start firing again and if he does we will see a big improvement.
Hopefully we can push on against Hull.

Best performance of the season but still only 5/10.

Davies made a big difference.

Still unclear why we're not playing 352, feels obvious and there are clear gaps and flaws in the current set up that would be solved, and I strongly believe it would get more out of practically everyone in each position.

Baffled why we think it's ok to play 1 up front at home. In the past this has been a huge issue and enough for crowds to turn on the manager. I will die on this hill - I understand doing it away from home but on our own ground the aim is to attack and win the game. If we had super creative midfielders and / or a number 9 who could do everything then fine, but we don't. Two up front FFS.

know o'hare got us the 3pts at oxford but for me we need to get campbell and ings as a front 2 in a 3412 formation and if hamer is the one behind the 2 o'hare cant start davies and matsos central midfield and seriki for ogbene dont rate him either
Sorry mate, it's an absolute shambles of recruitment, between Selles/ Wilder and whoever the fckg! Owners are! Theve fckd us up big and proper!

Some positives from the game. First half we looked organised at the back. Tanganga is comfortable on the RCB spot. Ogbene can read the game and gets back to help out. Though if he has too much time on the ball he gets indecisive. Second half he was more aggressive in attack and overall he is improving each game.

It looked early on that we found good positions attacking though in moves with multiple passes we were just marginally off on accuracy and the receiving player had to adjust his feet to control the ball which slowed the ability to shoot or make a killer pass.

The second half revealed that we need Arblaster back in the middle with either Peck or Davies. Tonight's duo with Hamer and O'Hare means that all four take too many touches on the ball. Second half that got exposed as they were continually pressed by strong athletic types who either won the ball back or pressured enough that our passes became too complex. We got bullied about. While Davies worked hard and did some good things we need a midfielder who can move the ball more quickly and be more direct attacking wise.

The first goal is all about reacting quickly to get a block in. Unfortunately we were looking at the ball rebounding and were not quick enough to react. Cooper is well off of his best. As is Burrows. He was good most of the game but his head dropped after the goal.

Yet again the subs coming on weaked the team. Cannon is so bad, Brewster seemed like Pele in comparison. I think we would do better with 10 players instead of putting him on.

Overall if you are being physically bullied in the middle of the pitch you have to move the ball quickly and more directly because holding on to it is only asking for trouble.
