Portsmouth when playing away are near bottom for shots attempted and possession.

They will sit back for 90 mins in a low block.

Interested to see if Wilder picks Vini and Hamza together for this game as even tho both played well last time out, this is absolutely not the game for both to start!

(especially with those around us picking up 3 pts recently)

It'll probably be a scrappy 1 nil win but have a feeling this could be our first big scoring win of the season. I'm going 5 or 6 nil 🤔👀

Referee Oliver Langford has only reffed 19 games this season but given a whopping 5 penalties and 70 yellow cards in that time.

They have named Marks Stevens & Ian Cooper as Assistant Referees (or linesmen as we used to call them )
Do they actually do anything during a game
They don’t seem to see anything that happens on the pitch
They often don’t flag which way the throws should go, and wait for the ref to intimate this.
When the ref gets a decision wrong they don’t pull him up on it
They do flag offside (very late) & often reluctantly

Having been a Sheffield & Halamshire ref also running the line myself, I really see no point in linesman nowadays

I’ve got a funny feeling things will click tomorrow and we’re gonna see a goal plenty game in our favour.

We rarely give anyone a hiding bar maybe Oxford so I’m hoping I’m right. Caution exercised too though, not saying Pompey are gonna turn over and have their bellies tickled but I do think it’s about time we made a proper statement.

Team for me would be an attacking 4-3-3 with Hamer in behind the strikers.

Cooper

Clarke Anel Robbo Burrows

Choudray Souza

Hamer

Campbell Cannon BBD

Subs:

Ohare
Brewster
Peck
Brooks
JRS
A Davies
Holding

Starting fast is the key.. but we'll most likely go with two defensive midfielders playing tippy tappy sideways passing.
oh dont say that if there was any game to start on the front foot and high tempo this is the one especially now were 5 behind weeds no excuses for not getting a convincing win tomorrow

Really looking forward to this…..it will be on paper our strongest squad of the entire season to date.
For the 1st time we’ll actually have a high quality bench…so it all bodes well.

I think the key to our season…..regards promotion is the centre half situation.
1st part of the season I’d rate
Souttar 8.5 out of 10
Ahmedhodzic 7.5 out of 10 and
Robinson 7 out of 10.

Losing Souttar for the season was a massive blow. The clean sheet machine has gone, now we look like conceding 1 goal every match.

We desperately needed someone better than Robinson
Regards our targets I’d rate Dunne as 7.5 and Tanganga as 8 out of 10, both guaranteed upgrades.

Instead we’ve gone for Holding and the issue with his is we don’t know what we’ve got…he could be anything from a 7 out of 10…no upgrade on JLT
To a 8.5 out of 10….comfortably too good for the Championship turning our defence into a clean sheet machine again.

Will also be great to see Hamer back and how he interacts with BBD and Cannon.
So much to feel exciting about…..who will be starting 11 be? surely this game should be at least 2 or 3-0.
I’ll be particularly interested in the overall performance and if we show signs that this team might gel and produce impressive top of the league type displays.

We’re playing Boro on Wednesday and Leeds in a few weeks
So instead of playing a calm controlling (Burnley style) in 1st and 2nd gear…like we’ve done almost all season
we need to start showing signs that we can raise it to 4th and 5th gear blowing teams away…..as we’ll need that intensity to beat Leeds and Burnley.

Hopefully with more potent attackers things will click into gear. But wins are the most important thing of course, short term.

If we play Souza and Choudhury and a back 4 we have 7 players who barely get over the half way line. Against lower table sides at home we have to be more attacking but I'm not sure Wilder will see it the same.

Cooper
Clarke Holding Anel Burrows
JRS Hamer Choudhury Ohare BBD
Campbell

With a very strong bench

Clarke Gilchrist Anel Burrows
Souza Peck

Let’s go for this all guns blazing, they’re not very good and our attack is too good for this level if utilised correctly.

We owe Portsmouth for our failure to score at Fratton Park and I have to say I am cautiously optimistic that we can score up to 2 goals

You can’t not start Souza

As I have said in the Bladespod thread Pompey last won at the Lane in 1955-6, and they are winless in 23 league and 2 cup games since then, our longest current run by miles.

Try to play front foot attacking football from the off , and play all the best players , no fcking about. Clarke was an upgrade and helps offensively so hope he keeps his place and hamer comes straight back in, 2-0 blades
