Please don't paper over the cracks ….we didn't score end of ...we were shit in fact pathetic tonight. I have a long journey back to Manchester thinking what could or should have been! We were never gonna score in a million years be bloody honest! I'm fuming!!!

At least everyone has been cack.

No scapegoats. Just a general lukewarm performance. Everyone's got lead boots on, and they've all had a big dinner.

Think McBurnie has actually been alright, he's just not got that pace we need.

On reflection, Moose and McBurnie is fine, or McG and McBurnie, but not Sharp and McBurnie, too slow, and they're both holding it up for others rather than having a shot on goal.

'A tactical masterclass from Bruce'
Sheffield United 0-2 Newcastle

Steve Bruce came in under severe pressure and he's outperforming everyone's expectation. It was a tactical masterclass, it's normally how his team set-up but it really nullified all of Sheffield United's attack.

Commentators Talking like Newcastle have just demonstrated a defence masterclass when in reality we should have been 2 or three up after 45 minutes. We have got to start taking these chances, its becoming to common a theme, regardless of who is playing up front.

Well better just forget about that one and get ready for the next one.

To a man, apart from maybe Norwood in the first half, they were poor.

No swagger, no belief. Even with Moose, McG, McBurnie and Freeman on we looked like we didn't know what to do.

Fleck and Lundstram were just not at it at all, and Stevens had a rare poor game.

VAR was ridiculous and needs looking at, hopefully it diverts traffic from the anti McBurnie posts.

Need to move on from that quickly.

Huge mistake in the starting line up. Thankfully he probably won't do the same away at Norwich. Bruce the man. Out thought us. Out fought us. Easy in possession and despite their keeper making a couple of pretty routine saves it was a very controlled easy smash and grab.

Jonjo shelvey just said the ref told him before the match to play on if linesman put flag up? Did he tell everyone this?

Quick thoughts: Old Brucey won the tactical battle against Wilder in this one, they knew exactly where we going to play it down the channels and suffocated us quite easily. Having said that our passing was too slow and laboured and we often over complicated things by trying to force an extra pass when a cross into the box was an option.

Our back up strikers did have a few chances early to put is in front which would have changed the dynamic of the game, however once they scored the first i think we could have played for 900 minutes and still not scored.

Fair play to them they did what they needed to do, and we needed to be sharper and more dynamic which we unfortunately weren't.

To be honest credit to shelvey, knock it in and let var decide, Henderson should do the same because I think if the keeper had bust a gut hed have saved it because shelvey was a little half hearted

If we aren't 2 or 3 up who is the master class? Defence or attack? We are a world class striker away from being top 4. We don't have one, and if we had a good one, he didnt start today

I love shelvey. I hope we could sign him but I guess he'd be a bit too expensive. I've never thought he was a cunt of the highest order, ever

First time I’ve been bored watching us. That says it all for me.

Feels like I've not watched us. It's like when you fall asleep and don't know what time it is. It's just suddenly 9:30 and I don't know what's happening.

I don't blame Wilder for changing the front 2, the front 2 he played simply aren't good enough. Newcastle sit and so Moose's pace is nullified and McGoldrick won't drag defenders out. Plus, they will start at the weekend so if he was going to rest them this month, it was probably the best game.

Henderson - Should have made an effort. Abysmal decision to half-ass it.
Defence - Bash at fault for the first. I have no idea what the fuck the defence was doing for the second. Egan got out-jumped (as we were all night) and the other CBs were in fullback positions. Defence, to me, looked easy to slice through all night. They hardly attacked yet when they did only their own incompetence seemed to defeat them.
Midfield - We played like Arsenal use to play. Slow, tap it sideways, tap it back, tap it to the wing etc. It was way too unpredictable. Lack of imagination and lack of speed. Need to take a chance on a game like this. Midfielder not getting forward enough.
McBurnie - Looks like a tall boy in a man's game. No strength. Goes down like a sack of spud in a mild breeze. He has ability and will improve but his basics are nowhere near good enough for top flight football at the moment.
Sharp - He's probably playing towards the top-end of his ability but not good enough at this level.
Freeman - Looks rubbish Sorry, I know hardly playing will be a massive factor but he looks overawed and uncertain.
Wilder - Should have been brave earlier and taken a defender off at half time and pushed an extra midfielder on. We looked a bit clueless tonight, both team and manager. Playing against teams who park the bus is our Achilles heel. We need to sort that out in summer if we stay up.
Team - We looked like some of the confidence has gone. As soon as they scored we lost something and the second defeated us. Tiredness seems to be kicking in and that spark and determination is flickering more and more. W ecould use a couple of fresh faces in January.

First time I’ve been bored watching us. That says it all for me.

Second half was dull as dishwater and its been a while since we have been like that. We didn't move the ball fast enough and allowed them to get everyone back.

Also, very disappointed in the reaction of the players after that second went in. There was more than enough time left in the match to do something.

"tactical masterclass" that's a funny way of describing park the bus, 11 men behind the halfway line tactics.

We lost to these at home, so know how you feel. Always pees you off.
All you can do, games like this, is (the players) hopefully learn from it.
Norwich away next? They've started picking up points & have some good players, so watch out.

Not going to knock any of them. We've been outstanding this season. We have over achievied so far. If anyone needs to look at themselves it's the moaners in the crowd when our player hits a misplaced pass. Thought the crowd didn't get behind them when it was really needed. Yes I'm as gutted as everyone else at losing that so if anyone starts having a pop because I've mentioned the lack of noise you can do one coz I'm off to bed! :D

Can’t argue with any of that, i think you got it spot on

apparently there was a game of football on tonight. i thought id gone to see VARball.

but i thought we played well 1st half . it was continuation of where the Sheffield derby left off, camped in the Steve Bruce half with 10 men behind ball & us missing a load of glorious chances. newcastle goalie was incredible, so frustratingly impressive & man of the match. but 2nd half i thought we were good but had our momentum stopped at every turn because of the constant faking of injuries, physio needs a pay rise. ref ignoring the dark arts

That linesman needs sacking. Does anyone know who it was so we can at least know when he returns. He in effect sealed the game. Disgusting. Wilder said if it was the other way round there would have been thousands of geordies baying for blood. Perhaps he thought the fans weren't vocal enough.

Wilder outdone tactically, tactical masterclass.

Absolute bullshit.

Having everyone behind the ball and hoping that the opposition don't score is not a fucking masterclass.
