This is very much David vs Goliath, Rocky vs Drago.
Nobody even gives us an outside chance.
But they are men. They are exceptional men. But they are men and men can be hurt. Men have weaknesses.
Maybe they are tired from playing later and from the hassle and fatigue of travelling.
No doubt we need much to go our way. But we are Sheffield United. We are not some non-league cloggers who can’t put a pass together. We are a club that associates itself with grit and determination. Run harder, work harder. Maybe today, we can do. Maybe they’re tired. Tired minds make mistakes. Maybe they rest too many and they don’t get going.
It could be anything. But this is our Cup Final. We can raise our games because of that. Bayern-Sheffield United-Arsenal; is it really the one they raise their performance above all others?
Look at when Burnley came to town, very much in the City mould. Well maybe they have the same weaknesses? Get Robbo launching the ball into their box and get McBurnie roughing them up and Ahmedhodzic attacking the ball. A new baby on the way, a few recent overhead kicks just missing. What better day to do it!
Some have said Ortega is a better shot stopper. But how is how on crosses? How is he being roughed up?
Maybe, just maybe, they don’t like it up ‘em, this City side? Your Bayerns and Madrids, they’re too arrogant to do anything other than try to out-football City. But perhaps the basics of men v men is where we get into them. How tall are they? Phillips and Gundogan are both short for example. Berge and Coulibaly (if he plays) are not. Perhaps we just make it a physical battle and as long as we stay the right side of the law, this might just be our way in.
Who knows? But if they are expecting an easy tie or for us to just let them out-football us without giving them something to think about, well, perhaps they are in for a surprise. We know what David did to Goliath and what Rocky did to Drago. So who knows? Maybe it’s not a surprise they’re in for, but a shock!
