Good 3 points always going be tricky against team fighting for survival and on a decent run👍

22 shots on goal. Dominated, shame a few of those shots couldn’t have gone in, absolutely massive win though.

That'll do. Decent performance against their back 11 and could have got a handful of goals.

Wigan never threatened. Comfortable win. One good Wes save from a header their only notable chance. Scoreline flattered them.

ST holders off on holidays?
Yep - in our case. 5 empty seats on JSS. Shame because if there was some sort of club-run marketplace that you could use to resell the seats for those games or even give them away to a local good cause i’d be happy to do that.

Am in South of France for my son’s u15 football team’s tournament. All other dads are Wednesday fans and they have been watching their lot on iPlayer whilst taking piss out of us because they won the Rumbelows cup etc etc.

You can imagine the size of my grin with today’s results. Karma is truly a bitch sometimes.

There really not the full shilling are they?

Doesn't matter though, every single seat available was sold

We could have made that easier a huge 3 points. 5 points extended over Luton in last two games and let's hope it's 6 over Middlesbrough! Huge at this stage of the year

It's a good feeling to win and not even care about other results. Happy days.

A few thoughts on today:

Paul Merson just gave a surprisingly decent summary of the game

We saw it out comfortably for the first time in a long time

Berge looked a lot better today. He was confident and used his strength, particularly in the first half, and it was good to see. Wouldn't go as far as saying he looked more aggressive, but definitely more confident

Norwood is rusty. He needs a lot more minutes as he's a guaranteed starter against Man City

"Norwood to Fleck" is not something we should be hearing in 2023

Made it incredibly hard for ourselves but a fairly comfortable 1:0 win in the end. We should have scored several more but bad finishing and poor decisions could have cost us. Dominated the game for much of the 90 minutes. Wigan game us a few worries but didn't really test Wes. Too much Arsenalling around the edge of their box. Need to be quicker with our decision making and make much better decisions in the final third. 22 shots is impressive but 4 on target is not. They defended resolutely but we seemed to keep giving them the chance to block or get back. They looked most likely to score on the break and on a number of occasions we played a very dangerous game at the back, committing too many forward and allowing them to counter off our mistakes.

Wes - 6 - Had little to do really.
Baldock - 7 - Thought he did well on the left for a change. The only downside is that he wasn't prepared to take them on down the outside.
Robbo - 7 - Did pretty well, although there were a couple of hear in mouth movements as well.
Egan - 7.5 - Really solid in the centre. in the right place at the right time all afternoon
Anel - 7 - Apart from one iffy moment when his clearance almost set them up, good defensively. He tried to get forward a lot and did some really good thing but also was reckless on a couple of occasions. Tries a shot, cross or daft pass and leaves a huge whole behind him. Trotted into the box a few too many times as well. A mistake from him was Wigan's most likely avenue to score. Needs to make better decisions.
Bogle - 6 - As does Bogle, who defended pretty well but kept running into blind alleys going forward. Seems to take an extra touch and get crowded out too often.
McAtee - 6 - Mixed. A good assist for the goal but lacked composure on a number of other occasions. His final ball, touch, decision was lacking today. Still, causes teams a lot of headaches and seems to drift into space and get into some great decisions.
Doyle - 7.5 - Did well in the middle and kept the ball moving well. Always up for having a shot which is good to see. Broke play up well.
Berge - 7.5 - I thought he had his best game for a long time today. Seemed to cover much more ground and get forward and back well. Looked to use his first touch much better today.
Ndiaye - 7.5 - Player of the Match for me. His touch is incredible at times and makes some really good runs. In the right place for the goal and really should have had another. Laid on a few other good chances as well.
Sharp - 6.5 - Looked frustrated with himself. Should have scored when their keeper made a good save and had a free header he should have buried as well. Led the line really well though and caused them a lot of problems. Needs to be a bit more savvy when tackling back. Hear in mouth moment at the edge of our box.

Subs:

Norwood -4.5 - Thought he was poor. Made a number of really poor decisions on the ball and struggled to get up with the pace.
McBurnie - 6 - Ineffective when he came on. Linked up play quite smartly but the ball tended to bounce off him.
Fleck - 7 - Tidy when he came on. Unlucky not to get a penalty for a good run into the box, but pressed and covered well.

Hecky - 8 - Can't really fault the way we set up and started. We dominated much of the play but were poor in and around their box. The substitutions made sense but I don't think the first two strengthened us.

Wigan - Looked like the team they are. Made a game of it and defended really well but lack the quality to punish us. Still, I think they have a fighting chance while they play like that. I was impressed with McLean. Seemed to be in the right place on several occasions.

Mate, you should see them, we’ve spent all day wandering around a French resort as they were somehow convinced there would be a bar showing Wednesday v Oxford. Had to remind them that it wasn’t the Boat Race therefore they didn’t have a snowball’s chance of running into anyone arsed about Oxford. Eventually back at campsite and one of ‘‘em got it on ifollow. They scored and you’d have thought they’d won the Premier League. Strangely subdued now.
Lovely blokes by the way, just an awful blind spot when it comes to football!

In what respect did we make it incredibly hard for ourselves ?

Looked like a walk In the fucking park to me lad and I'm normally off the scale Mr anxiety during games watching us

Tbh we should be killing games of instead of getting my heart in palpations with controlling football.
Big shout out to Baldock he did outstanding at LB this afternoon
Another 3 points now 9 clear with a game in hand a win or draw on monday would see us just fine.

Totally agree a comfortable 1-0 win, I would have taken that today, nice 3 points at Turf Moor and then we can enjoy the run in

Well, if Boro don't win tonight, that's probably us promoted

Not that the vast majority of the ground seemed remotely aware of it

Very strange vibe all things considered

Ridiculous that it was 1-0. We didn't play great but it should have been 4 or 5, without exaggerating. Would have taken absolutely any win though and we got it and now we'll be playing City in the league next season so that is just fine I guess

Job done, not the prettiest and should probably have finished the game off but well deserved and not really threatened defensively.

now that's a good friday. i thought that was a good performance even if we have made it tougher than we should. as wigan upped their game today because on that basis you have to wonder how wigan are bottom of the league with 2 wins in 16 in 2023

but saying that we should have been 3-0 up & out of sight at half time. on another day but for brilliant goalkeeping & poor refereeing we couldve won that comfortably 4, 5, 6-0 at full time. i felt for billy. he mustve been celebrating goal 250 til that cracking save from ben amos & then again in the 2nd half

Nice finish from ndiaye. but so much credit has to go to mcatee. fantastic to win back the ball then great build up play & then picked out a great cross

now we have heaped the pressure on Middlesboro. lose to burnley & if we can win our 2 home games. Middlesboro & luton lose 1 of the next 3 . we could have funny moment where we are on 82 & they can only get 82. itv have to explain we're celebrating like weve scored when man city have ball on halfway line

Well I'm having more celebratory beer after a few earlier watching here. Come on Burnley next.

It's 8

Well we have done all we can, a win is a win, sure we could have scored more but we got there and that's what counts especially at this stage of the season!

Over to you now Burnley.

A very important win!
C'mon the Clarets - but not on Monday, of course.
One concern... Another booking for Anel.
How many bookings does he have in hand b4 another ban?
