Seriki

Insanely harsh. Started the opening three then got replaced by Godfrey who was significantly worse than him. Seriki didn’t play well and wasn’t showing the attributes that made him break through last season, but he was never the worst defender in that period. He also impacted a lot of games from the bench last season too, and preferring Shackleton over him in the squad clearly makes our subs weaker. Shackleton doesn’t have the ability to impact the game in the same way.
I get your point & agree with it. I think he’s gone for experience over Seriki & One as we’re struggling. Wilders known for wanting strong characters in his squad, maybe that’s the reason while we’re at the bottom of the league

Mmmm, none of the squad performed in the first 6 games. Why single out Femi?
Maybe its clever man management. It may fire him up and spur him on, some players need that type and other need a shoulder round and to be more loving to.

Im sure we will find out if it works or not lol.

What the quote doesn't say is what came next. "Jamie Shackelton has come into the squad and he has played that position in the Premier League".

Just gives the impression Shackelton an injury prone player with none of the physical attributes and pace of Seriki is being shoe horned into the squad similar to what Brewster was last season to justify the signing.

Seriki is a promising young lad still.

But I think some are reading this a bit wrong. It's likely a choice between naming Seriki or Shackleton on the bench right now.

Wilder is suggesting that Seriki will need to up his training levels to force that way in. In addition Wilder is talking about utilising players who have more experience to help the squad get out of the mire.

It makes sense that he might favour Shackleton at this time.

For me Seriki has come on leaps since 2022. He's clearly a force going forward.
But not always as strong defensively. This could also be key in Wilders decision making too.

If you actually listen to the audio he didn't. Cooper, burrows, Campbell all get called out directly too and he says others also have had iffy spells. It's hardly a shock we lost every game in the time he's talking about

We don't see what Wilder sees day to day in training. I say it through gritted teeth, but i can only assume Cannon is the type of player who gets there early, helps put the cones out, trains like a ninja, then on stays late to help tidy up. Whereas Seriki and One turn up late, arse about in training, then fuck off the minute they're allowed to.

Generalising, but having been around top sporting programmes, you get all kinds of behaviours and when things start getting tough it's not always about raw ability.

For me the biggest scandal of the whole Summer is we went in with zero RBs and we've come out with zero RBs....

Nah getting weaker as a strike force was

Playing devil’s advocate, but if that’s true then perhaps training isn’t as important as it’s made out to be?

No, the biggest scandal of the whole summer, was sacking CW and the board then appointing Ruben the Clown without interviewing anyone else. But i agree with your point about lack of right backs. Another blind spot for the club (well maybe not as we were linked with that South Korean fella but we never pulled the trigger and got him in).

What all of them? No wonder he can't manage 90 minutes.

This common misconception is that Seriki is some young lad, and for some reason gets a free pass because he's from the academy. He clearly isn't good enough/too injury prone otherwise he would have broken through properly. He's 22 now. Same age as Tom Cannon, but he gets pelters for not being good enough because we paid a fee for him. At least Cannon must be doing something to justify his selection and also just by being fit!
Selles knew we needed a right back, for some reason the board got him a CB for right back, Wilder got 2 right backs last season and was wanting Jimmy Dunne too! Tells me all I need to know about Seriki, not good enough unfortunately.

Could also be something simple like a disciplinary issue that they don't want to make public. This is fairly common at clubs I think.

Agree, I've just never got the hype around seriki myself.

And look what happened when he dropped Burrows and Campbell, then called them off the bench. Sometimes it's what a player needs to give them a kick up the backside and it worked a treat at Blackburn.

Thought his confidence has looked shot for a while, probably do him good a spell out, He will be a player

Is Ogbene really a better option than Seriki? Seriki is 23 years old now (although wikipedia says 22- everywhere else says 23), not so young anymore that we can keep touting him as "one for the future", so if he's really worse than Ogbene and Godfrey we may as well get shut. Perhaps we should give the lad a run in the side - sink or swim time.

sick to death of Wilder trying to justify his signings. Cannon, Shackleton, weak as piss. Brewster, well! He doesn’t see that players like Barry are just not cut out for it. Seriki is strong, quick and offers far more than ogbene. Get him involved.

The only thing cannon does to justify his appearances is simply “signed by Chris Wilder”. Nobody, and I mean absolutely fucking nobody would be playing him after his performances this season. The equivalent of a hole punched condom up front. Completely and utterly pointless playing him. Seriki isn’t playing because Wilder, highly doubt it’s down to attitude, he’s sixteen times the player than Shackleton is, yet Shackleton gets picked… why? Change it up. Who’s going to impact a game more?

we’ve seen it with Brooks.. “not playing cause attitude” - I think it translates to “takes risks which I can’t stand to see”.

I agree with Wilder about the issue being an attitude problem. But I disagree it’s the players attitudes that are the problem.

As usual 75% of today’s debate is about Wilder not Sheffield United. There by hangs the problem.

We are in for a few years of same old same old until his inevitable flounce or sacking. Until then this club will not move forwards imo.

Shackleton's only significant appearance since he signed was in the nature reserve near Cas

Er no, just making way for his prize players Shackleton and Cannon. That’s why we are where we are. Wish wilder would stay a legend and not keep trying to come back

Not as ITK as you are mate, didn't know that's why he'd been dropped

And CW was a RB and you’d think he’d REALLY know about that position and get it sorted.
