Selles interviews

I’m hopeful he can walk the walk. I say hopeful cause like everyone else I don’t know if he’s the man to deliver. But, the owners are being bold and trying, it’s their club, their money their strategy.

All I can do as a fan is get behind them, the manager and the team and hope the plan works. That’s all I’ve got.

If it works I’ll revel in it, if it fails I’ll complain and no doubt want change. But at least they’re trying to move forward not just trying to stand still. So all I’ve got is to get behind them and not sound like some hoping they’ll fail.

I was encouraged that he was quite definite that he has the final word on transfers. Even said that it was agreed. I got the impression it was a stipulation by him. So I think the board "yes man" and "just a coach" can now be dismissed.
Came across as a man with a plan. Confident, intense, assertive and knowledgeable.
Let's hope vertical football is the right plan.

He came across well in the interview.

The balance between implementing his ideas and undoing Wilder's way that's ingrained in many players will be interesting to watch unfold. Selles seems to favour keeping the ball when you can and running with it, or quick forward passes when you can't. Our players have been drilled to get rid as soon as they get it and to always keep possession in doing so, often resulting in sideways and backwards passing.

'The most important thing is the teams stats, not the individuals stats'.

If you're only in it to pad your own CV, you're done. Going to be interesting to see who were left with come the end of the summer window.

If he didn’t say ‘this football club’, ‘culture carriers’, ‘1,000 games me you know’, ‘punters’ or ‘I gave the fans their club back’ then it’ll be a refreshing change.

I imagine Wilder would have added ‘92 point season’ and ‘record championship points total’ to his repertoire this season as well had he stayed.

Struggling to get excited , I didn't want Wilder to leave, I thought the rebuild at the beginning of last season would take more than one season and was hoping / expecting a more attacking dynamic approach next season , wether that would have happened, we will never know , but I do fear changing at what I thought was the half way point may cause more problems than it solves , The interview sounded good , attacking football etc , but that is not what Hull fans found , they did for a while but then it stopped , keeping Hull up was a success but the year before it went to last day of season for them to get in play offs so they should have been nowhere near the bottom but to be fair he did do his task , and no manager will give an interview saying he is going to play defensive football , I was actually annoyed and angry when it became apparent Wilder was leaving but then accepted new owners wanting their own man , but do feel their choice somewhat underwhelming, got to admit the idea of Ange coming with lets score more than you type football did get me excited especially in The Championship but I was probably thinking too high , but was hoping the new owners were too . I know I will now be accused of Wilder FC but that is not the case , I will be backing the new manager and any future managers , I think there is an amazing amount of pressure now to hit the ground running , immediately ,I really do hope that Selles takes over and becomes our greatest ever manager eclipsing Harris , Harry , Warnock and Wilder , I welcome him to BDTBL , despite many on here making out Wilder was rubbish, he is an incredibly hard act to follow, Maybe it will help me when the football actually starts . To those with doubts , like me , please don't start judging during the pre season friendlies, they are just that ,,My expectation after The Wembley disappointment was to win the league this coming season ,I am now left wondering if we will make the play offs I really hope , wish and prey that my gut feeling is wrong

In general, I like the sound of what he is suggesting footballing wise.

I think vertical football to me sounds like boot it as high in the air as possible 🤣

I'll start to get excited when we buy a RB and CB that looks like they're semi-decent....

Once we see who's going and who's staying we can start to be excited.

With the changes in personnel required and time to implement his new ideas I was hoping recruitment would get underway early this window. It's not looking like it so far.

It was one of the questions I hoped they were going to ask him about

Before the interview came out yesterday I asked myself now it's all settled and done do I feel we are any more likely to give autos a real shot under him.

And I couldn't say I do.

Interviews aren't really going to change that only signings, results and to a lesser extent performances will.

Selles is saying the right things (as you would expect from a new manager. He's not going to come out and say that its going to be a struggle, is he?)
What is good, is that he has indicated that he has a clear plan and vision for how he wants us to play and further said that he is likely to be supported by the owners in building on what is a very good base of a squad (pending any outgoings).
As I have said, in a previous post, hopefully he will be given the players that he needs to implement his style. There has been some talk of him ending up like Jokanovic in his disappointing spell in charge. The difference is that Jokanovic was sold down the river and didnt get the players that he wanted.
The limited information that we are getting is that this time, Selles will be supported.

There are no guarantees that the change of manager, style, personnel etc will be successful. Just as there were no guarantees that Wilder would have pushed on to be successful in the coming season.
The one constant is SUFC and we support them whatever the league they are in and whatever the level (or lack of) of success that is achieved. Whoever is in charge, we all should support the club/team.

It may take time for the changes to be effective. Hopefully the fickle members of our fanbase will allow sufficient time before jumping all over the management team/owners. The majority of us advocated for Wilder to have 2/3 transfer windows to get it right. the same goes for Selles.

Window's not officially open yet. All the 'deals' we're hearing about so far are prearrangements. I don't think players can't 'play' for their new clubs until they register with can't happen until after June 1st so signing early wouldn't nett anything, on the pitch. It'd just mean that others can't sign them I guess.

Yes I appreciate they cant sign until 1 July generally but I was looking at the likes of Hull who have signed 4 players and Norwich who have signed at least 3 with a modicum of envy.
I know its me being impatient I get excited at the prospect of us signing new players but I do think the last few pre seasons have been a last minute cobble together with little time to prepare the team tactically, I was just hoping Selles would have a little bit more time to work with his new squad but I understand especially with loan signings it can be tricky to get them done early.

will be very interesting tactics wise with selles very much doubt we will see this sideways backwards slow tempo football we had under wilder but it will need more movement from our midfielders to achieve that i just think its brave from the board and at the right time we needed a change of culture at the lane

It does give you that image but I think it means more direct in terms of breaking the lines quicker either through or over. If I have that image in my head I think Liverpool.as opposed to Man City. They play the ball quickly through the lines to get it to the likes of Salah or Diaz or sometimes over the top from Alexander Arnold to create a quick counter attack. Obviously we are going to be a poor mans version of but still ...

Agreed Railway. The question was...and i am paraphrasing....'given all the talk about data analysis and AI how much influence will u have on signings and will u get the final say?' ..... his answer was ' yes, yes that is what has been agreed...what you want from those tools is to be more efficient, its a support that we will use and already do use....the human element is massive but we also need to support our decision with the most objective tools that we have' he likened it to individuals using chatGPT to make every day life a little easier.

So hes basically saying that, the human element is critical, he wants players who improve the team stats not their own and the technology is there to add objectivity on players we are looking at but he will make the final decision.

Oh no, not another 'think Liverpool' 😂

I think the players that RS wants are all still tied up with U21 international or world club cup games.
