Classless by club announcing selles less than 1hr after sacking a club legend

At least the board are thinking in front just imagine if they’d sacked Wilder and didn’t have a replacement? I’d said to my mate when I saw the pic of Wilder on the plane going on a lads jolly that he’d gone he had that look of ‘sod ya’ about him.

...
"Fancy a pint."
"I'm good thanks Steven. I'm already at the pub now. Gotta go, one of my mates has just posted death threats to COH Group on their X account Honestly, I have to keep reminding him not to do this as it's doing me no favours."
- I'm having a barbeque later, Chris. Would you like to come over?
I'd love to, Steve! Do you mind if I bring my own case of Peroni?
- I'd rather you didn't, Chris, it's not that kind of party. Do you like mini kievs?
I love 'em, but my wife's vegetarian.
- It doesn't matter, she can have fish.
No she won't eat that either.
- OH FORGET IT! I'm calling Rubén! 😆

Great use of Partridge!

Chris Wilder is a legend. His first spell, from 2016 to 2021, was brilliant—the Dog and Duck league to 9th in the Premier League. Left and came back, did his best to try and get us back up to the Premier League. Before Oxford away, we were top of the championship, and all we had to do was win our remaining games. We blew it, and they blew it big time in the playoff Final. We all know what happened on and off the pitch. I am not going to slag Chris Wilder off. He deserves my respect, in my opinion. He is the third-best manager we have ever had; only The Legendary John Harris and the Legendary Dave Bassett were better managers. Chris Wilder never lost to wendy.I thank Chris for what he has done for us, and I wish Him all the best for the future.

Well said....

Was it classless? No, I think the term "read the room" might have been a little more appropriate.

I would have preferred them to hold off the Selles appointment until today, and announce Selles in a press conference where journalists could have asked him some questions.

But what is done is done, he's our manager now and deserves backing from both the club and us as fans.

Football fans needs to stop this obsession with being 'classy' what does that even mean. It's a business at the end of the day why would they fire one bloke and have no replacement.

What the fuck did you actually want? A leaving party on London Road for Wilder with the squad? Guarantee if they'd have waited a few days people would have been moaning we're pissing in the wind with no manager.

As Thomas Frank said of his predecessor at Spurs, we all stand on the shoulders of giants. Sellés hopefully will build on where Wilder leaves us.

It’s not a competition between the two men, it’s business, it’s moving on with no time to waste. I like that the owners were already on the next chapter before some fans were still decrying the decision.

Think classless sacking wilder and annoucing selles within an hour you dont do that to a club legend , even though we all knew from last Thursday really what was coning
And if we hadn’t announced him, then, some would be saying that we’d got rid of a manager without securing a replacement despite having a week to sort one, and what about the way Wilder took over from Heckingbottom?

No mate. We got 100pts in the Division 1 season, but that's not the point.

This is professional sport and I think the club have done the right thing in announcing the new man quickly. It stops all the doubt and speculation and projects a professional, positive attitude moving forward. Everyone knows where they stand and who is running things.

Wilder has already had one very generous pay-off for his efforts and now he will have a second one. We have supported him, stood by him, and put up with his childish strops when they weren't required or needed. He's done a fantastic job all-in-all, no doubt about that at all, but his job and his time here is done.

We owe him nothing (in my opinion).

I would have preferred a manager who has been a professional footballer. Selles only played for his University. There's a world of difference.

Think you might have attached that reply to the wrong message, mate. I never mentioned Selles.

That said, I'm sure Wenger, Mourinho, Sacci and Sarri would all dispute the need to play at a decent professional level being required to make a great manager?

Same as we did with Hecky, I’d rather that than pontificate for 3 weeks over a replacement and miss the summer window.

They obviously sacked Wilder because they had a replacement lined up, not in spite of having one. The best way to ensure the club maximises the pre season.

But does being a pro footballer give you the ability to switch tactics if the game isn't going to your pre-match strategy?
Would we be better with Wayne Rooney as the new man in charge?

I think too many people are stuck in the past, remembering McCabe & the Prince as owners, with a manager who blew up once & then, in my opinion, was going in the same direction again, being unable to go for it / being ultimately too negative (unless it was opposition players or manager/s !). None of us know how things will turn out under the new owners. But I believe they are not in it to throw money away, that is not how they have made / make their money. They deserve a fair crack before any opposition to their plans / ideas.
I also believe, too many are being blindsided by AI. This may be a tool they want to use, but common sense dictates that they are not going to throw all their eggs / money into this one basket if they want quick success. I expect more traditional transfers to be made along side this method.

Classless from wilder walking out on his first tenure...
Im a wilder fan but I can't get get away from the way he walked out on us .

Go and support Wilders next team if it bothers you so much, he might go on to manage Hallam

You're still crying! If Wilder does it for you that much write to him or ask him out on a date. Stop bothering me with your fetish. You're like a schoolboy bullying a schoolgirl you fancy :

Give it a rest. Considering that, as you say, we all knew what was coming, why does it matter that the announcement for Selles came so soon afterwards?

Wilder has form for doing the exact same thing to Hecky before him, and Warnock has made suggestions that Wilder did the same at Middlesbrough when he got that job. But I guess it's one rule for Wilder, and one rule for the rest eh?

Up to when Covid halted our tilt at the PL (arguably a little before that, but I'm not splitting hairs here), Wilder was an immaculate manager. The best I've ever seen for United. But since then, he's been a shadow of his former self.

We slumped to relegation under him, after he was allowed to make some poor signings for big money, and then he threw toys out of the pram when the Prince refused to give him more (for very good reason). He snaked the job from Hecky, did no better in the Premier League, and then failed to get us promoted back there. You can argue about the record points tally all you want, but when we haven't gotten promotion from it, it's irrelevant. I'd much rather be in Sunderland's shoes right now, having earned far less points but having won at Wembley.

There's zero need to delay announcing our replacement, unless you feel like a spell of mourning is required. In which case, I'd be concerned that you idolise Wilder a little too much.

Leaving party on london road dont be silly where did i say anything about celebrating been round football long enough to know this happen sacking a manager and we all get behind the new man , just think annouced 45 mins after been told sacked to quick old school . Obvisiously in he minority just my view and gave to accept this is football

Too many Wilder fans on this forum and not enough Sheffield United fans, pathetic set of cry babies.
Im a Sheff utd fan first and formost no one bigger than the club. Not crying over wilder going , will get behind selles like i have every other manager. Just my opinion i dont.like the way modern football handles these thing . By my post know in the minority but will stand by what i think on how sackings are handled these days , we crack on go again UTB 🔴⚪⚫⚔️

If he's left by mutual agreement, then clearly he was told he was leaving several days ago and they have been negotiating the payoff. The news may have come to fans (officially at least) out of the blue, but Wilder already knew.
Wilder also released his own statement so clearly part of an agreed communication plan, no issue with it at all.

I can't believe it, I mean they announced a new manager after getting rid of the old one, those crazy bastard yanks with no sense of how things are supposed to work

Wilder will have known his fate long before the announcement. Dont worry so much Wilder won't be losing too much sleep. He'll be getting some needed rest, try his hand again at punditry (or punditreh) and I'm sure he'll be nicely compensated.
