Saw this earliar and i know some don't have Twitter so thought i would pass on...

A quick info, some fans are asking about international players.most players suggested last season have been declined by the coaching staff.
3 players didn't want to join us, 1 player couldn't join us because of the working permit procedures. League 1 is a very local league, most managers prefer to work with English, Scottish and Irish players. Fyi dear Blades.
Premier League and League 1 has the exact same rules for signing foreign players. They have to have a certain number of national matches under their belts. Even though this rule hurt us on some occasions I respect it because it protects the level of English football.
The FA only want national team quality players coming to England.

Easy! If they're young then sign them as youth development players and fast track through to 1st team.

You'd still need a work permit even if it was a youth player.

I've always thought we should try and exploit the foreign market more and there isn't much reason for not exploring regions in the EU where work permits aren't needed. Places like Scandinavia and Holland would be good places to start, as they are nearby and most players from those countries have a similar mentality and mindset to the UK. Just about all of them speak English too.

Thanks for this. He comes across as a decent bloke but his remit was never going to work for the reasons stated. This was obvious from the outset, so what is he doing? I know he's not getting paid, just curious what he brings.

(I don't want this to sound anti.)

I'd like to know too, he's a very passionate guy and from what I've read on Twitter, managed to get loads of Fenerbache fans 'supporting' us too, which is great.

He has definately been tasked with a role within the club

Is it something to do with overseas relationship development? Raising profile and business opportunities?

Can't remember tbh, but thought it was something along those lines

Speaking of which, this déjàvu-tastic news seems to have gone unnoticed amongst the Murphy sale on Friday...

Sheffield United’s first team squad could be set for a return to China after Bramall Lane’s hierarchy signed a co-operation agreement with civic leaders in Urumqi, writes James Shield.

The relationship between Bramall Lane and the capital of Xinjiang province, described as the most landlocked city in the world, was cemented when players from the Redtooth Academy visited the region last month.

The tour included a fixture against a local first division team which drew a 15,000 crowd.

United director Simon McCabe, who travelled with the squad, said: “The visit was an undoubted success.

“We were able to spread the word about the Blades in terms of our heritage, our facilities and the potential of the club on and off the pitch.

“We were very well received wherever we went and I believe there will be real long term benefits for all concerned.

“There is a strong chance that the club will return to the region of China, including the possibility of the first team.”

United prepared for the 2005/6 Championship season, which saw them gain promotion to the Premier League, in China.

Representatives from the The Hualing Group of Urumqi, who helped arrange United’s most recent trip to the People’s Republic, have been present at Bramall Lane this week.

Kevin McCabe, United’s co-owner, said: “The club enjoys a strong tradition of developing footballing and commercial relationships on an international basis.

“Through the connections with my business group, Scarborough Group International, this provides a further opportunity for the club.

“I would personally like to thank Mr Mi from The Hualing Group and his colleagues who have made the tour possible. Hopefully this will be the first of many trips to the region and the club will see commercial benefits.”

Nick Cox, United’s academy manager, said: “This was a terrific trip for the lads to gain new experiences as their careers develop with us. Playing in front of 15,000 fans was a fantastic experience for the squad when they faced Xinjiang Snow Leopards.”

How dare you question this assignment. It's brought shitloads into the club!

I expect 'the knives have done the talking' or summat.

What was the financial idea of chengdu blades it confuses me to this day what exactly McCabe was thinking

Scarborough had been in China for some time. Looking for commercial opportunities using our name.
And if course to set off any Chengdu losses against the tax we'd paid on the trading losses made over the years. Clearly worked as we've paid less tax than Goldman Sachs over the last few years.

Let Wednesday sign all the players with extravagant names

I quite agree and am really pleased we have such good old fashioned South Yorkshire names on our roll as De Girolamo, Calvert-Lewin, Otis Khan, Connor Dimaio, Harrison Magahey, Emmanuel Adebowale, O'Shaye Giraud Hutchinson, and Cuvelier as I have problems saying complicated foreign names :p

I know what you mean though :D

See here. The picture of the prince.

Does this dress wear look like the dress of a rich man? Thats a very serious question here.

In my defense most of the lads you've mentioned are British, some from sheffield, and you don't get a more Yorkshire name than Khan any more.:)

I believe the last time we went to China was also the last time we got promoted?

Yes both clubs got promoted then we both got relegated and they got done for match fixing.

It all ended so well for both us and Chengdu Blades now know as Chengdu Tiancheng FC.

I've seen them - they lost 3-0, with some highly questionable refereeing decisions. One couldn't help but sit there wondering if the match fixing issue was still prevalent.

Not quite as sharp as he may have thought!!
