Scunnys next 4 games

If you read the Bolton forums they aren't playing that well and have just scraped 2 wins against 2 average teams. Even the Bolton fans admit they could have lost both.

We are the most in form team in the division and if we keep up our standards will win the league.

The daft thing is that we are all hoping that Scunny slip up against Bradford and Bolton yet it wouldn't do us any harm at all if they beat both of them, provided we keep winning. We could then have clear water between us in 2nd and them in 3rd and 4th.

As said above Bolton in particular could be far more of a threat over the full season as they will have more resources to strengthen in January and more depth overall. Bradford have slipped up a couple of times recently and are probably the most likely to fall away from the top 4.

Not that it seems to make much difference, aren't Bolton still under a transfer embargo for breaking the financial fair play rules and still in debt to the region of 130 million.

I thought that ended in the summer mate but could be wrong. I seem to recall outrage on here when they signed Mark Beevers the day after it finished?

I think it still applies they only signed beavers because he was out of contract, they are allowed if it doesn't involve paying a fee, I could be wrong but from what I have read it still applies.

Fair enough, sounds about right.

You can try all the permutations you want but imho the league will only be start to get serious with 10 matches to go. Any top half of the league side can come with a run and it could be that the teams around the top now could be half way down the league by then. Not played 20 matches yet, 27 to go . Lets revive this thread in March.

The important thing is that instead of being "in and around the pack" and hoping for a miracle in the JTW, we're actually one of the teams setting the pace and standing out. I've got sick of managers pretending that because some teams occasionally start poorly and make a late push that it's therefore some kind of smart plan.

The only table that matters is after the 46th game of the season, that and our dining table when the Mrs has cooked Sunday dinner :)

What's the betting the Football Gods allow Robinson to qualify them for the playoffs by 'one point' and then they deny us in the play offs?

Don't worry about the " football gods", there is only one & he's our manager!

They don't concede many and unless that changes they'll be challenging. A few injuries could sort them out given their financial state.

Tend to agree that Bolton will be the ones to watch over the long haul. That defence of theirs is fookin solid and if they can start scoring more goals they would be formidable.

Ideally I would like to see Scunny beat Bolton, draw with Bradford and lose to Rochdale and Millwall. This scenario would prevent them pulling any further ahead whilst also hurting Bolton and keeping Bradford down the pecking order.

Of course we have to take maximum points or thereabouts to really capitalise but I can really see us doing it if we can start being more clinical.

Away at Rochdale, Bradford and Bolton with one home game against Millwall

Win the game in hand and it's time to get rrrrrrrighht up their arse in time for January

UTB
Update 28th November - so they have to play the teams currently in 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th - good luck with that!!!

Although I said earlier that Bolton haven't been playing well and have been lucky in recent matches.
(Phil Parkinson is like Adkins/ Clough. They go 1-0 up then sit back trying to hold on to the lead).

Well, some Bolton fans are saying "we've been poor during several matches this season and we're 2nd" Imagine when we click and actually start to play well".

They do say it's the sign of a good team when performances aren't good but they still pick up 3 pnts.

All the teams at the top with have tough runs, drop points against poor sides and suffer from injuries to key players. Its only November. Pretty sure Wigan weren't even in the play off places at this point last season. Just a few months ago we were below Port Vale and Bury

New rules for a new age. Scunthorpe have yet to falter so they are 'nailed on' champs with nearly 30 games to go. If we're not top in two weeks' time they're out of reach and we face a relegation battle. Nothing can alter in the next 5 months.

There's Panic on the streets of Carbrook, Darnall, Deepcar, Grenoside...

Unless it alters it doesn't last. Over a season performances dictate results dictate position.

Yeh I agree.

There's been a common theme.

Most opposition fans after playing Bolton usually say "it was a close match and anyone could have won"
"They have a solid defence but don't look that good to say they're near the top" etc.

Based on performances Scunthorpe and Bradford have been better than Bolton so far.

I haven't seen enough to say, mate. History is pretty conclusive, though, that all of them (and us) will have a bad patch or two. It will be fascinating to see how it unfolds and the speculation on here is interesting. No need, though, to set artificial targets and situations as to when we must go top and which matches Scunthorpe might lose. The one constant about football is its capacity to surprise.

[Actually I don't believe that last sentence, but it sounded quite profound...]
