Sander berge

The people who slag Berge off generally know nothing about football and are the ones who sit at the back of the KOP and shout at Egan because he didn’t gerrrrritttttt forward after 2 seconds

He was quality today didn’t lose the ball once or give it away unlike Norwood who did after 1 minute which led to there penalty appeal ( I think)

He is far far far better than Norwood but Norwood can play a 20 yard pass fizzed across the ground even though it’s just a simple ball and that isn’t saying Norwood is poor because he isn’t he is very good

If he plays in the QB role like today then he won’t go forward because he can’t it isn’t his job to do so if he is playing there his job is to get the ball and play it sideways to the wings and back up all the attacks which he does

Not to forget the lad hasn’t had a run of games in 12 months since he tore his hamstring of his leg

If people slag him off or don’t appreciate him then we don’t deserve decent players and should just play Basham there

Ah the old ‘you know nothing about football if your opinion is different to mine’. Always nice to see the classics trotted out.

Where did you do your UEFA coaching badges?

Did them at St. George’s park

Such a shame for a huge unit to be so poor in the air, I don’t see him as a sitting QB like Norwood either, thought he was better in a driving role at the start of the season. However, I’d prefer to keep Hourihane and Norwood as the 2 midfielders with MGW and Ndiaye behind a striker.
agree with you on the formation playing 2 out and out strikers one useless anyway doesnt work for us 2 in behind billy is the tactic that has brought us most success and in any case the sharp mcburnie combo has never worked for me think hecky for once got it wrong today although know with all these games he has to rotate the squad

You really are a comedy genius fella. 😂

I take it this is an act?

Berge is an excellent player but his best portion is number 8. Today was a good example, as a defensive midfielder he did okay but he is no Norwood, he keeps his passes short and safe. When he went forward second half he nearly scored twice and put in two excellent crosses.

I have a 25m backstroke badge and a cycling proficiency badge....and that entitles.me to say Berge is a consistent 4/5 out of 10, doesn't dominate in the air, doesn't impose himself on the game and doesn't dictate the flow of a game

Norwood gave the ball away with his first pass of the game which led to there stonewall penalty appeal 🤷‍♂️

Berge has nearly all the attributes to be a top player, sadly the one attribute he doesn't have is aggression, which will stop him being a top player in this country. Someone on the continent will get a bargain with him at some point, but he's just not suited to the English game. He was such a strange signing, as he was exactly what we didn't need at the time anyway. I'd have loaned him out in January in the hope of getting his value up (and then signed a ball winning midfielder on loan). I can see why some fans like him though, as he does show flashes of his ability, albeit nowhere near enough to be a starter or justify his price tag.

Stop apologising for him, he is not good enough/ not suited to this club league. Hence why we were able to buy him and he did not end up at a big club. No doubt he is skillfully, but not in our best 3 for foot control, or best 20 for heading, best 10 for tackling.

It's quite clear that he is far too pedestrian to play Norwood's role and can't keep the tempo up in the same way. He also isn't skilful or quick enough to play further forward and do what N'Diaye/Gibbs-White do.

That leaves Fleck/Hourihane's position. I wouldn't be adverse to him playing there, but the other two are left footed so make the side more balanced.

It's hard to see how he fits in I'm afraid. At the moment he's a fringe player.

I SO want(ed?) this kid to be our talisman but virtually all hope of that has dissipated now. He is SO pedestrian, takes way too many touches and provides nothing incisive of creative. Plus way too many times he was caught ball-watching when supposed to be defending.

Seems like an amazing kid/personality and may go on to be a success at another club/system/league but I just don’t see it working out for him here (in terms of escalating us as a team or him as an individual)

Thought we noticed a real difference as soon as Norwood came on.

Bloody hell Sander, I’m on your side but hurry the fuck up and move the ball quicker!!!
His passing today was superb. Each one where it should be when going forward, in front of the attacking player.

What no certicates to qualify for understanding talent ?

I've been very critical of him recently but I thought he had a decent game today. Passed the ball pretty well, moved us up the pitch, helped set the tempo. Created a pretty good opportunity for Fleck near the end. Made one important defensive header that I can remember.
I also thought he had decent game today, particularly 2nd half.
He's definitely better in a more advanced role, rather than playing Norwood's position

He’s a good player but his style is so introverted, he’s very, very, risk averse, he looks to play the simple safe option, he only uses his excellent balance, close ball control and body size, when he’s forced into it by the opposition leaving him no alternative.

In my opinion he needs to have more self confidence and carry the ball more often, show some self belief, create a bit of havoc in their half and exploit the gaps. Unless he starts to show a bit of self assurance and aggression, he’ll never achieve the heights that he is clearly capable of, which would be such a waste. He could do with a bit of TC’s arrogance tbh

Don’t think he was helped with the poor performance of Fleck and MGW today. Fleck set the tone early on when he missed a tackle against their right back/wing back and then couldn’t be arsed to track him back.

Berge was steady if unspectacular, still looks like he should ghost past people and doesn’t but his passing was good.

It’s easy to say move the ball quicker but there was little movement in front him or runs being made. A lot of that was down to the sheer numbers Huddersfield had behind the ball and they’re organisation

For me Berge can’t play in a 2 in our team. I actually think he’d suit a better team more than us as he’d get more time on the ball

Possibly more cowardly to call someone cowardly under guise of a pseudonym… 😂
I mean cowardly in a football context…as in he always takes the easy “safe” option rather than the more difficult one that might open up a defence. The ball against Brum shows he capable of it.

And by the way, you’ve just implied that I’m a coward whilst using a pseudonym…unless Pittsburg is the name given on your birth certificate 😉 touché

I thought Berge was excellent today after Norwood came on.

Before that he looked like a fish out of water.

That's a management issue, not a player issue

The distribution in midfield like this was fine, my problem was he then disappeared altogether after the pass was made forward most of th etime. Compare this to pre-season 20/21 when he was racing forward and doing crosses, jinky type Basham runs (quoting Basham !) and he is not even the same player. He doesnt seem to actually get in the box or join the attack. Probably as he is more a defensive midfielder ? Without the defensive bit ? I dont know there is just something missing.

Give this lad a run of games in the team and he would show he’s a decent footballer. I am not sure what anyone really wants from him. When we signed him he came with a reputation of being half decent with his feet and could pick a pass. I didn’t hear he was a box to box man, no reports of lung busting late runs in to the box smashing home a winner or even being the bite in midfield. He’s showing glimpses of the ability that attracted us to him.

Berge did alright today imo

Held things together in the middle. Yes, plays it safe but still did well
He even got a decent shot off 😮🙂

100%, nailed it. Sharps the best finisher at the club and with 2 number 10’s it works perfectly. Also we look better defensively with Ndiaye’s work rate dropping back.
