We need to talk about Sydie Peck

Don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, has his agent said you’ve got A,B and C going to come in and offer you a deal… for the first time he potentially could be offered some proper money and prem football… to me it screamed of his head wasn’t there
He's not premier quality mate.

Is he doing a Brownie? You know after his amazing season in the double cup run year. We would not sell him in the summer so he just went through the motions until Christmas and then had about 10 years in the Prem.

If Peck ever has a season half as good as Brown in 2002-03 I'll eat a wheelbarrow.

The Brown at us in 2003 wasn’t the same who fucked about at Fulham and Portsmouth.

Apparantly he’s worth 20m and a future England regular according to some🤦‍♂️

I'll join yer, he was by far and away the best midfielder since TC....16 goals from midfield in one season ......unheard in this current set up....a fantastic all round player....

I honestly think selling Peck this summer would have been the ideal scenario because we’d have a bit more money to sign Souttar / some creativity and we’d remove his regular inconsistency from the team. Because of his inconsistency, Peck isn’t good enough to build a team around as yet but Wilder persists on doing this. If Peck had been sold Wilder would have no choice but to pivot. It would also pave the way for more Phillips in the team.

Brown was absolutely unplayable that year. Used to run through teams for fun, could finish from distance - proper old school attacking mid.

Only player I've seen on his level were Evans the season he got sent down (albeit at a lower level) and Ndiaye.

I don't think he enjoys playing alongside Rothwell.
Rothwell today gave a non performance so we were effectively playing with 10 men. You don't make mistakes if you don't have the ball. I recall one 10 yard sideways pass.
He seemed to be marking the referee and even allowed him a touch in the second half.
He was always out of position when defending and never supported the attack.
At least Peck showed for the ball, never hid but his touch and passing were poor. He improved after Riedewald came on as did the whole team. Wilder says Rothwell has had achieved a lot in his career but that is in the past, but I'm sure he'll start the next match.
Like a year ago under Selles, Peck's poor form isn't helped by expecting him to do the work of 2 men.

The bigger issue is playing 2 in central mid when the opposition plays 3 and how poor the others in centre mid are when supposedly there to help

I still think peck is good player, but admittedly he’s looked off it so far this season, I hope the lads okay.

He’s a blade and he’s bugger on the pitch for the opposition at times, but he’s just not got that sydie spark, and he’s making far too many unforced errors, I’ll also add O’Hare to that list, despite his goal, he was poor in possession. The whole team looked lost today.

I can't defend Peck. I think a lot of Blades have held him shoulder high because he seems to be better than he actually is, and is in fact a pretty bang average footballer, if that, in a team that is badly fractured anyway. He offers nothing to fix that, if anything he compounds the problem.

To be that level of midfielder you need to be a bit of a swiss army knife, and Peck isn't anywhere near that. He isn't quick enough to go through the gears, has a signature move of outside-turning himself back to his own starting point and to me is at best just Norwood without the long balls, or Mark Patterson on full blast. His positional play is ... frankly appalling. He can't seem to keep track of play and is easily by-passed. His passing is dreadful. And as seen in the final moments today his ball skills are simply crap. He had every chance to kill that ball and turn and get it back in the mixer but he Montgomeryed it off his shins and it went out of play. His crossing from set pieces also is disappointingly sub-par.

I think Wilder needs to make his mark, be brave and drop Peck now. Give the three man midfield a chance to develop with Arblaster, Philips, Riedewald and Rothwell. Nothing happens when he is in there and the team suffers badly.

We must remember that we have bypassed midfield so far this season, so no surprise they all look shit.

For me Rienweld defensive midfield. Peck box to box and ohare wherever he wants, with out lets on both wings required.

The two leeds boys can come on when the others are tired and blaster when he has remembered how to tackle.

The only problem with this is I dont think we have the options down the wings and we our defence is missing a commanding lump.

It is going to be a long season and if we lose 12 points we will go down.

Harsh, but a fair observation.

peck is overated by lots of our fans and nowhere near premier league class his constant turns and running in to opposition midfielders is infuriating
