Good to see us playing hardball for once. Berge is halfway through his 4.5 year contract so we shouldn't be worried about losing him for peanuts at the end of this season either.....keep digging your heels in United and get as much as we can.
End of this season he will have a year left. Therefore he won't be worth half as much as he is now.

Interesting they Everton are about to pay 33m+ for Onana. I think I mentioned earlier in a Berge thread how unique he is. In terms of being a midfielder under 25 and 6'5", the only two who meet this criteria are Berge and Onana. That's how difficult it is to replace him with a player of his attributes.

I find it crackers that they’d pay £33 million for him but not 20/25 for berge who is proven in English football

I get the point you're making FB but I'd question whether Berge is indeed proven in English football. He didn't show much when playing in he Prem has suffered a fairly serious injury and only showed quality in patches last season.

I can understand why clubs are reluctant to offer anywhere near what Utd are seeking for him.

That all said, I also see Onana as a (high priced) risk for Everton.

He was average for a settling in period when we signed him I remember stood in the away end at sellhurst thinking why have we signed him when we have JL7

However once he settled in he has looked every bit a rolly royce IMO in a very poor side in the prem then great in the champ IMO he is much better than MGW

He has been unfortunate with injuries same could be said for bogle/mcburnie/brewster/mousset theres £100 million of injured players in there

Unless a prem team comes in for him and pays £25 mill the it doesn't make any sense to sell or for berge to leave

Ideal scenario for both he smashes it we go up and scores 15+ then he has every team chasing after him in the prem outside the top 6 and we are in the prem

Why on earth would he go back to Belgium it would really be a mind boggler if he did that

"IMO he is much better than MGW "
Seriously you never fail to amaze.

We will see how MGW gets on in the premier league no doubt he is a top player I just think Berge is better

Plenty of players can smash it up in the championship and struggle in the prem

The amount of times MGW lost the ball doing fancy flicks and no look passes , do that in the prem and its a goal

For me they are completely different players. MGW one of the best I’ve seen for us. end product was off the charts. So I’ll allow him one or two things that don’t come off. He also gave absolutely everything, every game he went at it 100% and was the opposite of a luxury player.

berge could be incredible but you get the feeling he’s only scratching the surface of his talent. We haven’t seen it enough but he could take literally any game at this level and bend it to his will. We just haven’t seen it consistently enough.

Playing where he is now he’s get 10-15 goals I reckon.

Different players altogether

They are different players 100%

I would say flair players like MGW find it much much harder to do well in the prem , For wolves i think MGW will struggle a team who want to keep clean sheets IMO over score goals

He isnt a luxury player but for a team like wolves he may become a luxury player if he doesnt hit the ground running IMO

There seems to be a lot of 'IF' in comments about Berge. If he scores X goals, if we get promoted, if he plays good and after all the IFs he will be more valuable or worth the valuations.

Many times mentioned MGW showed what he was capable the whole season. We nor clubs monitoring Berge haven't seen same with him and that's why we can keep him fir now.

Situation might change when Berges 'IF's turn to 'IS's.

He "IS" if you watch the last 3/4 months of the season

Like many players we have Injuries have ruined them

MGW failed at swansea because he got injured during his loan

Berge will come very close to MGWs numbers over a full season if he gets the chance, playing his current position

I agree with fallowfield that the MGW type is more likely to struggle in the PL. I know its a rule on here to virtually fellate him at every opportunity but there is a lot of sloppiness in his game that if not cut out may not be tolerated at PL level

He is safe for now, the Blades way will be to sell him and Illy in January when we are top of the league...
Remind me who we sold last January? Or the January before? These “it’s the Blades way” posts are so idiotic, I don’t think people actually think about what they are posting.

The Prince hasn't sold a single player of note when he's been in sole control.

We sold Brooks but that was still during the unholy alliance between HRH and McCabe.

Only player we've sold has been Ramsdale and he forced the move. Even then we held out and can't be far off getting the whole 30m given he's the undisputed no 1 there now. What's more, Wes has been a mature, calming influence the vast majority of the time, something I can't say for Ramsdale from August to Christmas.

He's been an excellent owner. We've recruited significantly well this summer - inventive opportunistic signings from afar in Ahmedhodžić, two young players from the Champions, the best opposition player to play against us last season and an experienced international defender.

He's given us every chance to give it a right go.

We (over)value Berge the level other clubs are not willing to match by what Berge has delivered recently. If he has solid and good games we might get forcing offers in January, but if there's any inconsistency we keep him the whole season.

They can offer him £500,000 a week if they like. Gu mental.

But if the fee isn't right for us it means absolutely piss all. The club isn't going to say "Hm...they're offering Sander a great wage, I suppose we'd better let him go". It doesn't work like that.

I would like to have seen more permanent signings brought in. We have a lot of players out of contract next Summer and if we haven't been promoted then we might find ourselves in a spot of bother.

Agree though, I think he's been good for us in terms of not being bullied into sales.

How much is a 100 grand a week midfielder of his age worth these days? 40 mil?

It's a good point and one I'd be making if I was our negotiator. They've clearly got the money from player sales and seem to want to low ball us and give the money all to Sander over the term of his contract.
They can't be offering us £12.5m on the one hand and Berge £100k a week on the other.
