Berge leaving on the last day of the window is the most likeliest scenario imo.
Yeah, but he came to England for PL football.I'm sure if you give a footballer the option of challenging for silverware in Belgium or Portugal and playing in the Champions League or playing for Birmingham or Swansea, I can guess which one they choose.
Look at Lunny. You can mock the Scottish league but he's achieved more than any of our players are likely to achieve.
Yes, obviously a Championship club has a much higher profile than a Belgium/Portuguese/French team playing in the Champion's League.Yeah, but he came to England for PL football.
Hes in England now playing great. What's the easier stepping stone to the PL, a high end Championship club that could get promoted, and if they don't he'll get tapped up by a Leicester, Everton etc...
Or a Champions League club in Belgium that have just paid ~£20m for you and don't need to sell
His ambition is PL.
The championship is only below his level of capability. It isn’t below the level he’s delivered. This season will be brilliant for his development if he plays 40 games and does well, which he clearly would
I don't think he yet has the right to consider the championship as beneath him for development purposes because he hasn't dominated at this level yet
So he may need to swallow his pride and keep delivering like against Millwall and the back end of last seasonThe championship is only below his level of capability. It isn’t below the level he’s delivered.
We’ve all been saying in our Blades group that unless a top team comes in for him he should stay until January. If we’re doing really well, stay out and if we’re not, he goes.So he may need to swallow his pride and keep delivering like against Millwall and the back end of last season
Then in 5 months time he could find himself on his way back to the PL with us
He seemed to have his career mapped out, with high ambition and self belief. Brugge would make zero sense unless he's had a major rethinkWe’ve all been saying in our Blades group that unless a top team comes in for him he should stay until January. If we’re doing really well, stay out and if we’re not, he goes.
And a top team isn’t coming in for him.
Anyone who thinks this Club Bruges story is anything other than his agent touting his name around is mad. Why on earth would he sign for them?
They can't afford him .Play for a Championship side in England and live in Sheffield in Brexit Britain
or
Play for the Belgium champions and live in Bruges. Added extra of CL football and CB have played Man C, PSG, RB Leipzig, both Madrids, Dortmund in the last few years. Watched by millions around the world and live in the EU.

You could say - play in front of 28,000 fans every other week, if season is good potential to play at Anfield, Old Trafford, the Emirates etc every season. Or get knocked out in Europe at the first hurdle and then play in a league that is so badly organised that if you are top after 34 matches you still aren’t Champions and if you get relegated you have the ignominy of playing against B teams.
Having increased my interest in this area because of our relationship with Beerschot, the Belgium League could be so much better, but it isn’t and they’ve just made 1B so much worse with the addition of B teams rather than proper clubs. Imagine having Man City B in the Championship
The Champions League is so overrated. It’s full of mismatches where most teams are happy just to make up numbers. Is this really what Sander wants to resign himself to? It was better when it was just the team that finished first. The fact you can have a team from Belgium who didn’t even top their own league being in there as Champion and the competition as a whole can be won by a team that finishes only 4th in their own country denigrates it as a legitimate European Champion determiner.
Club Brugge haven’t qualified for the CL knock out stages this century and then some.
Last year Club Brugge lost 4/6 group games and finished last though it was a hard group, granted.
Year before won 2, drew 2 lost 2, then immediately knocked out of the Europa League by Dynamo Kyiv.
Year before dropped into Europa League to be immediately knocked out 6-1 on aggregate by a poor Man U side.
Year before dropped into Europa League to be immediately knocked out by RB Salzburg 5-2.
Year before had a Champions League qualifier against Istanbul Basaksehir which they lost and then their second chance at Europa League vs AEK 3-0 on aggregate.
Year before was in a group with Leicester, Porto and Copenhagen. Lost all 6.
So, unless you’re into collecting air miles as you get your arses handed to you, then there are vast limitations for teams in the Belgium League.
It isn’t their fault. Nothing against Belgium, it’s a relatively small country. They just don’t have the money to compete. But for that very reason, if he’s to fulfil his promise, if and when Sander moves, it should be to a team that can compete.
That is the definition of a straw man argument! You mean this little Belgium?

I think you're missing my point.Yes, obviously a Championship club has a much higher profile than a Belgium/Portuguese/French team playing in the Champion's League.
EPL clubs never sign from those kind of teams. Like Sheffield United signing a Norwegian international from the Belgium league.
this will be the 3rd season he will have wasted in his development, because we've become a very high step.
I think you're missing my point.
If his ambition is Premier League. It would be easier to get there in January staying here, than if he signed for a Champions League club now.
short term pain, long term gain.
How many of those players, play in Belgium? You mean this little Belgium?

Well done!!! You've managed to slag off our own club, city and country there.....and lauded Belgium as the place to be!!! Is that you Ursula???Play for a Championship side in England and live in Sheffield in Brexit Britain

I’m talking about their domestic league. I’m not for one minute suggesting Belgium cannot produce good players.
I’m suggesting their clubs cannot compete at the highest level.
My point was about Belgium as a footballing nation. It's internal league quality is not close to ours, but take Belgian and all other none English players out of ours and there wouldn't be a huge gap.
Neither would ours without Belgian and other overseas players.
If my Auntie had a cock, she'd be my Uncle.
The players are in England for a reason, because it's one of the best leagues in the World. They flea Belgium for the same reason.
This is also why you find a lot of random African and South American's playing in Belgium and Holland etc. it's a stepping stone to the better leagues.... and easier to get a work permit.
Like the UK, Norwegians voted not to be in the EU.Play for a Championship side in England and live in Sheffield in Brexit Britain

You've pretty much summed it up. There's rumoured to be a release clause of somewhere around €40m and last summer it was made clear Berge would only be sold if that was met. He'd spent the second half of 20/21 injured so that was always unlikely.Hey guys,
I'm a Genkfan that registered here when Sander left us to Sheffield. On our messageboard there's some panicking Sander might move to one of our rivals Bruges. Others (like me) say it isn't realistic. Sander Berge has been playing well, has better options than Bruges and I can't imagine SU not at least wanting to recover the money they spend on him.
What's the opinion here? I can see him leave SU, but not to Bruges. But am I right?
We would very much like to keep him but I think we accept that if our valuation on him is met then we won’t stand in his way it depends if Bruges can afford him.Hey guys,
