If he stands on the keeper it makes life hard for them to just catch the ball straight from the kick.

That's what I'd be telling him to do - stand on the keeper and make it difficult for him. Brentfords 2nd the other night was all down to someone standing on the keeper for the long throw.

i think hes played very carefully in both games so far possibly so not to get injured and i still think both berge and rammy will have gone before the end of august

If he’s off the pace a little he’s never going to be close to being able to put a tackle in without risking a card. You’re always just that little bit out of the game….one of the reasons I see Norwood and more so Fleck struggling.
Fleck btw is always slow to get going after time off, be it new season or injury….he will be back to normal if he gets 10 competitive games

The Sander Berge paradox - best player in the team, but given the money we’d raise from his sale and the different way we could play, we might actually be better without him.

And if we don’t sell him (I would), when is he going to actually demonstrate that he’s “the best player in the team”?

We’ve gone in one direction ever since he signed. The midfield was immediately poorer after he arrived, now it’s a different excuse every other week as to why he doesn’t actually deliver anything.

Indeed Alco. I am much maligned for criticising Berge but whilst he has the talent, he does very little with it.

Morrison isn’t a great comparison—he’s at something like his twelfth club in eleven years and he’s failed at ten of them. Berge is at his fourth club and has been a success at three. I’d be confident guessing that it’s years since Ravel influenced a game the way Berge did our game against Birmingham. For me, that game confirmed Berge has the tools to be a very good player indeed. The game against Swansea confirmed he’s a long way from having the sort of mentality to do it consistently.

In Berge's defence, I think anyone would've struggled in that midfield. A midfield two supported by a ludicrous number of strikers was always going to get over run. After a disastrous first 15 minutes he steadied into a slightly better performance. By the second half he looked better, he actually created the only really good chance of the game.

Personally I've seen enough of Berge to see there's a quality player in there. Unlike Brewster, that isn't blind faith and reputation.

There’s simply no way on earth anyone is paying £35m for Berge, let alone an increasing value.

We need to start talking about the realistic valuations of our players, and what’s needed too be done to make us conpetitive

but I’d argue about ‘likely’ to increase.

ramsdale has done well but we are struggling to get what we paid back for him. Same with berge, no one is coming in with a bid for substantially more than we paid.

It might change but would we get even 50% of what we paid for mcburnie or Brewster back atm?

every signing is a essentially a gamble, especially if the focus is on going to be young English talent who attract a HUGE premium. I’d focus on expanding our scoring infrastructure and analytics departments. Focus on young foreign talent more, if their value is substantially cheaper you can afford to take more bites at the Apple

Even if you think Berge is only worth £15m that still makes him our best midfielder by a country mile. We wouldn’t be lucky to get £15m at all. We’d either be lucky to keep him, or lucky to £35m+.
