i think we would sell for slightly less but yes your right hold on for the full 35m and if we are selling ramsdale it gives us a bit of leeway to hold out for the full 35m
Think if rammers goes we're set to hold on until the clause is hit. Well done United imo.

The transfer market seems to be kicking into gear now and Spurs are reportedly the latest club to line up a move for Sheffield United midfielder, Sander Berge.

That’s according to French publication Homme Du Match, who report that Spurs have offered around 20m Euros (£17m) for the Norwegian star.

Berge has so far remained in Sheffield but is not short of admirers after United’s relegation last season. Signed for £22m from Genk, the Blades board have remained insistent that Berge will only be sold if his £35m release-clause is met.

However, the Blades are also fully aware of the cost of relegation. The club is said to need to make up a £40m shortfall. Berge, and fellow big-money signing, Aaron Ramsdale, are both on Premier League clubs’ wishlists.

Indeed, conflicting reports today suggest Ramsdale to Arsenal has taken another step forward. Berge is also on the radar of Mikel Arteta. Indeed, the Gunners are also said to have had a £17m bid rejected previously.

Homme add that United remain firm and want at least £25m to consider selling Sander.

If we sell Ramsdale I expect us to hold onto Berge until at least the January window unless his £35m release clause is hit.
we would then review the situation and if in a strong position to get promotion May even turn down any offers until the summer in the hope that we get promotion and his release valuation increases to £45m. Obviously it depends on how he plays between now and then.

Suarez was at Liverpool and Arsenal triggered his release clause but the owners said so what we don’t want to sell, so yes we don’t have to sell but £35 million is a lot of money for a championship club and a player who could play in a higher league for a lot more money as well as a previous club wanting their %

There wasn’t ever a release clause in Luis Suarez’s Liverpool contract.
Arsenal had heard there was one to say if an offer in excess of 40m was made then the player could talk to the club. Hence offering £40m +£1.
The clause didn’t exist. As confirmed by Wenger himself in an interview and it just made Arsenal look like absolute muppets as usual.

if someone makes an offer to meet his release clause the club are powerless to stop the player talking to that club. We cannot say no.

If someone in the top tier of one of Europe’s main divisions meets his release clause he’ll go. He could say no If he really wanted to but why would he. He isn’t a Sheffield lad. He’s an ambitious player who wants to play at the top and he’ll want to ensure his financial security for the rest of his days in the process.

the club would also probably encourage him to go if someone met the release clause. £35 million is a lot of money to us.

I really do hope he stays but people are clutching at straws thinking he’d turn down a move if someone puts up the money.

I do find it amusing that after one good 45 minutes suddenly he's a footballing god.

It strikes me that the role Sander wants to play is that he played during the first half. Deep lying, moving the ball on. occasional longer pass. Odd run forward. When he's played best for us is when he's played further forward, getting to the right by-line. But I'm not sure that's where he wants to play.

Not a criticism of the player or his ability, just what he's likely to bring to our team.

he needs someone more mobile and creative in midfield with him. He can’t get us playing in nice little triangles advancing up the pitch when Norwood and fleck want to stand next to him in a line and hold his hand

norwood came in and did amazingly well for us at a time where we really needed him but it’s time he spent some time on the bench imo. We won’t use his ping as much now and he sure ain’t mobile enough. Wilders system was set up around him being the ‘quarter back’ pinging it to the overloads but we’re not using that system anymore.

flecks just looked miles off it since his injury / lockdown began.

we won’t see the the best of Berge until the rest of the midfield compliment him.

Absolutely agree with all of this.

The Sander Berge paradox - best player in the team, but given the money we’d raise from his sale and the different way we could play, we might actually be better without him.

I don’t think we’re a million miles off though. Say R Vieria comes in and gets himself fit. That’s the athletic mobile ball winner sorted.

he wins the ball. Gives it to Berge.

neither of them will be particularly advanced up the field by this point so Berge either drives forward himself or needs someone wide of him / ahead to start a move.

could McBurnie play up top and allow Didzy to sit in as more of a 10 and play a bit deeper.

that’s a more mobile midfield with some creativity in it as well.

then let’s get jack robinson, Stevens and Burke replaced.

we could try Bogle ahead of Baldock because his delivery is awesome. RND over Stevens and hopefully Davies in over Robinson.

Luke Freeman has to be worth a go in the “10” too surely. Quality player at this level.

Well indeed. For all the talk of a creative, quick and skilful midfielder, we already have one in Freeman. I’m sure he will get his chance.

It makes me laugh that you laugh at things no one has said

Someone may trigger the release clause but surely Berge is not obliged to move

Not obliged, but we lose control once it's triggered. He can then choose to discuss terms, which he can't at the moment.

His set piece delivery the other night was perfect. Made a refreshing change to see a corner actually pass the first man AND nearly result in a goal (lopata)

Agreed ..... Freeman's corners were superb compared to Norwood's (and Fleck's) deliveries which have been pathetic recently.

That sounds all Alex Sabella to me.

If we sell I hope it works out better for us this time

if sander does stay till january at least and we get viera in i can see us reverting to 4231 with viera and berge as the 2

But who would play as the 3 attacking midfielders - we only have Freeman who is he's far from a certain starter / on his way out and the brainless Burke that could do the job? Others e.g. McGoldrick, McBurnie would be square pegs.

I'm also struggling to think of who would lead the line. McBurnie would be the obvious choice but I don't think that's his natural game. It would also mean the other 7/8 strikers wouldn't get a game

i think ideally in time slav will bring the players in that suit his preferred system mcgoldrick and mcburnie would compete for the middle of the 3 with brewster up top imo the 2 wide men as it stands now would be possibly freeman and burke although i think slav will bomb both those 2 out so just a question of if we can bring a couple of loans in to fill these roles
