Samir Carruthers

I would stick in Lundstam to replace Fleck during his suspension. I've been generally disappointed with Carruthers so far, he doesn't produce enough on a consistent basis, and he doesn't seem to fit as well in to the team as much as Lundstram does. So far in Lundstram I have seen a footballer who can seemlessly slot in to the side when required and after a couple of shaky performances he is growing and developing as a footballer. I think Lundstram is going to grow and develop in to an excellent player for us, whilst I think Carruthers is going to be a player who drifts away from the first team picture,

Why? There is no imperative, other than parochial sentimentality to ‘bring Jake back in’ and certainly no need to do anything to artificially “enable” it.

I don't see any need for Jake Wright to come in, especially against Matt Smith up top for QPR.

Unfortunately for him, his needs don’t matter. Only those of Sheffield United do. Lundstram will play and rightly so.

Hmm..I just don't see Lundstram being a natural choice. The main reason he'll start ahead of Samir is that QPR have a tall side. But Carruthers deserves a chance as much as Lundstram does, not that I'm anti-Lundstram by any stretch.

Agreed. Nothing against Samir at all. He’s talented and he entertains. I ❤️ talented players. However, everyone except Tufty is underestimating John Lundstram. He’s a better footballer than many give him credit for. He’s also a leader, having captained Oxford at a very young age. Tufty knows all this. He brought him in for a reason.

Carruthers has got to force his way in when he gets a chance ,he hasn't done this so far
No passengers in this team

I'm not sure Carruthers did himself any favours with his 360 on the edge of the box and weak clearance that lead to Leicester's last goal against us in the Fixed Draw Cup. That kind of thing gives a manager kittens.

Nor am I anti-Samir at all. He’s an entertainer as I’ve said. As to Centre back, if there are changes Richard Stearman will come in, not Jake. We’re moving on. No sentimentality. Personally I think the present three are a formidable unit and will only get better the more they play.

If Samir is not selected to replace Fleck on Tuesday it is slightly worrying from his perspective.I think he is the most natural choice for this game and if he is not given 'the nod' when will he be ?

How can you say certain things with such certainty out of interest? I'm fairly sure at the start of the season you were very determined in the fact that Wright was pretty much done for us... and again, only sentimentality would bring him back into the side.

As it stands, he came in through injury and kept the shirt for some time due to the meritocracy which Wilder has in place. He had an off game and CCV took over. I see no definite reason why Stearman (who I do rate FYI) should be ahead of Wright at this point.

Totally agree, Samir is more flashy and capable of doing something extra special with his quick feet.
But Lundstrum has a more alround game and with developement could become a massive asset.

Its a nice problem to have , and if we cant decide which one of 2 options can fill Flecks role imagine how difficult it is to add new players to this squad that is doing brilliantly
A fact to chew on newcastle were top last year and brought in no new players in January .
Sometimes if it aint broke theres no need to fix it, we can get prem players in the close season

I’d like to see Samir getting some game time. But at the minute with Duffy playing the best football of his career, and the young messi on the scene it’s hard.
If we were at home I’d say Samir over Lundstram but away from home at a team that’s just turned over wolves I’d go with lundstrum

Well its interesting to me that samir hasn't played since he went missing second half, against Leicester. Wheather Lundstrom didn't. Wilder expects his midfielders to do a bit of everything, including tracking back and defenders.

I'd pick Lundstram to start at QPR.

I don't think Carruthers is a replacement for Fleck, to me he's more a flair, run with the ball kind of player. I'd see him as the understudy to Brooks, if he was starting every game.

Could you see Samir tracking the runner and doing the last ditch block / tackle Fleck did for us against Derby for example?

I agree with others in that I can see him moving on, which is a shame as he does have talent.

He said the same things about Brooks last season and was dead against wilder becoming manager

I'd like to see a bit more of Samir but the others are keeping him out - so he has to wait for his chance and take it when it comes. I suspect it will be Lundstrom instead of Samir to replace Fleck.

I always take my opinion from local radio hacks. They know far more about the game than me. You have to in order to present a radio show.

They are professionals and you are an amateur
Wether they know more than you or not their opinion is obviously more valuable as someone pay a them to articulate it

Never see or hear them slagging youngsters off and saying they shouldn't be given a chance

I think the fact it's an away game rules out Samir due to him not being as defensively sound as lundstrum as mentioned previously.

I'd be tempted to go with bash in midfield and wright in the back 3 with brooks coming in for sharp due to the 3 games in 9 days and I just think his pace up front will cause qpr problems as they don't appear to have to most mobile back 3.

Sharp came off after 75 minutes and is our top scorer, why on earth would anyone drop him?

Not saying he should be dropped but I think at this stage of his career he isn't going to be as effective playing 3 games in 9 days.

And brooks and Leon didn't do too badly at s6 when they started together

Brooks works perfectly as an impact sub at this time so I wouldn't want to change that.
I think maybe Donaldson will come in for Sharp or Clarke
I wouldn't want to change Bash, this is his position now and allows us to be flexible.
Stevens could do with a rest and be back for Saturday.

Samir's problem isn't replacing Fleck or Duffy, it's the emergence of Brooke's pushing him down the order. Could see Samir out on loan in January, possibly even moving on.

I agree about Carruthers either leaving or going out on loan. I think we need to improve on him personally. I don't think you will see Brooks play much in the Duffy role though.

I don’t get why people are saying we should play Lundstram instead of someone like Carruthers because he’s more defensive? Let us play to our strengths, which is to play an attacking side that goes at teams from the off, we are less likely to do that with both Lundstram and Coutts in the side imho.

Respect QPR by all means but let’s not upset our rhythm by going too defensive, they beat a very tired Wolves side who we were comprehensively better than, even after their good start against us.

Let’s not worry about QPR, let them worry about the best team in the league currently, us.

There's nothing ' sentimental ' about my wish to see Jake Wright back in defence . It's
simply based on the fact that he's a bloody good centre half, as his track record demonstrates , and that we almost always look more solid and cohesive when he's on the pitch.

Also, I don't see anything ' artificial ' about playing Bash in midfield - he's played there many times for us and usually does a fine job.

Lundstrum is the Coutts, Fleck cover.

Samir is the Duffy cover.

Tufty disagrees. He’s replacing Jake.
