We need at least one scapegoat.

People really need to learn what a scapegoat is, Carruthers isn't one at all. He's been absolutely useless since we've been using him with Brooks missing, that's a pure and simple fact.

He isn't to blame for our poor run as individual defensive errors keep happening when he isn't even playing, but he contributes absolutely nothing to the team when he comes on as a sub, and deserves the criticism he's been getting for his pathetic displays.

Whether he has a future here is up to him, everyone who has been slating him would much prefer it if he wasn't utter shit every time he sets foot on the pitch, but he needs to show more than he has in the limited opportunities he's been getting.

How about a reverse loan deal with a view to buy ........

They get Carruthers on loan, we get Snodgrass on loan and we swap them in the summer .......

Surely their transfer negotiators will go for that ...... o_O

My concern with Carruthers isn't the fact he doesn't impress in small substitute cameo appearances, more he fails almost every time he gets a start including last season.

Posh and Northampton away come to mind where he was frankly gash.

He can't tackle and gives the ball away regularly, whilst often looking like he's off the pace not concentrating fully.

Occasionally he will create an opening by running in straight lines at the opposition defence but all in all he doesn't seem to be a player we can trust to do a job regularly.

And I'm someone who thought he was a good signing at the time.

Agree - I want him to do well, like every player who pulls on Blades shirt, but I haven't seen anything from him to show he's bringing anything to the table.

Anonymous without the ball and with it, inevitably the next player to touch it is an opposition player.

Interesting to see support for the lad on this thread by fans who have not given up on the him.

Maybe he's trying too hard.

Maybe he is one of those players who doesn't know his own limitations, believes he is better than he is and keeps doing things that only go well when he is on top form. Careers have been ruined for many players who don't know their limitations particularly when they are out of form. Get back to basics lad!

If he was to leave it would mean we need 2 new CMs, unless Wilder sees Whiteman as his replacement.

If he was trying hard I could almost forgive him for playing badly.

Couldn't agree more with this.

Not bothered if players misplace passes or lose the ball but a lack of workrate can't be excused.

A few times I've seen him give the ball away and his head goes down and the opposition player runs past him. Wrong attitude. So you've given the ball away either try your hardest to get it back or get back into position defensively to help minimise the impact.

I can't remember the game (Derby or Ipswich maybe), when Duffy did that lung busting tracking back in the second half to stop them getting a breakaway. The thought to do that would never enter Carruthers mind, and thats what I don't like about him.

Regardless of what potential he has or doesn’t, at the moment he’s the boo boys favourite and he’s gonna have to play like Duffy to turn this around..

So long as we get a fee, I’m fine.. no giveaways please.... at the very worst he’s cover..you never know...

Agreed ..... he's spectacularly failed to impress on any of the occasions that he's been on the pitch this season ...... o_O

Can't even do the simple things well and worst of all ....... gives the ball away cheaply and is uninterested in chasing back and rectifying his mistake.

Whiteman cannot possibly be a worse option than Carruthers as a back-up because he can at least tackle .....

Carruthers did score against Fulham however that could be his only contribution of note in his appearances this season

"absolutely useless"
"contributes absolutely nothing"
"pathetic displays"
"utter shit every time he sets foot on the pitch"

I think describing him as 'underwhelming' or 'not quite ready for championship football' would be more appropriate IMO. Not sure why you feel the need to be vitriolic.

The lad undoubtedly has some talent, we have all seen that, and also, CW and AK would not have wasted any time on him if they thought different.

I agree is has not lived up to his potential and has been a weak link when he has played so far this season, the writing was on the wall as early as the Middlesborough game. Duffy has been outstanding, as has Fleck and Coutts (and now Lundstram) , so there is no other option than bench time for him.

If he wants to play on a regular basis, he needs to move on for the sake of his career.

For me, he is (this season), a split second too slow in thought, has had the ball taken from his feet (literally) and a quick shoulder nudge sees him knocked off the ball, he does offer the occasional driving run, but not much end product.

Tally that with the end of last season, Northampton away, and that screamer of a shot that hit the crossbar. He seems to have left his trickery and pace back in League one.

CW and AK will make the final choice and we will all live with that.

Samir has looked a bit like a player who has given up.
Shame, because I was quite hopeful he would be a big player for us this season as he has ability. But the lack of games early on knocked his confidence, and he looks to be on his way.

similar exert from The Star:

"Meanwhile, Charlton Athletic manager Karl Robinson has confirmed he was preparing to try and sign United’s Samir Carruthers on loan before Roland Duchatelet, the Londoners’ owner, refused to sanction any new arrivals after putting the club up for sale."

https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foo...ng-incoming-midfielder-ryan-leonard-1-8944768

Well let’s hope their chairman has a change of heart and let’s karl Robinson complete a deal.
I’m sad about this one because I thought the lad had talent but he’s had a few chances and he not fulfilled his promise. Sorry no room for sentiment . Close the door on your way out Samir.

The sad thing about Samir is that we’ve seen with our own eyes, he’s a very talented player.
He has tricks and flicks but his decision making is often shockingly poor.

Obviously Robinson knows what a top talent he is.
You wouldn’t be surprised that if he plays regularly, his confidence will increase then he’ll be really impressive in league 1.

So send the lad out on loan for 3 months for fitness and game time. Let him see if he can play his way back into the team here with a club that will play football as close to the way we do.
He’s talented and still young enough to get better.

Even if he doesn't go to Charlton, it perhaps alerts other teams to his availability and on the other side, might push Carruthers to try and earn his place in the side.

Get him to Lincoln on loan. Good, solid football in a well run club. He'd be a star there so the confidence will return and he'll get game time because he'll improve them.

{Edit} Not saying he's Lg2 standard BTW, just thinking of a win-win situation. He need game time, preferably in a good footballing side. As far as I know, Lincoln would offer that.

And who pays his wages? Lincoln ????? How do they afford him? And would he even consider going I doubt it, sorry that's a none starter

They made upwards of £2m from their cup run last year and have one of, if not the highest home average attendance in the division
