Reported that Southampton want £8m for him. Given he was atrocious for Birmingham last year, I can’t believe he’s anywhere near worth that.

Far too steep a price. That fee plus wages means it's a complete non-starter. Makes the Waghorn deal look a bargain when in reality it was anything but.

This market is truly batshit crazy. I can't get my head around it.

I suppose when you've had your pants pulled down on the Danny Ings transfer, you can justify in your head Sam Gallagher being worth £8m.

No way is he worth that, not even in today's market. Although I guess we'll see.

GALLAGHER FREE TO LEAVE
Southampton
are willing to let striker Sam Gallagher leave the club this summer, Sky Sports News understands.
Gallagher, who has two years remaining on his current contract, featured only six times for the Saints last season.
The 23-year-old is understood to have already attracted interested from clubs in the Premier League and Sky Bet Championship.
Gallagher has previously spent time on loan at Milton Keynes Dons, Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City.
His spell on loan at Blackburn saw him produce the best goal scoring return of his career so far, netting 12 in 47 appearances while being deployed mainly in a wide role.
Gallagher previously represented Scotland at U19 level before switching his allegiances to England and then featured for the Three Lions at U19 and U20 level.

Surely not.

You were desperate for him to sign for us, werent you?

Saints want in excess of £5 million - there we go, discussion over
If the options were Sam Gallagher £5M, Madine £6M and Waghorn £7.5M then I know who I’d have out of the three. Hopefully though, this isn’t the pool we’re fishing in.

I haven’t watched the lad that much but when you look at his appearance and scoring record I would say we need better anyway. If that’s the sort of money they want for him then we definitely need to look elsewhere. He’s someone I might take a punt on for a couple of million, no more than that.

He didn’t play last season. He didn’t seem to kick up a fuss just was happy to sit on bench and earn a fortune. It’s a no from me based on attitude.

The Star are reporting that Sky Sports have said we've reopened our interest in him.

I haven't seen Sky Sports report that. I suspect this is The Star sneaking in a bit of inside info.

And whether it's coming from Sky Sports or The Star..... it's likely to be true.

So..... back on the Samwagon we get. Are we ready? I want 100 pages.

Id take him for the right price. Wilder clearly rates him and his stock is low right now. If we put in a bunch of performance-related incentives in the fee we should be able to make the initial payout low which protects us if he is a complete flop.

That said I would then expect us to then go out and get another striker with a bit more Premier League experience to lower the risk...

Dwight Gayle maybe?

I obviously trust Wilders judgement but I can honestly say SG has not remotely impressed me when I've seen him.

If we are considering him be interesting to know what the expectations if him are.

Always makes me wonder about a younger player who doesn't impress too much on limited loan spells, and doesn't appear to garner too much interest from other clubs.

I know theres a suggestion that Soton have wanted large loan fees but I'd have expected him to have had more first team football at this stage.

100% - couldn’t be arsed to try and get a game last year. Happy to do nothing all season and is living off a decent couple of months 3+ seasons ago.

No from me unless it’s for peanuts

WTF...!!!!..why are we still being linked with a move for Gallagher, he's done fck all for the Saint's, 6 time's last season wow and out on loan...and why have they put a 5million tag on him ffs..he's not worth a sky diver ni mind all that..ffs..!!!

"Hello Southampton, we're interested in signing Sam Gallagher. How much?"

"£6m."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah, we figured he's been on the books of a Premier League club for a few years, so this is the least we're entitled to."

"Oh. Forget it then."

"That's fine, we'll pay him another £3m for nothing, it really doesn't matter. We're minted. But we cannot afford to sell him for £3m..."

CW is a well known fan so I wouldn't be surprised if he is indeed back-in for him especially if other targets aren't materialising (Maupay --> Villa; McBurnie --> Brighton).

£5m (or whatever the fee is) may sound a lot but strikers are costly - the benchmark should be Madine for £6m.

I might be wrong here, but I think Southampton didn't want him going out on loan last season? I'm not so sure Gallagher didn't want to go out on loan.

I've read the articles that we're interested in him but nowhere does it say that we are actually interested. The Star says that Sky Sports say we are interested but then you read the Sky Sports article and it only says he has interest from the Championship and Premier League clubs.

I would imagine he would be one of a number of alternatives been looked at if we don't get McBurnie, but its all guesswork int it!

Sure I read that he wanted a pay rise to go out on loan.... hardly desperate to play.

In either case, it’s his career he needed to show some gumption and actually control of it and get himself some game time - even if it was only for a few months.

Another one who’ll wake up at 24/25 and realise he’s played only a handful of games and achieved fuck all.

Imagine if you are Jerome Sinclair,he must regret what happened every time he wakes up

Agree, he had the chance to reestabish his career in the palm of his hand but didn’t have the bollox to do anything about it and tell his agent he wanted to play and to stop taking this piss.

I’ll Never understand why he didn’t do that - the agent clearly wasn’t acting in his clients best interests but he just let it happen.

Do you know what he is doing these days?,is he still wallowing in Watford’s reseves?

Think so.

Disasterous spell at Sunderland 1 goal in 13 appearences .

Slightly better for Oxford 4 in 16 appearances

In fairness, I don’t actually think he was ever that good and was living off Liverpool paying for him as a youngster

You might be right mate, I can't remember. He did get a pay increase just before his loan deal to Birmingham. Maybe we couldn't afford his wages last summer. If Wilder's shown an interest before and Gallaghers shown a lack of desire to play then I doubt we'll be back in for him.
