Not sure how it all works so I could well be wrong....If someone at the club got in touch with his agent, could that be viewed as tapping up?
Hey agent we like the look of your lad we might keep tabs on him ,his contract is up at the end of the season isn't it ,nothing to see here

I don't like him. Apparently always injured, and seems like a player who just here for the journey and won't be "arsed" to put in the extra effort.

Bad signing in my eyes. But would be happy to be proved wrong
Apparently always injured? Have you been listening to a daft lad from Barnsley on the radio?

I did hear that although you can't contact a player directly you are allowed to speak to his agent. But I've never verified it so it may be wrong.

Over 100 league games at 23 for one club , 'apparently' you are talking shit ,love slagging a player down before hes kicked a ball.

I got to admit I'm excited about him and a little dubious all at the same time. I hope there will be no off field antics that will get him ostracized before he has a chance to solidify his position here. However he looks damn comfortable and confident on the ball and I'm looking forward to seeing him in red and white, got the potential to be a fan favorite this kid!

I'm warming to him quicker than piss in a pint pot!

Liked his interview... came across fairly well and dealt with the pissgate question with ease.

Reminds me of myself actually. Doesn't take himself too seriously but is very confident in his own ability. Not sure if that's an age thing

Bodes well....

New Sheffield United signing Samir Carruthers has said his start to life at the club hasn't been perfect.

Speaking to me this morning, he talked about how he started training wearing his shorts the wrong way around:

That was due to him pissing them and needing to hide the stain. FFS cut him some slack, who hasn't pissed their shorts?

The default position on any new signing should be complete neutrality and openness to seeing what they can bring to the team, lest one ends up looking like a twat if the player ends up doing well.

His antics prior to joining the club are an irrelevance.

Au Contraire. If said new signing had twatted a pig or pissed in a pigs pint pot he gets instant Ledge Status from me.

He's got a snakey/untrustworthy voice:D, and he's "not arsed" where he plays "as long as I'm on the pitch" don't know how to take that.

First impressions and all that . Bloke has confidence and is a footballer of the new blades era . Brains in his head and feet. Under Wilders guidance and management IMO , we have got us one hell of a player .

Forget how he talks , let him do the talking on the pitch . He wants to play .

I would like to challenge this view, in the interest of reasoned debate.

It does matter how an individual has acted prior to joining our club, as said antics tell us a lot about the person we are employing. All players represent our club on and off the pitch and Carruthers has bad form. Terrible form.

Glory be we have been burnt before. In recent times Ched, Baxter, King, to a degree McNulty. Idiots all of them and undesirable.

Carruthers is supposed to be a professional athlete. He has been given an opportunity we would all covet. Yet he comes over like an Essex barrow boy and gives no indication of having any knowledge about our club. If I was a professional footballer I would be a student of the game.

He should have done his homework. His advisors/the management should have helped him to look and act the part. I could have written a few one liners for him to say which would have been music to my ears. Simple public relations.

We are crying out for a new hero, a cult player to capture the image of our club, die hard a winner just like the manager. A new player to worship and find his way to the hall of fame.

Carruthers hasn't even kicked a ball and already he doesn't look the part in my book. I hope I am wrong, and he turns out to be a top player for us. I need to give him a chance. Fair enough.

Call me an old fossil. I just can't help it.

Pissing into a pint pot whilst pissed, with a group of other pissed men is not 'Terrible form' it really isn't. Not being savvy enough to know you will be photographed is a bit dim but alcohol tends to drop IQs even amongst the brightest.

He sounds enthusiastic, i.e. just wants to be on the pitch and clearly has talent. I honestly don't know what's not to like.

How about we just trust the guy who signed him, the same guy who has got us to the top of the league, playing the best football for years. Chris has made a couple of iffy signings but only based on ability; character on the other hand is something he appears to nail every time. Samir clearly has ability so if his character has been misjudged it will be a rarity in Chris' case and I will gladly eat my words.

Depends largely on what you're comparing it to, but doing it in public is pretty grim. It's not the devil's work by any means, but shows crap judgement and booze is not a defence.

He's young and should be forgiven his minor indiscretions. But they're not irrelevant, mostly because they will be held against him should he not have learned his lessons, if not by us then by others.

Hartley Hare is also right that it wouldn't be hard for a player to show that he's done a bit of research about the club he's joining. But I'd not single Carruthers out for that, as he's one of hundreds trotting out the bland footballer speak we have to endure as fans.

Wilder and Knill will have carried out a character review and risk assessment on the player . It does seem to me putting aside Wilder the Blade , he is running BDTBL like a PLC with a HR department with each potential player having to pass a number of criteria . In simple terms we will not sign players just on football ability but on a overall vetting process .

We have to trust Wilders judgement on recruitment . The fella has raised our professional approach , discipline , character and profile .

JTW will be interesting in more ways than one . This bloke IMO is a bloody good signing and asset .

We have all acted the fool when half cut, fair enough.

I would have just gone to the toilet and probably fallen a sleep on the bog, but then I am only on old fossil. Not a dimwit.

Fair enough :D not defending what he did but nobody got hurt by it and it appears to be a one off, let's hope so anyway

I think he did portray a decent awareness of who we are as a club in his interview. He referenced his times playing here, the supporters being great, clubs marking us as the big day on the calendar. Fairly good praise imo. OK he called us 'massive' but we should take that as a compliment The big distinction from us and the Pigs is that we don't call ourselves it, we don't have to because we know how big we are without having to keep convincing ourselves unlike that bunch of insecure wankers. He has only just arrived so we can let him off with that one.

He also seems to have a decent sense of humour and doesn't appear to take himself too seriously.

Let's see how he pans out but I don't see Wilder signing any bad eggs.

Have some of you fuckers lived in a monastery all your lives? I know it's cool to be outraged at every minor indiscretion these days but ffs, he pissed in a beer glass, big fucking deal. Have a look at Titus Bramble, Frank Lampard, Steven diving twat Gerrard etc., these cunts did a lot worse, allegedly, and went on to be media darlings so get a fucking grip.

We're in the 3rd division, we have a manager who's not daft and it looks like we signed a decent player. Stop being so fucking precious and start acting like Blades not grunters.

Jesus, some of you need to get out more, you might find the life you never had.

Well said that man political correctness can fuck right off with the hatchets of this world Happy New Year Jean from all and may you have the pleasure of being fucked by a ragmans trumpet See You haven't been forgotten for your contribution Come back Chex

Thus making him look like he'd done a Paula Radcliffe. :)

In all seriousness I think it's a great addition to the squad, how he fits into the current set up is a nice problem to have. But which ever way it works I think we'll be a stronger squad with him.

Jesus, some of you need to get out more, you might find the life you never had.

I don't think that's right. I've done a lot of stupid shit over the years that, had I been caught doing it, I'd have been sacked for.

If I were photographed pissing in a pint pot at a public event, I would expect trouble from my employers for bringing the company's name into disrepute. It doesn't mean I've never done anything of that nature (I've done plenty worse) I just never got caught out. I can see both sides of this coin and I actually agree with HH fully - that doesn't make me a dullard who's never done anything risky, fun or out of line.

If you're referring to me then you're not reading the post properly. The words "minor indiscretion" and "crap judgement" don't amount to the outrage you like to perceive.

It's a single incident. He pissed in a glass when he should have known better. He apologised, didn't try to justify it at all and hasn't seemed to have done anything untoward since.

This outrage comes across to me as being outrage for outrage's sake. Making a mistake is very different to being a serial twat, like Baxter, King, Madine, Barton etc. Some perspective is needed.

As a myopic one-eyed Blade I can only ever see one view and have no sense of perspective.

I'm outraged that you think the 'outrage is for outrage's sake' and by your perspective-ism. Where do I get my compo?
You'll need to get a form from the council. I think they're next to the forms for applying for a free STD test and ticket for the Sty.
