He's gone for the club'with more ambition '..yeah right, well we'll see about that shall we ?
Just because we won't pay the same silly wages that Wolves are offering, don't mean we aren't ambitious, far from it..I think we are becoming very forward looking in all departments, and we will surprise a few 'experts'next season.
UTB

A club with more ambition? Well, if they call becoming Benfica's feeder club ambition then good luck to them.

Do we actually know he has said that or have you been duped by someone putting together this as a bit of a piss take?

Pound to a penny that quote is utter bollocks.

Why does he have to say that? Pathetic really and might be way off the mark. Hope so anyway.

I will go out on a limb and say with the uncertainty behind the scenes, another foreign manager untried in this country let alone Championship; I think we should be looking to finish similiar position or higher than Wolves. They will be a long way off the top and closer to the bottom i feel.

They could almost put me in charge there and it won't make any difference. From what I can understand, transfer policy will be decided in the boardroom with no input from the manager, basically they want a yes man.

I really don't understand this money is Bennett's motivation view. It's just coming across as sour grapes to me. It's not like he's joined a small Championship club like Burton for a couple of extra grand.

Wolves are a decent sized club who are established at this level, Bennett can also expect to challenge for a first team place. If you asked most neutrals who you would expect to be challenging for promotion next season, many would say Wolves over us. The extra wages will be a factor, but it wouldn't surprise me if he chose Wolves over us if the contract offer had been exactly the same.

An alternative view is that Wolves are an administrative nightmare who underachieved hugely last season and whose manager has just left after falling out with the board over transfer plans. A new man has come in and he has no knowledge of English football save for working with Ian Castro and Phil Neville at Valencia. Add Jorge Mendes into the mix and you have bugger all structure at that club.

OK, but how are we a massively more attractive club than Wolves?

We're a newly promoted team with a modest budget and therefore an unknown quantity at Championship level. Unfortunately, right now, Wolves are a safer bet for established Championship players especially when we aren't going to compete with them financially.

No problem with him choosing Wolves - they are a similar sized club to us and are not newly promoted. However, for him to be so disrespectful to us just makes him look like a complete and utter twat. I can't say I even know who he is - but from what I've read it seems many of the Wolves fans are not happy they have signed him - which suggests that as well as being a twat he isn't particularly good.

I didn't say we were a "massively more attractive club than Wolves". It's difficult to argue against them being the more attractive for players at the moment (mid-table side, decent budget) but I was suggesting that there are a number of factors which might give players cause for concern. Wolves are as likely to implode and exit the division downwards this season as they are to get it right and get promoted. There's a lot of unknowns.

We ought to get a quick doff of the cap in before they decline though? Wouldn't want to leave it too late...

As for Bennett: fuck him. He's someone else's problem now and evidently money is his main motivation.

This is the quote I completely disagree with, you're claiming he's only gone to Wolves for the money, when my argument is that there are many factors as to why Wolves are attractive to Championship players.

Unfortunately unless we are willing to pay decent wages, a newly promoted team isn't going to be attractive to established Championship players. You also need to be signing top players to attract other top players, players from League One and Two aren't going to convince players we are serious about promotion.

Why are people getting so worked about a player that they have ZERO evidence that we were ever interested in and who according both Wolves and Norwich fans is pants anyway?

Some people:eek:

I didn't know him until this thread started.
We don't know if Wilder even wanted him,
And he's gone somewhere else.
What are we getting so worked up for?

Whether TF wanted him or not is immaterial. He plays for another team so he must be fantastic. He's a must-have and it's a disgrace if we miss out. Where's the ambition if we don't sign every player who becomes available, good, bad or montgomery?

It's the Bladesfans' Way.

What's he said that was disrespectful? I did read his comments but can't recall anything disrespectful, just the usual stuff players say when they are signed?

Thanks for that Davie, interesting read. This is pretty scary though: conventional wisdom is that a wages shouldn't make up more than 60% of revenue (hence the SCMP regs in Leagues One and Two) but it looks like only one club in the Championship meets that. Brentford and Forest are not viable if these numbers are accurate.

You're welcome, the guy lives in Switzerland and is an accountant. He gets every teams accounts and studies them forensically.
The point of FFP is a mute one, QPR, Leicester and Bournemouth all fell foul of the regs and so far got away with it. . The formers case ( which may act as a bit of a test case) comes up very soon.
The FFP rules of a maximum loss or £39m spread over 3 years will start to bite and should create a more level playing field (apart from the PL parachute clubs) Fortunately Sunderland and Hull are really shitely run clubs

Only if it's appropriate ;-)

"Main" motivation. There are others, as you correctly point out; but it's not all rosy in the Black Country. We are an attractive proposition in our own right: momentum is an important factor in football.

A pig fan told me about that £39m loss over 3 year rule and it was the first i had heard of it.
So it is basically shit or bust for them next season with how much they have spent these last 2 years?

Absolute arse wipe in my opinion. Who in their right mind would join a club without a manager? He signs and then finds out he's Portuguese to boot! He hasn't got a cat in hells chance of playing at wolves. So he's gone there to get a splintered arse for a few £ more. Glad we dodged a bullet there.
Everybody in the world has known for at least two days that Nuno was going to be appointed. Why is it suddenly a shock that their manager is Portuguese?

I seem to recall that many Wednesday fans thought that this seasons spending for them was a final attempt to spend big and then avoid FFP by going up. Now they've failed it is likely that they will have to cut costs to an extent but to what extent who knows. That said, it appears that its very easy to get round FFP, as proved by the graph above.

He can't. He simply can't access sufficient data to analyse the accounts forensically. I know this because I used to work with a forensic accountant and I know what they do (roughly speaking). He carries out basic analysis of simple ratios.

There will be a sea change this coming season.

Huddersfield deserve credit imo for delivering a promotion team on a small budget. And they played good football and had that "togetherness" which carried them through.

This will be the new "spend big" turnaround.

It is possible to be successful without breaking the bank.

Blades are in a great position to prove that. We have some very talented players who have cost us next to nowt.

Can't wait for the season to start!

Reality check Indeed.
Many in football have woke up to just how good CW.AK recruitment strategy is.
A year ago it was pretty easy to get players to join the biggest club in the 3rd division by a country mile, but now we are in the Championship it means we are easily outbid. . There are many championship clubs, outrageously backed in a game of chase the dream, paying more in wages than they take in revenue.
We could lose out on many potential signings.
Might not be what many on here want to hear but any agent worth his salt, as soon as he knows CW/AK are interested are going to be going public to get higher wages for the player and commission for themselves.
The harsh reality is we can become victims of our own success.

And this is why our recruitment is going to have to come from League One, but they had better be the very best from League One
And then we have not got to fuck about with "our principles" whilst they sign for Millwall or fucking skint Bolton

I didn't say he was shit. I said it wasn't forensic. I quite like his blog, which I've been reading for a couple of years.
