1/3 of Holding's loan has now expired and he's played 1/2 a game of football, in a 3, against bottom of the league.

Surely it's time to see if he can improve us? If not, why's he here?
He's here because Wilder fucked up our January window by failing to prioritise what we all knew was needed - a match fit replacement for Souttar as close as possible to the latter's quality.

We had the chance later in the window , "For a Few Dollars More" , to get Jimmy Dunne , who was totally match-fit and just the kind of defensive leader we lack.

But instead Wilder , or the club , wouldn't pay perhaps £1m extra fee for him , nor for JohnJoe to come in as a fit & ready RB.

But paradoxically they did pay £10m for a totally mediocre striker.

It's the "replacement of JoC with Brewster" stupidity, all over again.

I don't actually dislike Wilder but I'm sick of his flawed thinking & decisions.

And if you're gonna wait till the end of the window thereby losing a month of a player's availability - why the fuck sign a CB who is evidently far from match-fit.

It's folly of a sort that only dem Blades have the stupidity to practise.

Your Brewster/ O’Connell comment resonates with me.

That summer Wilder had it in his head that he had to have Relegation Rammers no matter what. This was despite Lundstram clearly deciding it wasn’t for him.

As well as the O’Connell/Brewster point, I’d also say Lundstram being replaced and loaning a keeper instead was also the more required move.

He obviously just isn't match fit... Bloke hadn't kicked a ball in a match for 18 months (something daft like that). Everyone would know this as it's common knowledge he was frozen out and therefore obvious he wouldn't be able to slot straight in so on that basis I'd have to agree it's a panic signing.

BUT, I do think he could potentially be a brilliant signing, once fit and playing regular. Maybe he was signed with one eye on next season if we get promoted.

But but but sir... I pointed this out and everyone said he had played 4 games at U21 level so would be fit and raring to go...

(imagine believing U21 football is at the same level as Championship football)

I'm wondering how Holding is getting match fit. We can't risk playing him in the U-21s or first team.

in open play the anel/robbo combo isnt too bad its set pieces corners and crosses that come in to our box where we look shaky thats where a big centre back comes in as souttar did i think whether we stick with 4 at the back or 5 we need to start playing holding

When Souttar and Moore were starting we looked very solid against set pieces. Without them we've looked vulnerable. With the way Cannon has been performing its worth having Moore on the pitch before him if only for his aerial prowess.
That's why the failure to properly replace Souttar in the window was completely baffling. We spent 10m on a forward who is currently looking third choice at best when that money could have gone on a 'play every game' dominating centre back

Don't forget the bit when Robbo has the ball at his feet, that's often pretty shaky too

yes it is your right personally think the only way robinson should get in the starting 11 is if we go back to 3 at the back and put holding in know its like a backward step but it might be one we have to take to get top 2 a set up of 3412 would be my idea just now hamer/ohare in behind 2 strikers

Who would have had to play from day 1 if one of the two senior CBs in our squad got injured. Wouldn't be an issue if we had more than 3 CBs.
That's the nub of it we are running on two fit specialist CBs plus a half-cock Holding , plus shortarse Alfie , plus the young lad CW brought in whose name escapes me.
If we fuck up promotion from our current 2nd place , and it becomes clear enough that it was poor centre of defence / lack of defensive leader , which did the fucking ...

(whilst Burnley have Egan and many other CBs and never concede) ...

there is only the idiotic January decision-maker to hold responsible.

Imo , it has to be negligent to lose a Souttar on 26 December and not even have the means to replace him on the actual pitch by 26 February , TWO MONTHS LATER.

One daft red for Anel or Robbo and it seems we're in self-destruct territory.

Anyway , we'll have direct evidence of Jimmy Dunne's value at the Rs on Saturday.
I strongly suspect that at half Cannon's price , he'd have made twice the contribution to our campaign , that Cannon has or ever will.

It matters not that Dunne's currently playing RB , he was a CB for years.
And he's a local hero/defensive leader.

Why does my club have to make things so hard for itself by its own volition ?

Not even half Cannon's fee, barely a quarter

And defensive contributions aside, I'm confident he'll score more than Cannon between January and the end of the season. He's already up by 1

If Holding is out for the season then we're kind of getting what we deserve. Also, that would mean Gilchrist needs to be in every squad and therefore banish another garbage January signing, Clarke. Small mercies

Gilchrist is apparently injured

Similar situation with McB, he was more useful defending set pieces than in attacking areas

one way or another holding has to come in we cant carry on with anel and robinson as our centre back pairing only way those 2 should be in the team together is if holding is between them in a back 3

Have been waiting for Silent & Co to leap to the club's defence on the January misappropriation of £10m from desperately needed CB to mediocre striker , but their silence is deafening.

I venture to suggest that implies almost universal bafflement with the decision which was presumably influenced by Wilder.

It's so frustrating to witness poor judgement by one's own club.

Our new owners need to get savvy about soccer and follow the Prince's advice to keep a much closer grip on transfers than he did.
Less than optimum use of precious £ is the road to financial pain & suffering and consequent failure to make the kind of progress which is so desirable but so elusive.
As we know from our 2 PL relegations

i think jimmy dunne was the centre back wilder was banking on and really think 3m was a decent price for him having said that i was in the minority in wanting cannon to come in and havent given up on him yet we still dont get enough early balls in from the flanks to get the best out of a striker like cannon we still piss about with it out wide trying intricate triangles by the time the ball does go in the defence is set but do acknowledge that at 10m he was overpriced i think 7m would have been more realistic

Yeh , it's not over for Cannon but he's starting off closer to Brewster than Campbell.
If Wilder wanted Dunne , why on earth did we not pay the fee , if we had £10m to spare ?
I hope to goodness that this Dunne/Cannon mystery was not down to the new owners influencing things when they've yet to gain any experience of British Soccer 🤞.
