No mate. That was just an example. There were reports that Chelsea were now prepared to accept 1.5m plus add ons having originally been looking for 5m.

He did love defending. At some point a player becomes a bit of a snip.

Getting him back on the cheap is a no brainer. He didn't do too much wrong last season.

Didn't he start as one at Chelsea and then shifted to RB because he lacked experience?

Ultimately I think his skill set is better suited for CB even though he lacks a bit in size.

You are right, he’s literally spent his whole life being coached as a centre back. They were desperate at right back so stuck him in.

John Terry once detectives him as Chelsea’s most promising young CB.

in today’s market £1.5m is good value.

He was a 7 out of 10 player for me last year. Nothing exceptional but never had a poor game.

And he could defend well, which we will need in this side.

I do get the feeling that's Sellés has uncovered more that needs doing than perhaps first thought and is being quite ruthless in getting shut of those that aren't going to cut it, together with those leaving with only a year left, I understand it seems a bit of a disaster, but if it's something that needs to happen to move the squad/club away from the culture and style we've become used to, then so be it.

Should have been done before season started.

Yes, because that always happens for clubs, new manager or not

Some clubs seem a bit more on it than we have been over the last few years.

‘Waiting for bargains’ can go either way as happens with other clubs.

The point being surely there is enough time pre-season to sort out the wheat from the chaff?

RB ok , CB no chance.

6'3" minimum these days for CB.

We've lost Souttar 6'7" , Moore 6'5" , Anel 6'5" , Souza 6'1".

We're desperately short on height & physique across the team.

Tall strong athletes only need apply.
Apart from Bindon (6'3), One (6'2) and Soumare (6'2), I don't think we have any other players registered 6'1+. In modern football that's always going to be a crutch for us, look what we did to Bristol C in the playoffs.

he’s injured right now but I always wanted us to have a go for Isaak Touré. He’s over two metres tall and a left footed central defender. It would be like an adult playing with kids.
How do you defend against that? All you can do is plan for the second ball!

Last season I can’t remember anyone thinking Gilchrist was good enough and most wanted to see back of PA.

Now, because we are desperate it feels like everyone’s clamouring to sign him. As for new owners looks like the 💯 consortium is having trouble agreeing on anything apart from selling players to get money in.

New owners aaaaaarrrrrggggtttttttttt

Gilchrist is no good. He looked tidy in a defence with Harry Souttar in it. But watch him closely and he was learning on the job how to be a right back. Regularly gave players too much space, poor make-up speed. The last player you want in this defence right now.

I think he was decent. Suffered because he wasn’t as good as burrows on the opposite flank imo. Personal preference but I’d rank him only behind choudray in our right backs last season.

And I mean we are desperate though. We have 1 above average championship defender in burrows and he looks out of sorts so far in this system.

Imo there is something to be said for having a base level of competence. Imo gilchist could bring that for a reasonable fee. We don’t seem to have much else on th horizon and the recruitment team are incapable at acting With speed to sort this out. Which is why we’re are currently replaying a left back playing at a non league level as one of our centre backs

I would agree it's frustrating leaving it late, but I guess in this situation, we have a new manager with a new philosophy and style and it's probably going to take longer to a) see who's up to it and b) replace where required

Don’t disagree about a base level but if Woo is incoming and Seriki one of our better players who get left out?

I was hoping the club had learned such lesson with Slav ( and others) but we appear to digging the same holes as previously.

Still time to put it right and get a squad capable of a top six spot mind…

I’d have him, definitely. I just wondered if we’d be linked. I liked him. And we never saw him at centre half.

If there is interest in RND, the club should most definitely deal - IMHO he's done following his horrific injuries and hasn't / won't got back to anywhere near his previous levels. Why he was offered his current extension is mystifying.
I'm obviously in the minority but I would stay well clear of Gilchrist - he's not big enough to be an effective CB at Champ level, especially in Utd's team and he (somehwat understandebly) looked like a fish out of water at RB. A specialist RB who is primarily a defender but can also get forward is what should be sought.
An experienced CB, ideally with some pace to partner Binden is also what should be sought, with additional cover recruited if JLT does indeed move to Basic Football FC.

Nice problem to have though. I would see Woo and Seriki as being similar to Baldock and Freeman, and then Baldock and Bogle. Real competetion for places can spur both players on.
