RND new contract

He was sort of a rough Kyle Walker before the injury in that his positional sense was not great but his pace could get him out of trouble .. looked like he was running in treacle tonight, two years ago he cuts that cross out for the goal.

I've never rated him, dives in far to often.A decent enough back up I suppose.

Heard he's injured again? 🤕😬

3 Year deal did seem odd at the time.
Wouldn't say it was odd giving him a new contract (3 years yes possibly was would have been better with 2 and a year option in our favour), But we didn't know if we had a pot to piss in, we didn't know if we was been took over or not, we hardly had any players, we had no depth to the squad. Wilder must not have had the funds to replace him or upgrade him and the money needed to be spent elsewhere. If anything it shows what a mess and the desperate state the club was in.

No one could forsee how the injuries would impact RND. If he came back to the levels he was at pre injury /injuries then we would all be sat saying no brainer or why did we let him go etc, it's a shame as he looks like a shell of what he used to be...

Either way I would imagine he's on much reduced terms and that's why it's 3 years.

I'm fairly sure we didn't handle RND's previous recovery well, and the new contract was to "smooth things over".

That’s the only explanation for a 3 year contract.
No way we should be pushing new contracts with Robinson or Brewster until we know which league we will be playing in next season.
Well, unless we suddenly get relegated there's no need for at least one of them next year.

Not just odd, dumb..

Negotiations ongoing with Brewster and Robinson too.

I do worry sometimes that we give manager's too much authority over such things.
If we go up, they both need waving goodbye.

I'd argue that we bin them off even if we don't.

Brewster for sure, plays a bit part for us as a squad player, JLT at max would/should be a back up squad player next season, if we’re serious about staying up we need a whole lot better

The thought of JLT being the next cab off the rank if someone gets injured next season makes me wince.

The mismatch of him against the likes of Haaland, Salah, Palmer and even people like Mbuemo, Cunha, Kluivert, Mateta, Watkins (the list goes on) further down the league is biblical.

Not disagreeing but we have to many that aren’t going to make the step up next season , how on earth do we get that many players in of that level, I would say it’s pretty much impossible

Just announced on Twitter, fingers crossed he can get back to his previous form
NOT going to see that until we get to a situation were he can play his own game.
ie FORWARD thinking football rather than chuckle brothers endless, aimless, dangerous passing between 7 defenders around their own box.
(Goaly, back four, two centre mid)
When I saw him in an FA Youth Cup tie at the Lane (best player on field easily) I saw our best attacking left back since Dane Whitehouse.
My fear was his height and potentially limited defending ability against a tricky winger.
Rob Page sawed him same game and put him straight in the U-21/3 team for Wales not U-18.
Wilder saw him presumably and said get him to Barrow, (admittedly to a nominally good manager)
Same problem now. WILDER.

Do we know what the crack is with RND? Is he likely to fit for pre-season?

Have said elsewhere I would expect him either to drop down to L2 level or retire from football. But that was before I realised he had another 2 years on his deal. What a crazy new contract that was in the circumstances.
Absolute madness!!

All those players going out of contract last summer. And one of the few you give a 3-year deal to is the one in long-term recovery from a potentially career-threatening injury. ¯\(ツ)

Not sure he's done at this level, but if we're playing a back four again next season I can't see where he fits in besides as a third choice LB.
He played a few games this season and looked completely finished... and that was at u21 level.

It's a real shame what's happened with RND. There was a time when I thought he looked like a potential successor to JOC in the LCB role. Unfortunately, in the few rare appearances he has made during the last couple of seasons, he's looked out of his depth at Champ level.

Not likely to feature anyway, is he? I’d say he’s probably done at this level. That was a strange contract to award.
Agreed. He’s looked woeful when he’s played any minutes this season. And I think it might become a more sentimental contract than anything else. He was on an extremely low contract previously and the request almost came out of the blue last summer when we were struggling to put a side together.

I would’ve expected him out on loan in Jan to take the pressure off him. I’d expect that this summer as well

His entire game was based around his athleticism , his pace meant he was a good option at left wing back in dealing with tricky wingers, note how he completely snuffed out Brennan Johnson in the 2nd leg at Forest, and he could also get up and down the left side attacking wise..

His weakness defensively was that he could get caught ball watching and out of position.. but his excellent pace could get him out of trouble.

Since his major injury he looks to have lost all his pace meaning the entire strongpoints to his game have gone.

… but apparently he has a good attitude and is popular in the dressing room and ‘gets the culture of the club’. Hence 3 year deal…

Aye, in the cup he looked all over the place, but there's a chance (albeit a slim one) that he could recover his previous consistent level.

Wasn't there some discussion about whether United was in some way, shape or form partly responsible for his injury? The three year deal on Championship backup money might be partly making amends for him being injured on our watch while on an incentivised junior pro deal.

Or we completely lost the plot last summer. Either option is valid.

The legacy of Hecky and the general conditioning of our players since COVID.

We are lucky to have got Brewster back fit just about.

RND has had it rough with injury. IF they can get him back to his best we would have a player. Others have been given time like Brew and JOC so i reckon we give him a bit more time.

Well, we don’t have much choice with that anyway given that he still has 2 years. I hope he can get back, but we’ll see.
