RND new contract

If we didn't offer increased terms we don't have this thread
I get that….but why would we? I’m playing devils advocate. But could it play into RNDs hands that he can’t seem to get fit so a reduced deal is worth it for him & we get the benefit of a decent player on reduced terms albeit with a high injury risk.

It’s not like we’ve got cash to throw around so it won’t have been given up easily

Positive news I guess. If he stays fit he's probably one of the best in the division in his position. That's a big 'if', though.

Guessing the club is in a different position now to what it was at the end of June, but it does grate a little that there's a new deal sorted for RND whom we've seen little of in two years, yet we couldn't sort one for McBurnie and some other players.
We offered McBurnie a new contract, he turned it down, we’ve moved on

Because he was on peanuts before and he offers perfectly viable cover at good value even on increased money?
See the rest of my message not a small part of it. I’m not disagreeing just offering a different opinion that it might not be & why it might not be.

At which point he runs his contract down and leaves
And I’d be completely and utterly indifferent to that. Shown absolutely nothing whilst being here outside our biggest transfer fee and one of the higher wages in the squad. 60/70 appearances.. 5 goals.

Perfectly reasonable. Just don't expect a player to show any "loyalty" if he scores a dozen by Christmas and we've done nothing in relation to it

I read the whole of it thanks
😂 I was just trying to have a debate with you about both sides of why this has happened as I mentioned a few times within my responses.

You don’t have to be arsey if someone has a difference of opinion or offers a different side. Grow up or don’t bother being on a forum because not everyone is going to agree with you 👍🏻

I hope it's appearance related or has an injury clause in it. Tying a player up on a long term contract who has had a serious injury and hardly played in2 years is a big risk

Not sure quite why you're snapping like that, and don't really get what you're trying to say to be honest. I see you're trying to play devil's advocate, fine, there's a time and a place for it and it's not in the context of a situation where if we tried fucking about because "injury proneness" RND tells his agent to block the club's number and find him a new club

Don't know we're you get your information from but most sources say that mcburnie offer was 'cheekily low'
The official site specifically mentioned we were in discussions with him. Some itk types even said we agreed with him only for that to obviously not happening the end.

What I’m trying to say - there is a possibility that RND takes either the same or reduced terms but has the security of a contract for the next 3 years.

Pros for RND: nearly retired (if you believe what you read & hear) due to injury. This contract gives him a guaranteed income for 3 years regardless of his fitness even if it’s the same terms or less

Cos of my suggestion: he’s still a young player who if he gets his fitness back is a top championship full back

That’s the reasoning. I’m not saying it’s right, it’s an alternative thought.

OK, that's clearer and fair. RND still considers it for less time than it took me to write this reply, which is why I dismissed it out of hand, but it's an opinion that someone might hold!

I think we realised that we were going to be able to get far better than Ozzy. If we had been desperate to keep McB the money was there to be able to do it.
Let's judge that if we get a Moore back up/competition or not!

Fully accept that. If he’d take a lower wage with goal bonuses I’d be tempted. But going on what we’ve seen so far, I’ve seen nothing to think he’ll score 3 goals, let alone a dozen.

True, I'm talking about the situation where we actually see his potential realised and want to extend. If we don't it's a moot point

What potential though? On a serious note.. I’ve seen nothing outside the purple patch at Swansea to suggest he’s capable of leading the line in the championship let alone the premier league. Consistently injured, consistently snatches at shots, woefully inept positionally. I just cannot see anything outside a league one/league two striker as things stand.

Contrast to RND, he looked quality before the injuries, a player we missed for ages whilst out. I can’t say the same for Brewster. We didn’t miss his goals, because he never scored!

Do you actually attend games, and if so, in some reasonable state?

That one, along with his work at England youth levels. Yes a long time has transpired since then, true, but there is a reason why we "spunked" the money we did on him, and it's not what he had already done. Fully accept it's unlikely that it will ever be realised at this stage

I do believe it or not, sit on the kop or Westfield upper. Don’t drink as I drive to the match with my stepdad and brother. I see it for what it is. Apologies I don’t think the sun shines out his arse and find the cheerleader persona makes up for our highest transfer fee ever paid and an insane amount of money in wages.

That’s my feeling. Far too many years have gone on, alongside some pretty big injuries. I cannot see him realising the potential he had. I’d be shocked if he goes on to be better than Osula. Though as we’ve said.. one injury/multiple injuries quickly knock potential on its arse

He was under a long term contract, what did you expect us to do?
Loan him out, try and get something going for him, but we’ve kept him, played him whenever he’s been fit and honestly nothing, I would love to see him work out but it’s just not, in fact keeping him here stops the progress of someone coming through
