Outgoing? Ricky Holmes

Hi,

I have heard that Ricky Holmes maybe heading back down south due to lack of game time and not settling up north.

Apparently been talking to former boss Chris Powell about making a switch to roots hall.

Anyone else up there heard anything?

Seems unlikely to me.

Why's it seem unlikely mate, fee? I have no idea why it hasn't worked for him here, strange signing really.

I like Powell, think he'll do a good job for you.

Holmes wasn't listed for loan or sale in May when several others were. My guess is it will depend if Brooks stays and if he goes whether Wilder can get a replacement in time. I can see Holmes going tbh, it was very odd how little he played last season.

If we bring Palmer in on loan I'm sure selling Holmes might become a consideration, if not I can't see him leaving yet unless he asks for a move (which he hasn't yet as Wilder mentioned in his interview the other day he's received no phone calls from players asking for a move). I think the fact that Wilder has said everyone's happy here (as far as he's aware) puts that rumour to bed.

Exactly this. If they list him after 6 months (and a year chasing) it looks like a failure for both Holmes and Wilder. Just circulate his name on the grapevine. Then it just looks like we had a good offer that suited all parties. Sometimes it just doesnt work out- no need to chuck anybody under the bus.

Not saying he should. But we have limited resources and 2 similarly aged players filling the same role. We aren't a club who can afford to carry wages that aren't offering production/taking up minutes

Wilder spoke of some players being too individual. I suspect he was referring to Holmes.

I think he’s a good player, and I’m sorry to admit this, but the hairstyle and demeanour screams out “poser” to me. That doesn’t fit with the Blades culture. Tbh I hope he stays and gets in the team, but I think he’ll go the way of Carruthers. Very talented but an individual rather than a team player.

Unless there’s been some sort of fall out then I’d be very surprised if Wilder let him go without giving him a chance.

Wilder chased him for long enough to suggest he thought he could do something at this level, why would he let him go without seeing whether or not his judgement was correct, it doesn’t make sense.

Did you watch any games last season? For many Duffy was easily our best player

I thought he was one of the few players, maybe the only one, who actually got the ball down on the floor and had a run at the Wolves defence. That's where he stood out for me. He was purposeful and direct. It didn't come to much though because we were well beaten on the day. I thought that was the start of us seeing more of him in the team.

It's hard to say if he is good enough as he barely featured. My gut says he isn't and his age is against him also, so I would not be disappointed if he left; more so disappointed that we signed him in the first place rather than someone with more potential to develop.
