He's an awful lot better on the ball than off it. He's decisive in his decision making when we are on a counter attack which is a great skill to have. He works hard.

He still lacks awareness off the ball. He's a step late to react to a situation and still needs to be told where to press, when to close down. He reminds me of Callum Robinson in this aspect.

Deserves so much credit for his contribution this season. I'm still not sure what I'd do about his deal if it was my decision.
His passing and awareness of where he’s teammates are and where he’s going to pass it before he receives it are of a very high level. I actually think his pressing is very good and he works very hard closing defenders down.
Compare it to BBD, who received the ball on the touch line hadn’t thought about what to do with it and passed it to a Coventry player.
I expect Brewster has a very high pass completion rate with a lot of incisive passes played

He definitely works hard but you see a lot of times where he's not anticipating where he should be and his eventual press is late. When he does get on top of a defender on the ball he's good at forcing errors with his strength and tenacity. It's just that initial reaction time. It maybe explains why he's looking better in a deeper role. Whenyou watch Campbell, he's setting off to do something the I stant it needs to happen which is why he's in space so often.

It's not meant as a huge dig at Brewster and he's vastly exceeded expectations in terms of availability and effectiveness. I just think there's a realistic conversation to be had about if the £ it would cost to resign him could be used more effectively on a different player.

Same conversation every week! He's supposedly a top earner so he'd need to slash that - and it's perfectly possible that he might be willing to, as a grounded lad that probably would like to stay with us.

Edit: He's probably realistic that he's not able to go and play 90 minutes anywhere due to the bad luck with injuries. But being a squad player somewhere that makes you happy... 🤞😘🤷‍♂️

He's shown that when he's fit and in form he's still a really good player. Re-signing him is a no-brainer, imo.

Getting a deal done shouldn't be too complicated either since I believe he's grateful that the club has stuck with him and has given him the chance to bounce back from his injuries. Would be surprised if he refuses to sign on a reasonable contract.
It will depend on the offer he is offered .The club might think he is injury prone and he could be offered much reduced terms from what he was on when we first got him . His agent could toute him around other clubs to see what others would offer him .Coming from Liverpool I should imagine he would be on a decent screw when we signed him would he be open to a drop in money which would reflect on his injuries in the past ?

A new deal is given on what you predict that player will do in the future if done right. Not as a thank you for past performance
Not as a thank you obviously. If Rhian is playing great last part of the season, that's not a thank you it's based on how he is playing, same as every 1st team player is judged.

How you are playing now is part of the calculation but nowhere near as important as how you think the investment in the player will work in the future.

Brewster has mad several match winning contributions and if he hadn't we would have been well outside the automatics somw people are blinkered and have a short memory.
Quite the opposite. People remember clearly his limited contributions since signing. He's looking a bit more like a player but don't let a couple of goals cloud your judgement. Yes he's had bad luck with injuries and he seems like a nice lad but overall he's been a massive disappointment. IF we get promoted we need better.

The problem is better is probably another £20m player who may or may not be better. It all would depend on how much money we’re able to spend as in my opinion there are other areas of the team we would need to spend heavily on to be competitive. Don’t go up it’s a given we keep him but even if we do as above I think he’d be a more than useful squad player. One more injury though and I’d change my mind

And you base that on....?
I'm not sure how to answer that? You want me to explain why a football club would use choose their estimation of how good a player will be in the future as the main information point for a new contract?

It will be based on how they are playing. Cba after this. But contracts are definitely given on 'past performance' also is the basis all players are bought. It the only definite thing to see.

I'm just glad you aren't in charge of signing players 👍

I mean, there’s quite a few articles on google that show it’s a thing.

It’s definitely something I’ve heard of before but you don’t seem to hear of them these days.

It would be a complete no starter for a player like Brewster, he’s injury prone but not to a level where it would put off the entire Championship from offering him a contract.

I’ve always said Brewster is a confidence player. He bangs a couple in then it’ll flow for him. However, he’s not a number 9 and he isn’t a number 10, he’s an oddity, think we just need his link up play and get him in and around the box because his shooting can be excellent. Plus, the players love him.

If Brewster scores in every game we’ve got left this season, if it’s the winning goal every time, then he will deserve a special thank you.

Even for trying his best during his time here he deserves a thank you.

So thank you Rhian, and good luck wherever you go after your contract with us expires this summer.

That’s the thank you we need to give him. None of the thanks should include a new contract.

The question to ask is, is a fully fit playing regular Brewster, better than Cannon, IMHO, I think he’s way ahead.
So we’ve seen what ten mill gets you (Cannon), so it would take more than ten, to replace Brewster, even if he’s just a squad player.
At the moment there’s no fee involved in giving him a new deal.
No brainer for me

Yes i agree to a point ,he is finally showing us what he can do but we have had to wait years and compared to Cannon he looks the part at last but we have had to wait years for him to shine . The point is will this be a sign he is over his problems ? Hope so i like the kid but he is no good sat in the treatment room for months on end . Fingers crossed he has finally turned the corner .

Form and confidence (in your ability and your body holding out) are fickle and so hard to quantify.

Just happy to see him continuing to contribute and getting his eye for a goal back. He was so unfortunate that the last time he’d played himself into some form he got injured and was of our ages again.

He’s probably never going to be the player we paid 15/20m for but if he can hit say 75/80% of the potential we saw in him, he can contribute for us in whichever league we end up in.

We have had to wait years, but the past doesn’t really matter so much unless we’re Wednesday. What matters is whether the medical department are satisfied that the injuries are finally behind him & that we know how to manage his fitness. That should be the main consideration in deciding whether he gets a new contract.

Interesting one this, if we'd picked him up on a free I reckon we'd letting him go, but given we've spent over £30,000,000 on his wages and transfer fee, wilder would look pretty foolish if he goes on a free

These are all players at the back end of their career though, it’s not like Brewster won’t get offers of 3 year contracts from elsewhere on decent wages, so he’s not going to sign a pay as you play with us.

We all know pay as you play is a thing, just not for a bloke in his mid 20’s who cost £22m last time around.

He is playing far better than Cannon it is a non brainer to take a chance and give him a new contract

It's not a no brainer at all... If we're in the premier league, he is not needed at all, so why waste the money ... If we're in the championship there's an argument to keep him if he's earning say a quarter of what he's on now, otherwise we can pick much better players up on free transfers ... Campbell for example

BBD is an excellent player, or is he the fall guy now?

Brewster keeps fit and contributing to the end of season...hes worth a contract all day long. Even if we have been promoted. I'm with CWvin that I rate him highly, his problem has always been injury related. Give him a clean bill of health and a run of luck with health and there's a very good player there. Always has been. He's just been (and SUFC for that matter) incredibly unlucky. It's still for all to play for, for him
