As a 14 year old I stood on the Leppings Lane end and saw the pigs put four past us without reply. I don't remember much about the actual game, but they deserved the win. 50k were there, some Blades were on their (open air) kop throughout the game, and their long haired winger, Terry Curran played a blinder. That was the humiliating Boxing Day massacre and I don't think we've truly got our revenge since. We've done the double over them, and they've done the double over us. We've won by two goals at their place, and they've won at ours. But no result has been as convincing or humbling as that 4-0.
Could we be on the brink of real revenge? I don't want to tempt fate, but if we win by a couple of goals on the 12th, that's squared Boxing Day in my opinion. We outclassed them at their place last year, and if that happens again at the Lane it's the perfect response to any taunts about the 4-0. In 1979 the second game at the Lane ended 1-1. If we beat them by four or more over two legs this team and Wilder will be Blades legends for decades to come.
