As a 14 year old I stood on the Leppings Lane end and saw the pigs put four past us without reply. I don't remember much about the actual game, but they deserved the win. 50k were there, some Blades were on their (open air) kop throughout the game, and their long haired winger, Terry Curran played a blinder. That was the humiliating Boxing Day massacre and I don't think we've truly got our revenge since. We've done the double over them, and they've done the double over us. We've won by two goals at their place, and they've won at ours. But no result has been as convincing or humbling as that 4-0.

Could we be on the brink of real revenge? I don't want to tempt fate, but if we win by a couple of goals on the 12th, that's squared Boxing Day in my opinion. We outclassed them at their place last year, and if that happens again at the Lane it's the perfect response to any taunts about the 4-0. In 1979 the second game at the Lane ended 1-1. If we beat them by four or more over two legs this team and Wilder will be Blades legends for decades to come.

I was on there South Stand near the Blades fans that fateful day as a giddy 12 year old. We were top of the league and though the deluded were having a decent season too there away record was better than it was at home. Not only did they destroy us that day but it destroyed our season. It’s a noose around our neck that can only be shed one way. The only way we can put that game to bed is to beat them by 4 clear goals or more. As Lydon says, we missed a great opportunity a few years ago. I for one won’t be getting ahead of myself. Derbies throw up all kind of results but I’d love it, just love it if we can put Boxing Day to sleep in my life time.

I wouldn't care too much about a game that took place nearly 40 years ago, I think we beat them 7:3 also. Just enjoy the season so far, there is still plenty for both sides to play for.

We are due to give a team a big thrashing sooner or later.

Next Friday night would be an ideal time to get some luck, that been evading us a lately.

In the North Stand as a shell shocked 16 year old. Life was never the same again.

Back to school in January and suddenly all the part time DirtyLeeds and Manyoo fans had brand new pig scarves.

Being a Blade was bloody hard work then and I've hated the grunters since then.

A nice little 5-0 would do me fine but it is a derby and I've learnt my lesson. We should NOT strut into this like the arrogant twats did in early September.

We’ve been here a fair few times before over the past 20 years whereby we’ve gone into the game much higher in the league with a decent side while they are in disarray, dominated them for 90 minutes and come away with a draw or defeat.

I’m not going into the game with any level of expectation other than Wilder will have the players fired up for the game, and Bullen will attempt to do the same for them. Their coaching staff at least won’t be making the mistake of treating it as “just another game” again.

Was there too DKC , remember Jeff Bourne hitting the bar straight after they went 1-0 and When Mick Speight got injured the writing was onthe wall , would love to avenge that day but I’ll settle for 3 points even if it’s a 10 ricochet OG as long as we win

I was on the leppers lane, I remember throwing my program at that twat Curran as he did a knee slide towards us, think it was 11am ko, I walked from hackenthorpe as there were no buses, shit day all round.

We’ve just scored 4 in their back yard, silencing the ground after they equalised in the most legendary, filmed from every angle way.

The Bouncing Day Massacre will do for me. :D
That has to be one of footballs most iconic moments, It was absolutely hilarious and brilliant at the same time.

I was a 12 year old on their kop with my Blades mad Mum, hated it then and for all the years up to that glorious day in September......yeah I've seen us beat them, I've seen the doubles but for me the nature of the Bouncing Day win banished Boxing Day forever.

We've won 3-1 and 2-0 previously, so what's the difference?

These 2 posts marry happily together saved me from saying it. When we went to Wembley vs them, Wednesday were chanting about the 4-0 and our fans were chanting about the 5-1, my brother, enormously impressed says, 'we're using aggregate scores to get the better of them, I think it works!'

In reality if we battered them 10-0 there would still be a reason it wasn't as good as their ancient history, personally I don't give f*k.

Share your pain of that day, as I was on that shithole they call a stand

We didn't turn up, didn't compete and they played well (the wankers)

Sept 24th went a long way to redressing the balance of that fateful day, but a Jan 12th sweet victory would be the cherry on top

I'd love to hammer em, but I think a closer game will take place. As long as we apply ourselves as we did at the shithole, I believe we'll get the right result

One of the reasons I never fawned over Sabella like many have done since. He took a robust tackle early on and completely neshed it for the rest of the game. The major reason we got hammered that day. Unforgiveable.

I was in the same stand ISC, a year older at 17, but just as shell shocked and, as you say, life was never the same again.
Sure, the pain subsides a little over time and it becomes a memory that you learn to live with, but the desire for 'the big one' to redress the balance just never leaves you.
I have little or no contact with Wednesdayites since leaving the city and even if I did, I've mellowed enough over the years to feel I wouldn't respond as vociferously as I would have had it happened a few years ago, but respond I most certainly would. I'd probably give my Wednesday-supporting next door neighbour (how unlucky is that!) a knowing smile and leave it at that (unless he foolishly decided to try to open some kind of 'banter') but more than that, I would gain a little inner peace. Weird maybe, but that's just the way it is for those of us unfortunate enough to have experienced what we did at the time/age we did. The biggest shame for me, is that the vast majority of those who I would have enjoyed having my 'moment in the sun' with have long since disappeared from my life for one reason or another. Still, that does not diminish the yearning inside to see that day fully avenged, even if it is just Mrs Greasy that will have to somehow try and understand why I keep banging on about it to her for a few hours/days/weeks ......or months :)

I was there too on that hateful, fateful day, a 16 year old on the Leppings Lane end.

All I can say is: thank you from the bottom of my heart, Mark Duffy, Leon Clarke, John Fleck, David Brooks, Chris Wilder and everyone else involved that magnificent late-September day (including Carloss, the Dolphin Killer, & all the priceless bouncing wazzocks) - the monkey is most definitely off the back, whatever happens on the 12th.
