Hello Blades, having returned from a grand day out at wemberly today I have seen that you appear to be signing Ricky Holmes. I think I predicted this on my first thread. Needless to say if he comes your getting a quality little player, who should have def been playing at a higher level in his career. Match winner and great football brain. My fav player and will be gutted if he leaves. I'm sure under Wilder he will perform for you guys. He only has one year left so you will bet getting a complete steal.

Losing Rose/Adams and possibly Holmes I'm dreading next season.

On another note, what sort of impression is Wilder making on you lot so far? He pleasing you with his attitude etc?

He was also a complete twat

Well no, he wasn't. He was a thoroughly decent guy. He also has a managerial record of which he can rightly be proud. It didn't work out for him with us but I see no need at all for the sort of vilification to which he is now subjected. The same thing happened to Nigel Clough who is no mug either.

But it's okay to insult and vilifie the only two managers who have actually brought us success in the last 30 years?

Completely agree.
Decent blokes who whatever anyone says did their best for the club.

In both cases, their best wasn't enough, and I have to say I am particularly disappointed with Adkins.
His record on paper was pretty good, although offset by the circumstances he went into Scunny and Saints. But even though I was very sceptical of him and was mindful of his awful mess at Reading he failed badly, and much more than I imagined possible.
Clough was a long term appointment, and should have been left to last season at least. But it's done.

Wilder has said all the right things, he's got fans believing so far. As always the test will be in the results, because us lot will be after him the minute we get beat by a side deemed unworthy of visiting the Lane. While there will of course be the odd fruit bat who hammers the club no matter what they do.
If we aren't slaying all before us by November, there will be trouble brewing.

Sad for Northampton fans though, been through hell, look to be finally getting somewhere and they lose their manager and probably their better players with it. All for it to possibly go tits up at United as well.....that's football I suppose.

Wilder is making a great impression with fans and a lot of his comments magically strike chords following the shambles under Adkins ( a thoroughly nice bloke I fully agree).

At the time the previous summer a lot of Adkins' carefully chosen magical words struck chords following the dour Clough era.

Thing is the straight speaking Wilder is much more likely to strike chords with players who will grasp clear messages and expect a bollocking if they don't try and do their bit. Much better than hearing your manager telling the fans and media that the players were working hard, all onside and "giving it a right go" when clearly they were not.

He's already shot right up in my estimation for erasing the poisonous legacy of the Clough era, which Adkins sadly failed to do.
Clough was basically Bryan Robson with a smaller drinks cabinet.

And from what I can gather, Wilder doesn't subscribe to the bullshit notion that tapping the ball sideways a million times equates to success.

100% so far. Very happy.

Yes ime on the same page as you woody,Adkins seemed a good fit at the time, but with hindsight I can see we needed a tougher personality in charge
everyone accepts Adkins is a nice fellow but in our position ,nice is not what we need.Words are cheap but Chris Wilder is making the right noises, long may it continue.

To do what. Sign an even bigger squad,?
To pay more ex-Clough players massive contracts?
To finish even more points off the autos than Adkins did ? (A little known FACT on here)
To sign every single player who will never get a better club, a better wage or a bigger transfer fee. (bar maybe one)
To have a non scoring midfield of epic unbalancedness.
To have a team a team of midgets who routinely were picked off at set plays.
To make do and mend for a whole season with no specialised centre backs.
Whose style of play was some of the most turgid in my long lifetime/
Clough had shown he was the worst recruiter in the clubs history, he showed this 30/40 times over. He couldn't be trusted with signings. He coudn't be trusted with transfer money or negotiating wages, he was just looking for an every expanding wages balloon and ignoring the constraints.
We went backwards massively when some of the better players that Clough inherited left ( Coady Maguire)
Imagine him managing then managing without Murphy and then Baxter.
His Murphy replacement was???
Can anyone seriously think that a team that had missed auto relegation/promotion equally by 20/21 points, was going to be anything than lower mid table.
We've just fucked off 10 off his failures, (with several more just hanging on barely by a thread) what bigger indictment do folks need?
I can't believe some blades STILL cant see the plain truth that his legacy of utter fuckery was on a proportionate scale much higher than Robsons.

Exactly. We've just binned FIFTEEN of his signings in one go, let alone what's gone before and still to come. We wont get a single penny for any of them.

How anyone can claim that this utterly disastrous transfer policy should have been allowed to continue, given the hindsight we now have, is ridiculous.

Not entirely sure Clough's cabinet was smaller and the distinct impression Wilder gives is that he loves a good night out. Quite right:D

be interesting to see if we do nick any Northampton players - read an interview with Alan Stubbs in Rovvrum advertiser at the weekend, saying said it would be morally wrong for him to nick that star striker from Hibs straight after leaving (though sort of implying it might be OK if he waits a while).

This was Clough's retainled list at 2015.
Jay McEveley, George Long, George Willis, Kieran Wallace, Ben Whiteman, Jamie McDonagh, Otis Khan, CJ Hamilton, Connor Dimaio, Joel Coustrain and Julian Banton. An offer has also been made to Diego De Girolamo
............and to the think love boys used to say he had an eye for a youngster and brought them on.
Reads more like a 'where are they now' or Noteam FC thread
Further evidence of a manager without a fecking clue.
