Those predictions are relatively optimistic and we still miss out. Sorry to smash the dream. Yesterday really seems like the one we'll be looking back on with regret in a few weeks.

Remaining 4 fixtures each together with my predicitions:

Derby v Burton .Away. 3 points, Boro Home 1 point, Cardiff H. 0 Barnsley H. 3 - 68 plus 7 = 75 points total.
Boro v B.City H 3, Derby A. 1, Millwall H. 3, Ipswich A. 3 - 66 plus 10 = 76 points
B.City v Boro A. 0, Hull H. 3, Forest A. 3. Us .H. 1 - 65 + 7 = 72 points.
Preston QPR .A. 1, Norwich H. 3, Us A. 0, Burton.H. 3 - 63 + 7 =70 points
Brentford. Fulham A. 1, QPR. H. 3, Barnsley A. 3, Hull H. 3 - 10 + 64= 74 points.
Millwall. Us A. 0, Fulham /H. 1, Boro A. 0, Villa H. 0.- 68 +1 = 69 points.
US v Millwall.H. 3, Brum A. 3, Preston H. 3, B.City A. 1 - 10 + 65 = 75 points.

The bad news is we miss out on Goal difference as ours is awful.

The good news is my record on Predictions this season is 38% correct:p:D:D

Result today compared with my forecasts above:

Derby minus 3 therefore now forecast at 72 points; Boro correct so 76 points ; BCity correct so 72 points; Preston plus 2 so 72 pointsl Brentford correct so 74 points, Millwall plus 1 so 70 points, US minus 2 so 73 points.

So it's Boro and Brentford with us in 7th place just missing out.

Agree Ricky. These are mine from another thread. BUT you'll only get 50% of your predictions right ( I'll get around 38% right!! ) at the most and only the odd correct score, if any.

That's the intrigue of football and anything can happen - and will !!.

I have no doubt that 3 wins from 3 will get us into the top 6; such a run would knock Preston out of the equation and I can't see 2 sides from Boro, Millwall and Derby, reaching 75 points when you factor in the games that they play against each other.

The problem is that we haven't won 3 on the bounce since October.

The inability to manage games, without Coutts, is what has cost us. Just in the past month we've failed to convert leads against Brentford, Cardiff, Barnsley and Millwall when in each case we were dominating against very ordinary looking opponents.

You've always got to look at the full season of course, but the last fortnight or so has killed our playoff hopes.

Games we performed well enough in generally to win, but failed with missed chances and the odd defensive lapse.

At least that shows we're not that far away with the right recruitment.

Bristol City equalise in injury time? Story of our season!

Yep, the last month alone has cost us. In fact it's not even that, it's the last couple of weeks. To have that mid season dip yet still have a chance on a plate in the last month only to fuck it up is incredibly frustrating. How on earth did we not win at least 2 of the games against Brentford, Cardiff, Barnsley and Millwall?

Another issue is that our goal difference is the worst of all the contenders. This effectively puts us a point behind the rest of the pack.

I’d like to see a caution to the wind side against brum. All out shit or bust attack that sees us either get a real hatful of goals or maybe lose due to being caught out at the back.

Nothing to lose, everything to win now

We can look back across the whole season at games where we should have got something and came away with a point or nothing because we struggle to maintain or deliver a 90 plus minute performance.

How often have we seen a fantastic performance one half that isn't built upon.

Even going back to Fulham at home. Mistakes cost us points that we are rueing now.

Not criticising Chris and the team, they have done really well in the 1st season back, but think what could have been!

As has been pointed out Sheffield United are a far better football team in terms of style than the like of Millwall, Preston and Cardiff we need to turn it into results next season.

We won't be in the playoffs because we won't win the next three games. We are currently struggling to win 2 in a row so I don't expect a late season miracle.

It’s over. Perhaps not mathematically but realistically it is.

The last minute goal at Barnsley and the goal yesterday leave us needing to win our remaining three games and rely on others dropping points twice. Can’t see it.

A lack of concentration in crucial moments of a few games will mean we end up with a good season and not a great one.

The league table doesn’t lie at the end of the season. We will be where we deserve to be.
Wolves are top because they’re the best team and the bottom three will all deserve to go down because they’re the three worst.
The biggest thing we’ve lacked in my opinion is streetsmarts to close out games. For all I hated it Norwich did that perfectly against us as have a few others this year. We have been a little naive at times and while no one can ever accuse us of being boring there was always a chance that our all out attack style would founder at some stage a la Keegan’s Newcastle team all those years ago.
It has been overall an enjoyable season and although unlikely we are still in with a punchers chance of the playoffs. Who in their right mind or not drunk would have predicted that in August?
My bigger worry is the offseason and what happens with the ownership question and how that may impact on Wilder. As soon as the final whistle goes at Bristol (or Wembley) we need to start getting some clarity there because our short to medium term future will be decided this June and July I believe. Until it is there are real dangers we will stagnate and Wilder, Blade or otherwise, is ambitious and won’t stick at a club that is headed in the wrong direction.

Good point on Coutts is the ball retention and game management. Without him we do struggle to see out games. His decision making is exemplary, he really is our Pirlo.

naah. we'll get seventh ;)

On that predictor thing that was bouncing around 'other day I had us beating everyone bar Preston, to whom we lose and us sneaking into 6th.

Yesterday's brainfart well and truly saw to that so now we just have to go for it, win all 3 and hope for the best.

I still think it will go to the wire but frustratingly we have made it as difficult for ourselves as possible.

I just hope that we keep Brizzle out of the playoffs, even if we don't make them. They are the complete opposite of us in terms of luck and Lee Johnson annoys me with his cheeky chappy hipster stylee and oversized tieknots.

Ok. post Millwall, here is how I see it.

Boro.
Beat Derby Millwall Ipswich. Finish 78 points. 5th place.
Preston.
Beat Norwich, draw Blades, beat Burton. Finish 73 points. Currently with a better goal difference. 6th place
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blades.
Beat Birmingham, Draw Preston, Beat Bristol. Finish 73 Points. 7th place.

Derby.
Lose to Boro, Lose to Cardiff. lose to Villa. Win against Barnsley. Finish 71 points. 8th place.

Bristol City.
Beat Hull, beat Forest, lose to Blades. Finish 71 points. 9th place.

Millwall.
Lose to Fulham, Lose to Boro, lose to Aston Villa. Finish 69pts. 10th place.

If we win all 3, we are there. Preston are the danger.
if we draw against Birmingham, then beat Preston and Bristol, we can still do it.

Get your tickets for Bristol!!

The failure to beat Barnsley is what has cost us. Had we won that game the draw against Millwall would have been fine.

Well, yeah. Both were ridiculous throwaways. But if we beat Millwall we'd be level on points with them.

Kind of agree with those predictions again Ricky, just think PNE might take a point off us and I think Boro will beat Millwall at home.

Last two games absolutely huge, have an incling that Bristol City will be out of it by then.

As we would had we beaten Barnsley.

Barnsley was a much more winnable fixture. They were in poor form and had not won at home since 4th November. Whereas Millwall have been in great form and haven't lost since the birth of Christ. Losing to Barnsley made the Millwall game more important and has devalued what would otherwise have been an acceptable result.

Agreed.

I just hope we can win at Birmingham and have all to play for against Preston cause I took the head staggers and today booked flights, hire car and accommodation for that weekend! Can't wait. COYRAWW

Having just done the predictor I have us in 5th going into the final day, before dropping to 8th at full-time. I also predict this site will implode shortly afterwards...

Can see Preston being a 0-0 game

Shite game away, shite game when we won 1-0 at home, it will be another shite game

Agree with this, you can't draw 1-1 in 3 games you completely dominated just recently if you're wanting to get in there. We need 3 wins now and honestly I can see Derby being the side to lose 2/3.

What? and let the JEC score. :) That would be quite painful.

Agree with the outcome of all of those except the Villa v Derby one - think thats a home win.
