I thought Dean Henderson was staying - or does he have to go back to Manchester until a deal is done?

Nothing's decided. Talks have happened between Wilder and the MU hierarchy, but there's still a way to go, and no doubt Henderson's success won't have gone unnoticed at Man Utd, so patience and the understanding that Wilder will be looking at other potential goalkeeping targets in case the pursuit of Henderson doesn't happen.

At minute I would say
GK if Hendo doesn't return
2 FBs if Freeman Leaves
2 back up CBs
CM
CAM
3 Strikers

GLTTL's, all of them. They all played a part in where we are now.

Special mention for Paul Coutts though. What a player he was in the 100 pts season, and again last season until that undisciplined, thuggish excuse for a player Sordell cut him down in his prime. Hopefully he finds a regular starting spot at a championship club, and gets back to somewhere near his best.

I agree with all those being released - Coutts not a surprise at all. Cranie maybe but he's not a Premier League player and we need better.

I expect likes of Lundstram, Freeman and Stearman will struggle to make the bench when we make additions and also could move on longer term but due to numbers leaving and how many we need to bring in they will stay around for now

With the number leaving and a 25 man squad it makes you realise how many we need

GKs- Henderson (you hope), ????, Moore (1)
WBs- Baldock, Freeman, Stevens, ????? - Maybe need two back ups right and left (2)
CBs- Basham, Egan, O'Connell, Stearman ????? - Might need another two here (2)
MFs - Fleck, Norwood, Lundstram, ????? - Need two more here probably aswell to cover (2)
AMs - Duffy, ????? - Need one more here for definite (1)
CFs - Sharp, McGoldrick, ?????? - Definitely need 2 maybe 3 if Clarke goes (2/3)

I have left out Bryan and Eastwood as not sure they will be part of the squad or close to it.....

9-10 players and that is excluding Henderson just to make a 25 man squad and we would need

Shows the task we still have

He may get away with bringing in maybe just one left wing back, one back up centre back and one back up centre midfield - the big money you expect to go on 2 strikers and a Duffy type

Might be wrong of course

Having watched the way Wilder and Knill work for a while, I think they will not have released players without having replacements in the wings. As I have said in another post, the PL is new to CWAK. In the past they have proved themselves fast learners. IMO, January will be the important window.

Wilder in the interview with Bettis goes more into the loans

“You never know what sort of interest they’ve had from other clubs....” Which would suggest that some of them might already have other deals lined up.

You need to have 25 players as per rules of premier league. 3 will be keepers

I do wonder if secretly Couttsy is done, like Hulse was. Be interesting to see how many games he can make from here on in

So Madine's going back to Cardiff I presume.

Happy for Ollie - third time lucky!

out of all that the only one's i would take issue with are
Crainie-----totally deserves a new deal. not put a single step wrong. Excellent cover at CB or even the RWB if needed. feel he has been hard done to there
Hendo-----never was ours in the first place and so no doubt they are back to square one and will attempt a renogatiated season loan again.

the rest are clearly clearing the decks and making salary room for the much needed quality to come in and provide strength and squad depth

Coutts--has been a sterling servant but just never got it back after the injury.
Jake Wright--how he must have enjoyed his time with us . His contribution should not be overlooked either

the rest--see ya !

As many have said on here, I am quite surprised at Martin Cranie being released, he seemed a really steady pair of hands.

I think Cranie could have been very good in the Premier League as well, especially from a defensive point of view.

Maybe it means that Wilder is confident/determined about getting someone who gives us more of what Basham does, i.e. enabling us to switch formations without making substitutions (by being able to play in midfield) and bombing forward even more.

No he isn’t, strictly speaking. They’ve been out since the final whistle at Stoke. The basic rules that our fans fail to grasp, eh?

The only reason I conceded is because they're still with the team, but yeah, you're right: their contribution to United on the pitch is over, unless we sign them permanently.

GK (maybe x2)
RCB
LCB
LWB
CM
CAM
ST x2 (maybe x3)

8-10 players

Yep, we were always going to need at least 8 new signings.

Nobody should be surprised.

Gutted about Coutts and Wright, even though I realise it's the correct decision. Cranie did well too, and I'm a little surprised he's not been given another year. Lafferty and Lavery played their part in that special season. Washington...well, he tried hard.

I think stears, lunny, Moore and freeman might also be available for the right price when we get players in. Depends on the budget and availability of players etc of course.

We had a .much smaller squad than every other team we played last season, can't see us wanting seven of eight less next season.......:)

All loan players go back unless it’s a ‘loan to buy’. Them’s the Rules. It’s no indication at all as to whether they’ll be signed or not. What makes people think we can keep other clubs’ players once the loan agreement has ended? There are multiple obvious reasons why that simply can’t happen, a career ending injury sustained at the ‘no longer loaning’ club being a glaring example.

If I've read right Dowell's three year deal with Everton runs out this summer, so we could pick him up for free.

I can fully understand the list. We already have Basham, O'Connell and Egan and I've no doubt Wilder will want to bring in at least one more centre back minimum. So it was a choice between Crainie or Stearman. Stearman is still under contract, Crainie isn't.

It might seem harsh on Crainie as he hasn't put a foot wrong, but someone has to go to free up funds for new players.

I'm sure a deal (loan or permanent), will be wrapped up for Henderson soon and I wouldn't at all be surprised if he's not our first signing of the summer.

The only reason I conceded is because they're still with the team, but yeah, you're right: their contribution to United on the pitch is over, unless we sign them permanently.

Precisely, yet it seems to be significant breaking news to some that the rules are taking effect.

Would Eastwood not count as he is from our academy? I thought there was a rule that players under a certain age from your academy don’t count towards the 25.

It is like clearing out the wardrobe.

Not easy to be ruthless, but sometimes necessary.

Sad to see a few trusty old garments go. Happy to get shot of those bad buys/mistakes.

The worry of finding replacements without breaking the bank. Deciding whether to push the boat out for something special from an expensive shop.

Wondering if all the new additions to the wardrobe will fit, and match the gear you keep.
