Money, united will want him to sign for peanuts ,if there keeping the african lads who he clearly does not want ! Just might be the road united are going down it's early doors yet like hopefully not !! .

To be fair to Danny Hall, a U-turn on Riedewald seems very possible considering the SCR rules were only agreed by clubs last week. As I commented above, those rules will significantly affect the shape of this summer for us, meaning we need to make huge cuts to the wage bill (something like halving it, depending on the level of income we can achieve from player sales). We won't be able to make those kind of savings just by releasing Tom Davies, Mee and Ings. We'll also have to move out a lot of players who we would rather have kept. We don't know yet who we'll actually be able to sell, or for how much.
So even if we had been planning to take up the option on Jairo before last week, backing away from committing to his wages for another year would now make financial sense under the new rules.

Jairo was very much a part of a very average team (when he managed to be fit enough to pull on the shirt). Shows how abject we are when losing such an average player has half the message board melting down.

That list of retained players over the age is 24 is fucking shocking, oh how the mighty fall. If we start next season with that shower of shit, we'll be no better than last season, just slower and any confidence that we're heading in a good direction will be straight down the shitter.

Hopefully I'm missing something and there's a lot more movement planned in the background but after Wilders comments about lots of ins and outs, that's beyond disappointing.

There's no obligation for us to do so and in our financial situation every player is available for transfer. The silver lining is that we are not in a desperate position so can hold out for proper valuations on our players.



Peck is top of the list. I doubt Oné will be sold unless someone offers us silly money (£15m+) and that's unlikely, even if he did do well at Lincoln.

Marsh has no value. He's a senior pro who's played 22 league games in his career, the highest of which was in the Scottish Premier League which is probably about L1 level overall.

It would be very interesting to know what price we'd accept for One. I think he's a player we'll definitely get bids for given he's a 'type' that PL clubs are after at the moment. Over a long period of time, we've consistently shown a willingness to cash in on young players before they've impacted our first team as a way of shorter-term impact squad building (or to sometimes to pay the bills). I think that's probably as much the harsh reality of where we are as a club than anything else.

I'm not sure we'd turn down £7m and I wouldn't be surprised if someone offers us that.

Callam O'hare was our best player 1st half of season by a country mile.

Jairo one is a bit strange. Seemed to help us turn it around when he came in.

But Wilder was also talking about having a smaller squad overall.

I guess in that central midfield it's expected we will have Arblaster, Rothwell and sort of O'Hare. With chances of Hamer or Peck remaining (Doubtful).
Reckon we will look to bring in another which may be Phillips on loan again.

Perhaps the thinking with releasing Jairo is to free up wages to offer Hamer a new deal? Can't see it though, think we will need to take the fee for him instead.

That central midfield area is looking honking. Peck will be sold, Arblaster hasn't looked anything like he did prior to his injury, then you've got Shackleton and Rothwell... Centre mids must be a priority, as without Souza, we were bullied there against most sides last season.

Centre mid absolutely has to be the top, top priority.

We were weak as piss and non-existent in there.

Second priority is firming up a good, dependable centre half pairing.

The absence of a spine in centre mid and at centre back is the very reason for the huge drop off in quality from last season to this, IMO.

It isn't good enough.

£7mill would be difficult to turn down especially with a sell on clause too, it depends on how that is broken down as if over 4 years for example its only £1.75 mill per season and I think we would need more than that to start to be in a position where we can bring players in. At the moment, with Davies (T), Mee, Ings and Riedewald going we are saving around £110,000 a week or about £5.7mill per year, we were sat on approx £28million a year for the salaries so that takes us down to around £22.3mill plus we have also offloaded the loans. The problem with that is it's not widely reported if the club that own the player actually are contributing to salaries, we know this was the case with Phillips but it wasn't certain on how much. Also an example Ogbene was on £25k a week but uncertain if Ipswich paid any of that and Ki-Jana Hoever was reported to be on around £30k a week. With the others it likely we were paying full fee as Djibril Soumaré we were probably paying the full whack as only on £2k a week along with Leo Hjelde on £5k a week and Tyler Bindon was on approx £15k a week with Forest. There is a potential saving of say £80,000 per week or about £4.1 million a year.

So between the 4 and the loanees we have a cost savings of potentially close on £10mill a year taking the wage bill to around £18mill, if we were offered £7mill we have to think about can we bring someone in that will do a job next season or the season after etc. Squad ratios are looking promising but with the sale of a player you don't get all of the cash income up front which basically means we are looking to find a player like him for under £2million on a 4 year contract or is there a player in development squad that can step up.

Riedewald was decent, always looked to be that defensive midfielder we needed. He did struggle for fitness at times with a mid term injury. Looked to be what we needed for this division for next season.

Phillips has a terrible injury record and as i said before, on his day, he's proven to be quality but those days are rarer.

If we can get a full season out of Phillips without too many injuries and suspensions, then its great, but i can't see it.

We most likely needed both Phillips and Riedewald because neither are consistently available. Surprised that we haven't retained Riedewald but i'm guessing that he'll get a better deal elsewhere and thats fair enough.

Might sound like a completely bonkers idea but is there a rule in place that requires us to have a manager/head coach as in theory we could have Wilder on the board of directors, with “back room staff” on the sidelines such as Knill but in the role as assistant coach or what happens with player managers?
