Premier league says a squad of 25

no room for sentiment - some of us want to stay in the prem after next season and that means tough calls, including some fans favourites.

CW is only doing what he said he would do - driving the club forward - he's doing just that.

simple question: do YOU want to be top dog in Sheffield for years to come?

The answer should be yes, so the ones who are going shouldn't really be a surprise.

They'll be gone, but some of them NEVER forgotten.

The OS doesn't mention Lundstram being transfer listed?

He's not

Following the conclusion of the Sky Bet Championship season, Chris Wilder has acted swiftly by announcing his retained list.

Paul Coutts, Martin Cranie, Conor Washington, Daniel Lafferty and Caolan Lavery will all leave Bramall Lane when their current deals expire this summer.

Leon Clarke, Jake Wright, Ched Evans, Samir Carruthers, Nathan Thomas, Ben Heneghan and Ricky Holmes have all been placed on the transfer list, despite still being under contract.

Meanwhile, Dean Henderson, Kieran Dowell, Scott Hogan, Gary Madine and Marvin Johnson will all return to their parent clubs following the completion of their loan deals.

Boss Wilder commented: "We have had a fantastic season and I've thanked the players for their contribution but attentions have quickly turned to what is set to be another exciting campaign."

I thought Dean Henderson was staying - or does he have to go back to Manchester until a deal is done?

Really surprised Freeman ain’t listed.

I suspect he will be one (probably the only one) where depending on recruitment we’ll be privately looking to move on. I fully expect us to strengthen in that area. Publicly there’s no harm listing all the other players as it’s been clear with their loans that they’ve been available for transfer.

Wilder might surprise me and just keep Freeman and Baldock to battle it out again, but I’d be surprised if that’s the case. We have other areas of the pitch that we need to strengthen first before that though tbh.

I know, Giddings tweeted otherwise.

Feel bad for Paul Coutts. Fabulous player in Wilder’s first 18 months at the club, a joy to watch. Hope he finds a good Championship club or better quickly. I would have kept him.

Thank you to Leon as well. Looks like his days are numbered but he will have takers. Instrumental in getting us out of L1 and I’ll never forget the four against Hull.

Honourable mention for Cranie who was an excellent short term signing.

As many have said on here, I am quite surprised at Martin Cranie being released, he seemed a really steady pair of hands.
Think of it as a possible stick to beat Pinchey with next Season

Always handy to have one ready ............

Cranie did well but he was used as back up in the Championship. We need to strengthen for the Premier League.

And he should have sung Blades songs last night, not Oasis.......

17 players down.... 8 of which were in and around the first team squad.

That's 8 straight away that we have to replace at the very least. Surprised 1 or 2 weren't retained, but Wilder has a lot more info available to him than we do. Perhaps he's already in advanced talks with numerous players/agents/clubs.

The only one I’m surprised at is Cranie, I thought he’d had a great season filling in when needed and never let us down. Coutts is a shame but it was obvious he wouldn’t get another deal. Good luck to the lot of them, once a Blade, always a Blade.

What madness is this?

I’m very sad about the Roller, but it was written in big letters when he wasn’t in the squad at Stoke. I just want to thank him for making us tick for two fantastic seasons. He was our beating heart. He never gave the ball away. A leader on and off the pitch and Tufty’s choice as vice-captain. We were top of the Championship the night he was injured. I ❤️ Couttsy.
Thanks for the proper football Paul. It’s been a delight and privilege to watch you play.

However there’s no room for sentiment. We’ll see some more big fan favourites not playing as much next season. Duffy and Sharp for two. I do hope people realise that and that we don’t have Bladey bleating, noise or nonsense about it.

The immutable fact is that it’s United that matter most, not individuals and we have to keep moving forward. If ever Couttsy, Leon, Jake or Cranie (deliberately in that order) come back with other clubs (in will be in the cup of course...) they should be cheered to the rooftops as Blades heroes.

Has Andy Giddings called it wrong by saying Lundstram is for sale? Official site doesn't mention him.

Must admit I was surprised to see Giddings mention him. His role towards the end of the season (ie. often being used ahead of Coutts) suggested he might well be in Wilder's squad plans for next year. Likely available at the right price, particularly if we bring another CM or two in, but right now he's decent cover. I've got no problem with that.

CW has got it spot on imo.

Not being in p offs has given us a months steal on those in them, for transfers.

He can also hopefully get new ones in ASAP, for full pre season with us.

I expect some to be announced before end of month, for June contract starts .

Wasn't coutts offered a deal but knowing it would mainly be off the bench. He may have decided he wants regular football. Gutted about crane and Wright though I knew Wright would be going.

I am absolutely amazed by the release of Cranie. To me he has been excellent , reliable , & never put a foot wrong. Such a shame as I think he would have been a very capable back up. Best of luck Martin , and thanks for being a vital part in our success.

Barnsley be good for him.

Coutsey, get knocking on Donnys door.
