One of the worst referees I have seen at Bramall Lane last night, Cooper, no way that was a penalty, the Southampton player made sure there was a slight knock into Cooper to fall over.Pleased that the penalty was missed. We should have had two penalties. That free kick with the referee taking one giant step and nine smaller steps. Siddie's goal should have counted, but for that wanker referee. Hope we dont get him again.

Peck’s goal was the right decision, their keeper could have caught the ball if Cannon didn’t have hold of him.

I think this shows a worrying sign for me.

There is no consistency to the level of games he's refereed.

L2, L1 and EC have all been ticked off.

It's suprised me that although the games are all the same 'Step' in the league pyramid, the difference between L2 football and EC in every way is massive.
I would have thought they would have had a EC top end L1 list of refs who get used for those games.

Unfortunately he was very poor, but the fact is, it looks like the quality of refereeing is getting worse.

Reasons for this IMO, there aren't enough referees (im not suprised with the crap they get at grass roots level) and with less numbers available, the referees that aren't as good are getting higher up the ladder.

This isn't just referees, its football in general.

Looking locally, the County Senior League used to be classed as a good standard of football several years ago, but i think its one of the lowest ranked Saturday afternoon leagues locally now.

A major problem with refereeing if you are a football fan is the way to progress up the ladder in this country tends to be through the county leagues through non league which eventually gives you the shout for EFL football. To encourage more referees into the adult football, they should move some of the fixtures they can to floodlit midweek leagues, Thursdays probably the best day or Saturday mornings although this might clash with junior footy so midweek might be better. With PL and other local investment I am sure you could have floodlights for a pitch for most leagues at a certain standard.

The worse one at the other end was when Tanganga got wiped out on a corner as the ball was recycled. Nailed on penalty with the ref and linesman both close enough to see it.
I was in the BLUT, happened right in front of (below) me.
Also later but on the other side of the goal, a S'ton player had a fist full of the back of a United player's shirt as he tried to get to the ball before it went over the line. Again nothing given.

You will never convince me that was a penalty. If anything he kicked the ball out and ran into the keeper as much as the keeper slid into him.
And the little grin stewart gave to the kop after shows he knew he played for it.

Blowing for Canons grab on the keeper was actually a good spot (canon just keeps getting worse and worse for us) but then he misses the 2 penalty shouts and the 10 yard incident - which is up there with the Villa ghost goal as mind boggling ineptitude.

This was a terrible decision. They went up the other end and got as soft a pen as you will see. And we get a goal disallowed for debatable holding. Very very poor ref.

That's an interesting collection of comments. Don't normally get involved with slagging off referees as I'd hate to be put in their position, but if they're not competent they shouldn't be doing it

It's either incompetence or there is something else going on.
