It was a dive. To be fair to Sky they called it right. The refs positioning was as shocking as it was all night. He guessed.

No excuse for the linesman looking directly at it with a good view though. Then again what is the point in linesmen these days? May as well scrap them. All they do is ins and outs and odd offside (which they don't even do that in the prem). & even ins & outs they wait for ref to signal which way.

On Pecks disallowed goal, he couldn't wait to disallow that. Could you imagine him disallowing that at Anfield if Liverpool had equalised with that same goal in the last minute? No, me neither.

Could u imagine him not giving the blatant push on haaland or salah as they was about to break into the box 1 v 1 or a blatant drag down wirh 2 hands around on van dyke. Could u imagine 85th min at city/ arsenal or Liverpool the ref doing 8 yards for wall then to recount and still only doing 8 at a blatantly. Could u imagine him giving penalty that Allison has pulled out of for the player to dive. Could you imagine him not booking opposition players against those teams for consistently kicking ball away.

That's not incompetence - although that shouldn't be an excuse at this level, it's cheating or soiling yourself when the bigger boys in the wall said no.

If they want consistency and accuracy a laser measure tool fits easily in the pocket.

I hope he wasn't bent but he was certainly incompetent. Watching the video of him counting out the steps, his final step was about half the length of the previous 7 - and even they had been short steps and only 8 in total!

If there is some sort investigation into events last night, I'll guarantee it will be looking at CW's behaviour and the refereeing will be ignored.

When he was originally marking it out, he allowed the Southampton wall to dictate where he drew his line, rather than moving them back. Then compounded it with his ridiculous pacing to “prove” his point, and didn’t make them stand behind it anyway!

The players pointed out that the cut of the grass is in 6 yard strips he placed the ball a yard out from the edge and the wall yard from the other edge 8 yards ,then did 8 steps .not sure how he could ever ref again .

That’s worse than I thought. How does the ref explain Ogbene going over I wonder? Presumably he thought it was a dive in which case he should’ve been booked.

Seriously, it's about time some of the refs in this league and the PL start getting reprimanded.

At the moment most refs seem to think they ref every game perfectly, including their officials some of whom seem to struggle to keep up with play and seem to just guess whether its offside or a foul.

Could this be a ploy to get VAR into the championship?

Yes I commented at the time ! The ref is a joke on us ! just where do they get them from .After the disallowed goal the free kick was taken at least ten yards forward than whre the supposed push took place !more or less on the goal line ! I think the ref had gone by then.

Debatable. He gives a dubious penalty.( Ok it was missed) He can't count to ten. He disallows a goal that we've all seen given numerous times. Mee yellow card. Ogbene fouled in front of his eyes.
He was incompetent at best. Way out of his depth at least.

For the pen, the ball is going away from the goal for one, as the Southampton player touches it to his left, heading out of play from the weight of the touch (which did happen).

Two, Cooper pulls out of challenge (Likely because he realised point number one). He turned his back to the player and ducks his head quickly to protect himself.

Three, Their player then topples over Cooper due to momentum and no where for either player to go. he then has no choice but to "dive" over Cooper almost in slow motion like it was half-assed. It doesn't make sense that Cooper thought "Alright I'll leave the ball and just go for the man instead" in the position he was in. Manufactured penalty (hence the various cries of "Cheat" from the Kop who saw straight through it)

I couldn’t understand why Hamer didn’t move the ball back. Would have been a better position to get it over and down . That said, the “highly qualified professional referee destined for the EPL and beyond” would no doubt have booked him.
