If there were to be any truth in it at all, I honestly wouldn't mind them taking over the club because I think Mr McCabe would only consider relinquishing his shares to someone in better financial strength and with higher capability of taking the club forward and able to turn the club into an established premiership outfit within a shorter period of time. Plus they're not an American based company so hypothetically speaking, they should be better at accounting and with the tonnes of money they'd presumably bring in, it could only benefit the club.

The downside of it would be, it would mean that the club would fall into the hands of a corporate entity whose motives would be to widen their brand/business empire rather than being in the hands of a genuine Blade or a group of Blades.

Agreed! and Red Bull tastes better than Gatorade anyway

Well as a fan of F1 they have worked wonders there, turning the old Jaguar team into Championship contenders. While it has enhanced their branding they have improved the team massively during their time there.

i completely agree, and tbh i really hope this does happen, although, as many have suggested, i wouldnt like them changing kit, badge, name etc.

I heard this rumour in the summer from a pretty trusted source close to the club, so either its being talked about again, or there might be something in it..?

There is a great article in this month's When Saturday Comes about Red Bull's latest venture in Germany. Unfortunately, there is no link to the article as it's not online yet, so I will try and give you the overview.

Leipzig had two former powerhouses of East German football based there, Sachsen Leipzig and Lokomotiv Leipzig. Both had fallen on hard times and were sat in the fifth tier of German football. Along come Red Bull who take over a fifth tier, regional team from just outside Leipzig for a six figure sum and re-branded them RB Leipzig (not allowed to use Red Bull and claimed that RB stood for Rasen Ballsport - "Lawn Ball Sport"). The local FA did not like their new badge (too similar to the corporate logo) and the club colours were changed the club colours to the corporate red and white.

The owner of Red Bull (Dietrich Mateschitz) then bought the naming rights to the new stadium built in Leipzig for the World Cup, with the intention of RB Leipzig playing in the Red Bull Arena if they get promoted to the fourth tier. There is a 5-8 year plan of reaching the Bundesliga, with up to 100m euros to invest in achieving it.

Although they have been less heavy handed than in the takeover of Salzburg, they have still taken over Sachsen Leipzig's academies. Local feeling is strong with weedkiller poured on the pitch and a wooden cross erected saying "Football is dying here", players being spat at and attacked with bottles at away games. It's a bit like the initial feeling towards MK Dons in England, but only a great deal stronger.

Support is still low, 2000 fans of the 11,000 supported RB against Lokomotiv, but they remain top of the table.

The article ends speculating where the RB marketing roadshow will end up next, however suggests that it is unlikely to be England. Although England was one of five countries considered pre Leipzig, but post NY and Salzburg, Germany was chosen and the RB Leipzig chairman suggested that it was now laid to rest.

Interesting stuff, although starting at a much lower level and on a smaller scale. I know I want the best for the Blades, but it is not at all costs and not to be achieved in a "No one likes us, we don't care" manner like RB seem to push.

just think of the stink this would cause, if we went to Salzburg in the Europa Cup semi-final first leg, and they lay down and gave us the result - or vice versa (at the owners behest), is this not in a similar boat to the third party ownership, loan players not playing against parent clubs etc
we would get nailed by every football authority in the world, you can almost hear the FA rubbing their grubby little hands together over that

though i do fully admit this being a moot point, considering that we are never in my lifetime going to make it to Europe!!

I think the ruling only applies to an individual country but I'm not too sure. Although looking at both Red Bull teams in F1 they seem to let them compete freely.
