I would guess that means LJF and Higginbotham are to be released and Williams told to find a new club, with Hill first choice; although in my opinion Hill should be playing centre back, maybe as a replacement for Collins?

From what I've been told about Jasper Johns he's definitely more use either on the left wing or centre midfield so I reckon LJF will be released with Hill and A N Other as our left back options, Higginbotham as a centre half option unless we have a crisis at left back.

That would leave us with McMahon, Westlake and Hodder (who won't be ready yet) to cover the right, Collins, Maguire, Higginbotham, Hill and possibly Kennedy (possibly covering right back too) and Barry as centre halves and maybe Grainger, Hill, Higginbotham and Johns as a last resort for left back.

The defence doesn't worry me particularly, departures not withstanding. They're good enough to keep hold of most leads our attacking managers to conjure up, assuming there are any.

Can't understand why some are wanting to bin Collins off, had a decent season again last year and won a number of supporter's player of the season awards. He had a couple of bad games when Maguire was out but that pair together are a decent partnership in central defence.

As for signings wasn't Duffy the Scunny winger out of contract this season. Him on one wing and McFadzean on the other should give us some decent width.

SUFC Handsworth I'm not advocating "binning off" Collins. I just wonder whether we could better invest one of the highest salaries at the Club elsewhere in the team.

How much do you think Collins will be on? We signed him in the second half of the relegation season on the cheap so can't see him being on that much.

Of course if we can pick up someone who is better than Collins fair enough, but I'd be more than happy with a defence of McMahon-Magquire-Collins-Hill for the duration of next season. For me priority signings would be in central midfield, up front and on the wing.

There seem to be lots of young players being released by other clubs and we will miss the boat if we do not act soon. I would invite a few for trial, Morgan and Unsworth can give them the once over until a new manager is appointed, hopefully in the next week.

I have a feeling we're going to end up signing another Everton player on loan who played in that game, because Hallam Hope is due a loan spell somewhere...
