Ramsdale--our worst signing ever?

Right now he is making better saves than Dean Henderson did last season. Ramsdale got his mojo back, the fans are all now behind him and he’s definitely showing why he's England U21. Great to see him back where he belongs and enjoying it. We’ve not had high quality long term keeper since Paddy Kenny.

He's improved massively and now looks like a premier league Goalkeeper but if we can get the fee we paid for him I would take it and invest in other areas of the team

He can easily be replaced with an experienced keeper for a much lower sum

absolutely loving the confidence. Please be here next season!

Id say he is worth more now. Also, if we want promotion we can’t afford to lose him.

If we need cash, we cash in on Berge.

Just to be clear, you'd accept any bid over £13M because we can replace him with an older replacement for less?

Talk about short term-ism.
Who are you thinking of bringing in for less who is at the Premier league goalkeeper level you described?
Do you think an experienced mid age keeper will come for what we're paying Rammers, if not that additional cost needs to be factored in?
You've then got to replace that keeper in a couple of years time.

Rammers is just 23, as in his birthday was last week. He's got at least 10 years at the highest level in front of him and he's only going to get better and you'd move him on for peanuts for the sake of releasing a couple of million for a rebuild?

Yes he's not the finished article right not, but if we can get back up and he stays with us he would have been an absolute bargain.

Ramsdale cost 8 million ,rising to 17 when he captains England to the World cup win in 2026.
£8m might have been the first payment but we're definitely paying at least £13.5m for him. Source: Bournemouth CEO's comments on the release of their 19/20 accounts.

Best bit of an impressive performance was him castigating Egan and particularly Basham for leaving Willock to ghost into the area unnoticed. Love that.

FWIW earlier in the season I guarantee you someone would have questioned him not saving Willock's header back across him (cf Konsa at Villa and Twatrick Bamford at home). I'm glad he's earned the credit with those posters that sometimes there are relatively slow shots that are still impossible to save.

On the basis of what I have seen since January, if I was running the club Ramsdale would be the one player in the squad who I would not be interested in selling for anything but silly money. He's a good bet to be excellent next season.

The signs are that he has the makings of an excellent keeper, and that he has the potential to develop a great relationship with the fans. In other words, another Henderson, but ours this time. The crowd will perhaps have a role to play in helping him with his one potential weakness- the lack of confidence we saw earlier in the season. The last thing he will need is being jeered at for making a mistake.

My call at the time of his signing is I thought he was at the same level as Hendo was when he arrived given the fact he's not been behind the defence he had.
My hope was that behind JoC, Egan and Bash for a season he would have caught up to where Hendo had left us for next year.
What he was served was a plate full of shite. Trying to establish himself behind a constantly changing and mentally broken defence that had entirely lost its belief, and he was expected to thrive in that environment. To begin with that hugely affected him, his confidence took a battering, he wasn't assertive and everything went wrong.
But to his huge credit, he never lost belief. He actually came out of it and pulled the other more experienced players through and has gotten himself to a position where he pulls off at least one top class save each game to keep us in matches.
If nothing else, that mental toughness is worth £13M to have it in our dressing room. He's the type of player we need to rebuild with, and he has the ability to play at the level we want to be at. The only concern is if we don't get there next season then he'll be playing well below himself so will need to look to leave us again.
He should be the foundation from which we build.

Nah, he was spot on at the time. Ramsdale had an awful first half of the season, and a better second half of the season. Still don't think he's worth 20 million though.

I know Ramsdale was a bit shaky in those first few months, but the entire team was absolute shite.

It’s outrageous to suggest that the Wednesday fan pretending he’s a dinosaur was ‘spot on’ about hyperbolically damning Ramsdale as our ‘worst signing ever’.

I know you’re one of the more negative posters on here but come off it.

I reckon £20m for Berge and £20 for Ramsdale and that’s the £40m we needed to recoup in player sales sorted.

Should allow us to hold on to Egan and Jebbison.

Berge wont be a big miss but we will need to sign a Competent Championship level keeper as Fodders ain’t good enough To step up.

That is just what I said 4 or 5 months ago mate and I got slated for saying it. The worst thing you can do to a goalie is slag him off.It ruins his confidence ,may be it has helped him playing with no fans because we have a few that would have given him hell which he could really do without.

I've genuinely no idea why we would accept £20M for Berge. That would be a total joke, and just isn't going to happen.

Would be lucky to keep hold of him but I think that depends on who comes in for him, who takes over as manager and what players we retain.

Lots of ifs and but. What he wont want is a move to a newly promoted or struggling PL team in risk of getting relegated.

It is to be hoped he is aware of that last point. Henderson had everything going for him, plus a number of successful loans with promotions, etc. Ramsdale runs the risk of going to a PL club, and either being involved in yet another relegation battle, or signing for a bigger club and at best getting a few games in the League Cup. There are only 20 PL goalie places available, and some are reserved for those who are skilled with their feet. I don’t think any of us see him in that role yet.

I am not sure what people have seen in Berge to say he’s worth even the £20m we paid for him. The game at this level looks just too quick for him. If we get our money back on him I would be more than satisfied.

Does the rumoured release clause or even the amount (again rumoured) to have been offered not make you think your view of the market is certainly skewed?
You'd be giving him away simply because you don't rate him, rather than for what his market value is.

A season in the Championship may be just what Berge needs to bed into the game in England. Infract it maybe just the ticket for all our new players including the youngsters ...

No way, we should definitely keep him. He's only going to get even better and could be our keeper for the next 10 years. He deserves to play in front of a packed lane, imagine the reception he'd get on his current form.

Just for the record, I loved Ramsdale’s honesty when he was going through his tough spell. His interviews on the mental side of the game and life are really impressive for a young kid.

Plus, his form since Christmas has been as good as, or better, than any keeper in the league. Including the lad between Man U’s sticks.

Enjoy him while he’s ours.

With Rammers, it might just follow that he could be CW's first signing at his new club for an offer we can't refuse ;)

As with Berge, there is more than likely a buy out clause inserted into his contract.

Can't see Rammers wanting to play in league one.
