Ramsdale--our worst signing ever?

People can't wait to stick the boot in. It never ceases to amaze me the knee jerk reactions some people display when good players are either out of form or lacking confidence. This really gets highlighted more as a goalkeeper. Ramsdale was clearly a very good keeper when we signed him. He then had a period of really poor form and he lost his confidence. It was just a case of him regaining confidence and form. This is something particular to goalkeepers and even the best have suffered with it. This is all down to his young age and inexperience.

I'm going to agree and disagree with you.

Absolutely spot on the fact he is a quality goalkeeper and the stick he received was totally unfounded; as the goalie you are the last resort and those without a good knowledge of the game are easily manipulated into blaming the man between the sticks. Goalkeeping is a confidence think especially coming for crosses and playing sweeper, saves are more natural but positioning is everything.

I disagree that he was in a 'period of really poor form'. I think his confidence was a little low (whose wouldn't be) and I can recall maybe one or two goals where he could have done better and will have expected to do better, but no Henderson type gaffs to speak of. The defence in front of him was terrible, facing 50% more shots than DH last season and from more 'scorable' positions so on a hiding to nothing from those who don't understand the position.

Anyhow, a great signing, found his feet, found his confidence and looking worth the money.

UTB.

You’ve not seen Messi play? I’ve seen him plenty of times. I saw him score in their game against Celta Vigo yesterday.

Shall we just assume you’ve no idea what you’re talking about with Verrips and move on?

Wow you were in Barcelona last night? So jealous, I worked there a few years ago. I've only seen him play once:

It's been reported that Verrips has played well. Why you feel the need to doubt that I don't know?

Didn’t say I was in Barcelona did I? I have a television and an internet connection and because of this I’ve seen Messi play several times this season. I’ve not seen Verrips play once though, so like yourself I’ve no idea how well he’s been playing or whether or not he’d be good enough as our number 1 next season.

By that logic you won't have any idea how well the Battle of Hastings went?

I don't even think it was that. Everything at the time of the signing was an 'assumed fee'.

He's been much better value for money than Berge and some people reckon Berge is going for £35m.
He knows, he's winding you up.

Sorry Barn, but once you get into stringing someone along a third time it becomes a blood sport.

For once I agree with you, but to be fair given some of the historical metaphors you've put out there, I wouldn't be convinced that you'd know with any real degree of certainty.

Brooks money, sell on clause discount, appearance money, survival money. I expect that the deal might have a cap at £18m ish but no one really knows.
Bournemouth reported £51m profit on three player sales after the end of their financial year. Those were Callam Wilson, Nathan Aké and Ramsdale; netting the profits on the other two left about £12.5m profit on selling Ramsdale meaning we paid about £13.5m. I guess that would be £18m to anyone else with our 25% sell on but the bottom line is that Ramsdale didn't cost us anywhere near £20m.

Yes, I have quite a selection now:

Charge of the Light Brigade
Scorched Earth Policy
Battle of Hastings

Must think of a few more to use. I suppose 'A Bridge too Far' might work to describe this season?

Not seeing the similarity to Market Garden aside from just the title of the film, which could be apt for The Wilder Years.
At least we made it over the Rhine for a season.

Just shows the importance of confidence for a goalkeeper, reminds me of when it seemed like Kepa from Chelsea was conceding every single shot that went against him last season. Hopefully Rammers continues to build through to season end and into next year. Everton's xG was 1.6 yesterday!

It's great to see Rammers getting the plaudits he deservers .I got shot down in flames when i stuck up for the lad earlier in the season ,its so nice to be proved right. The lad was superb last night and has been for a few weeks now.

Hi. Chansiri’s son here.

I’ve noted this post and our recruitment team will be in touch with an offer shortly.
Hold on i am 49 years old overweight, unfit and who drinks far too much. What makes you think I am going to lower my standards and sign for that shower of shit?
