Ramsdale--our worst signing ever?

I’ve watched Verrips in a quite a few games and whilst he’s done fairly well he isn’t in the same league as Ramsdale, Rammers is head and shoulders the better keeper.

Since Verrips signed, their form has picked up remarkably. Whether that is a direct result of his performances, I have absolutely no idea.

They were rock bottom with no wins in 24

In the 14 he's played, they've won 7, drawn 3, lost 4

With respect, that’s an extremely simplistic way of looking at things and doesn’t at all take into account the many, many different things that could have had an effect on the stats that you provide.

The best way to have judged Verrips’ performance in those games is to have actually seen his performances.

Would love to have Rammers and Verrips battle it out next season. The likelihood of this happening is slim... also dreading the worst case scenario, sell both and go with fods, moore or buy someone in.

We should hold out for £30m+ if rammers has to be sold

By your logic no-one could say Messi has had a good season as none of us will have seen him play?

He’s come on leaps and bounds, pickford was sold for 30 mil by a relegated team - surely ramsdale is worth a similar fee now?

Rammers has proves himself to be a very capable keeper.

We should just be pleased with that.

I don't quite get the 'told you so' nature in general of any criticism because when he was getting criticized he was playing crap.

I guess it does however prove the mantra form is temporary, class is permanent and hopefully he will not revisit those shaky moments from his earlier months and he can be our keeper for a number of years.

He's worth a few points a season Rammers now on his 2021 displays.

Verrips still doing well at Emmen. Took a couple of 4-0 beatings vs Ajax and Groningen but bounced back well to beat Heerenveen 3-1 then kept a clean sheet vs relegstion club VVV. They are now in the end of season play offs. They enter at the second round and face NAC Breda. Winner takes on the victor of NEC and Rosa. Both game take place in Friday. He's done well there. They were dead and buried when he arrived and he's made a difference.

I was half thinking he could rock up at our sister club but isn't the goalie the captain there?

Hello, Stegosaurus, here.

Is Ramsdale our worst signing ever?

18 million for a goalie who cant deal woth crosses, continuously looks a bag of nerves and, worryingly, can't dive. He just flops to the ground. If a shot is remotely towards the corner, its in. Ill grant him, his reactions are good if the shot is near him. But, he's pretty useless.

18 million. That makes him, I believe, in the top 20 most expenaive goalies of all time. Bournemouth had Wilder's pants down with this one.

For me, given the cost and the fact we needed that money to strengthen in other areas has to put him as our worst ever signing.

Shows how much you know.

As I said in my second sentence, I don't know, I'm just going on stats available.

I thinking back to when we first signed Moore though. He instantly improved us when he took over from Long.

That wasn't hard at the time to be fair, I mean, we could've jammed a scaff board in the ground and not had it any worse.
Rammers has confidence again, hes been a shining light this past few months, let's just hope he carries on improving, he will easy be best keeper in the champ next season.

Hi, Stegosaurus here

He was tosh in the first half of the season.

I'll revise it to Brewster. Ramsdale is looking decent now
So you were wrong on Rammers. We will all look forward to you being similarly wrong on Brewster, at which point we will mark you down as the most wrong poster in our history.

Nah, he was spot on at the time. Ramsdale had an awful first half of the season, and a better second half of the season. Still don't think he's worth 20 million though.

I don't imagine he will be in the Championship next season

Wrong. Rammers has proved beyond doubt that he wasn’t our worst signing ever, which I believe was the OP’s position.

Hi Stegosaurus here

Bit embarassing for us, paying 24 million for someone who isnt as good as Jordan Rhodes
Brewster is at the start of his career. You can’t compare him to some one who’s used to playing on front of 60,000 at sty and constantly signing autographs for Neymar to hang on his wall

Hi, Stegosaurus here

I was right at the time, but he improved.

Brewster hasnt improved. He's still wank. Nor has he shown any sign of improving.

You’ve not seen Messi play? I’ve seen him plenty of times. I saw him score in their game against Celta Vigo yesterday.

Shall we just assume you’ve no idea what you’re talking about with Verrips and move on?

Alright, £18m. Still not worth the money so far on balance
I don't even think it was that. Everything at the time of the signing was an 'assumed fee'.

He's been much better value for money than Berge and some people reckon Berge is going for £35m.

Didn't sum of the fee include the rest of the money owed for Brooks?

Unto Ramsdale, hes done really well in the second half of the season.
So.much so that I was worried we could have lost him. We still could!

If not for Covid I could have imagined a scenario were one of the bigger teams signed him and then loaned him out to further aid his development. This could still happen of course but Covid may hurt the cashflow of some teams.

Brooks money, sell on clause discount, appearance money, survival money. I expect that the deal might have a cap at £18m ish but no one really knows.
