It's him or Johnstone, so on league performance it's Ramsdale, conceded 11 fewer, but Johnstone has the advantage of being picked before, and having a higher saves per expected goals number, but both have a higher +/- than Henderson if I can read properly so I don't know how much you can read into that.

Ramsdale is one for the future though with Henderson, whereas Johnstone is of a similar age to Pickford so for the future of the squad, maybe it's better to pick the younger player?

Southgate is bananas though, so fuck knows.

Many of the people who doubted him were watching him unable to catch and have no idea when or how to come off his line.

Being a fan entails supporting players publicly and being happy for them when they turn it around.

But we’re entitled to criticise in private and he was rubbish at the start of the season. An improvement and inclusion in a provisional England squad doesn’t change that in my view.

You have to admire Ramsdales mentality as he wasn’t playing well and turned it around, it’s too easy to be shit all of the time and not pull yourself back up tbh he’s the more inform keeper out of the 4 as Hendo keeps making mistakes albeit Man Utd players are always under the microscope.

I suspect that if all stay fit Johnstone will go to euros ahead of him. I think he's in front on the pecking order. Johnstone is also a good keeper. In fact he played a pretty well against us in the away game although our finishing was just............

But it's a great step for him. He's a more confident keeper these days and it shows. (Funny how confidence does that. Just bear that in mind for all of the squad really. Many of them aren't high in confidence right now.)
In the long run I expect Henderson will become the first choice keeper. However international goalkeeping spots can change year on year. Ramsdale if he continues to improve and progress in years to come could find himself in and out of the national team too, but who knows.

Tell you what though. That's Ramsdale, Maguire, Walker and Calvert Lewin from our academy in the national team-ish. That's not bad.

We can't exactly claim them, but also really pleased to see former Blades Connor Coady & Dean Henderson in there. Two of our best loanees in recent years who we provided a really good kick-start in their professional careers.

It's been a joy to watch Ramsdale grow into the shirt. He's got a spring in his step & looks like he believes far more in himself. I was critical of him at the beginning of the season, & I'm sure he was his own biggest critic back then, but he's shown great mental resilience to push through. I now really hope we can keep hold of him.

I agree, Dean Henderson is more likely to be the England no.1 long-term. He has the physical & mental attributes to go right to the very top, but there's no reason why Ramsdale can't challenge.

Except that a lot of his critics weren’t saying “Ramsdale’s not playing well,” they were saying “Ramsdale’s shit.” Some (present company not excepted) jumped to that conclusion after he’d played just a handful of games. So they weren’t right at the time either.

Since xmas rammers has been the better goalie than henderson who gets beat at his near post often and drops bollocks quiet a bit
As demonstrated last week against Liverpool.
Dont understand that pundits say his absence is the reason we are struggling but in truth it is because the defence was so good last year he didnt have a lot to do.
It just spreads by word of mouth he is brilliant by people who have sometimes never seen him play.

If so then whatever there was based on staying up or winning something is staying with us.

But I guess some will be based on appearances, which, given he's been ever present in the league, he must be making good headway on.

Yeah football is dominated by narratives regardless of what the truth actually is. Johnston has a much more positive reputation despite statistically having a very similar season to ramsdale and that’s because West Brom were expected to finish where they did.

I think there’s a general distain for objective stats based coverage though unfortunately and sports journalism is click based although less so at the athletic which is obviously subscription based.

Or, you just don't write people off when confidence is clearly low. You watch their core skills and work out if they're just useless or if something else is going on.
With Rammers it was obvious he had the ability, he'd displayed it previously in this league at this level and you don't lose that, you just lose confidence.
Others couldn't see it and refused to listen to confidence and the situation we were expecting him to shine in. That's up to them, however I don't think it's then unfair to point out how short sighted they were. Some think Rammers dives funny, doesn't take the ball right, can't catch, always palms the ball back into play. Those were all comments put out there, some by you, and they are open to be challenged if they're proven to be nonsense. Don't then cry about it and flounce about because of "how it works here".
Brewster will come good for all the same reasons. There was clearly some weight lifted from his shoulders when he got the reception he did on Sunday and he was putting himself about, which I know is the bare minimum but he looked OK. He comes back after the summer and get some early goals and you will get the same comments being challenged.
