The worry is the spend, as we are all not sure if the Yanks are playing at it yet and brasic? Time will tell, but if it doesn't work and they are low on finances, then there could be the old fire sale next season to plug the reduced parachute payment (this has already been loaned against though, hasn't it?) and spending right now, who knows?

Based on the players we've been linked to/signed so far it seems they've binned off the AI crap quite quickly.

👏

Surely, in any sensible plan, the AI has to be for the long term?

AI, or old school 'my real eyes', you don't buy a yound lad from thousands of miles away and chuck him straight in the team.

I think the difference is, that an air of panic has set in, given our lleague position. There is no way that anyone will convince me, that Ings and Redmond were serious pre season candidates for recruitment.

They obviously made the mistake that they could do it in one step instead of gradually over a few years…. Now they are panicking.

To be honest, maybe getting them panicking is no bad thing.

They probably thought that this soccer lark, ain't so hard. Just get rid of the old timer Limey, get a cool foreign dude in, and promotion is as sure as mama's apple pie.

If the start to this season shits them up and they realise that it's not quite the breeze they first assumed, then all the better.

It should accelerate the off-pitch recruitment in the coming months, they won't want another window playing out like this

I'm more inclined to think (hope) that AI is used to buy young prospects to sell on at a profit at a later date to fund the club, and we actually use our normal network to buy players we instantly need.

CO H are currently showing themselves to be clueless.
They saw what was happening last season with an experienced ( but sometimes erratic) man at the helm. So they bought into it hoping for the best.
We failed at the final hurdle.
So in their infinate wisdom they sacked the experienced guy and brought in a young forward thinking guy with new ideas.
They are now finding out that youth and vigour is no match for age and experience.
It won't end well!

It's funny isn't it, that those of us who've been saying this all along, are no longer being accused of being 'bedwetters'.

Our foorball hipsters, who three weeks ago were explaining why RS was the best thing since sliced bread, have gone very quiet.

I still don't believe it that Bettis hasn't even come out and said anything about owt, probably sat in his office reading back issues of Razzler lol

Agreed you cant even make a point without being accused of being a bedwetter

Unfortunately, it slid into a pro v anti Wilder issue, peppered with ‘dinosaur’ cliches and personality preferences. If the focus had simply been, ‘Who gives us the best chance of winning Championship football games?’ the known evidence becomes overwhelming.

COH clearly have some smart people. Let’s hope they are quick learners.

Remember when football seasons went past September and all way to the following may

Yes, I can remember a lot of those.

Remember when you knew the bloke in charge simply isn't up to it and it's only going one way? Take your pick from Martin Peters, Billy McEwan, David Weir and Nigel Adkins.

Did you decide they were not up to it a couple of hours before they were appointed as well ?

Martin Peters - I was too young and too daft, so it took a few months before I realised how shit we really were.
Billy McEwan - Seemed a cheap and poorly thought out appoiment, but I stuck with it and went away a lot that season.
David Weir - I was impressed by the way he spoke and the work he'd done at the Everton academy. I've learnt a lesson from that, he was wedded to one system, completely unsuitable for the league we were in, and the players we had. Sound familiar?
Nigel Adkins - He'd done really well at Scunthorpe and Southampton and I really wanted it to work, but the alarm bells were there from his time at Reading

Selles - I've made it clear that his time at Reading (a division below) was impressive, but aside from winning 3-0 at the Lane, he was lucky at Hull to keep them up on the last day. I said it was a poor appointment, but was prepared to warch and back him. It tool about 70 minutes, when he'd taken both wingers off, and replaced them with McCallum, that I had very serious doubts. It didn't help that the hipsrers on here were creaming themselves, as to how he'd reinvented football, after a couple of friendly wins.

Is that enough for you, or do you need my inside leg measurement?

My main worry is knitting together a shit load of very new players, with a bunch of mostly younger lads who've been here a while. I think you'd need a manager with a very strong personality. Dare I say it....a Warnock type? Someone of experience of building trust quickly.

Selles doesn't strike me as that sort, but he's got plenty of time, it not like the first game is tom...oh fuck.

I still don't believe it that Bettis hasn't even come out and said anything about owt, probably sat in his office reading back issues of Razzler lol
What a surprise YES man Bettis 😭. He should have stood up for Wilder big time but was more interested in keeping his bosses happy.

As has already been pointed out in other threads, the 'AI crap' is a part of the approach to recruitment. I don't think anyone from the club has come out and said 'we're only identifying players through AI models now, full stop'.

Having a blended approach, using data, like many clubs are already doing, seems pretty sensible.

For thr first 2months of the pre season they definitely were buying with AI and putting them into the first team, though...

Few bad results and suddenly thats stopped.

Definitely agree with AI to identify youth prospects that would benefit from getting into a better quality coaching setup early, I think the mistake the board (or Bord) has made is the assumption these players can go straight into a championship team. There needs to be a balance.

Yes, and now they are buying more experienced players, I.e. a blended approach. I'm sure in future we'll buy data led players, probably more on the development side, and also more experienced players. It's not one or the other.

It should have been the other way round for me, we wouldn't be sat here with nil on the board after 3 weeks..

They got it wrong.

But I think they are learning now and rectifying it.

Yeah, the timing hasn't been good, particularly as some we've brought in appear to be ones we could've got in earlier, unless they weren't first choices and we've now decided we can't afford to wait, which is probably the right call.
