Quinn wants out

He had an excellent spell once his evil twin brother Elpiton released him from being chained up in the attic. That twin brother, however, was alive and appalling for the greater part of the season.

I was, and am, delighted to acknowledge his improvement but for more than half of the season Quinn was truly dreadful. Let's not rewrite history.

Do they do 'Player of Part of the Year' awards?

I would much prefer to move on The Maestro [Premier League clubs are laying siege to Shireclffe as we speak] and would be content for Quinn to stay. But let's not get carried away. This is not Jones, Currie or Deane.

I think he understood that he had to take more responsibility as we were struggling so much, and agree that some other players didn't.

Regardless of that, I think he may be one of the big earners that other clubs actually want, which means he'll go. We do have options in central midfield. If Williamson stays, and stays fit, I think he and McAllister is worth a go next season. Then we have Harriott, Løkberg and Conneely, who'll be aiming for a spot as well.

Can't believe how may negative words are getting said about Quinny on here - absolutely sums up how much some have grown apathetic or even self-critical of all things SUFC...

If any one player deserves any credit what so ever for their performances last season its Quinn - don't get me wrong I have, prior to last season, been ultra critical of Quinny, not least because at times it was so fustrating to see a player with clear ability but not achieving his potential. However, last season he completely transformed not only mine, but many peoples opinion of him. Some may argue that he was simply the best of a bad bunch, but in reality i think he finally found his "role" and developed a footballing maturity last season.

People forget that Squinny is still quite a young footballer, and consistency and development (expecially for midfield players) tend to come in the mid-20's, exactly as we've seen with him.

Not only the technique aspect, but he was the ONLY player who i would consider did a proffessional job last year, and the ONLY player who played like he gave a damn, and similarly the ONE player who looked absolutely devestated after every game lost and as the inevitable relegation was confirmed. He was also one of only a few players to continuously have the balls to come and applaud the fans after every one of those games, whether the result was good or bad, and the first to come and show his appreciation to the Blades' support as we sang our hearts at the point of relegation.

He is one of only maybe 3 or 4 players (Morgs, Monty, Kozzy and him) who I think deep down, really hurt following last season, and didn't just say they were gutted when really they don't give too much thought to it other than hoping they still get to cash their oversized cheques at the end of each month.

Been at the club for nearly a decade now, and for all his downs and critism, the one thing I can say is he has always given 100% and when "on it", Quinny has always been one of the few too excite me with his quality and technique. Its easy to criticse people for backing players based on just thier effort (like we do with Monty for example - god love him but he's not in the same bracket as Quinn), but with Quinny we can all see (or those not completely looking for any reason to take a pop at the club or its players) he is much more than just effort, and should the call come from a club like Swansea, QPR, or whoever, then we can surely admit that he is obviously not a bad player after all.

We'll definitely miss him if and when he does leave, and for those lamenting him for only starting to play for the latter end of last season, can I ask...

If you want to criticise anyone for thier performance last season, surely its wiser to aim the fury at those who didn't "start playing" at ALL last season (aka Ched, Cresswell, Nos, Yeates et al) rather than the ONE player who actually did put in the effort?? And to say you "wouldn't want him next to me in the trenches" - i'd say quite the opposite, when all around him showed no sign of effort or even caring of the dire situation, quinn stood up and counted and, in Morgs absence, showed the only quality of leadership in the squad, by being an example to those failing around him of what we demand from our players, and what is needed when to going gets tough - much rather him in our trench, than the pitiful performances of Yeates and his neshing out of tackles and running blindly into players and showing absolutely no effort or care for this club...

Well done Quinny for your performances last season, the ONE and ONLY senior player who can take any deserved credit from last season, and that comes from someone who has slagged you to high heaven at times in the past, but i'm pleased to say you have proved me and many more wrong, and if/when you leave you should be afforded the same respect that we hold for all the other blades who have had the honour to play for this club of ours for so very long.

UTB!!
Nice post, fully agree. Quinny looked decent in the PL, even though he wasn't consistant at that point, and he's the best free kick taker in the squad.

good luck quinny where ever you end up. Same to monty. Yes we have had better but we also have had much worse. Ertl for one thats worse

Surprise? No
Dissapointing? Hell no.

Took the words right out of my mouth Sitters. A slightly improved version of Monty IMO, nowt but a "trier" that has tipified SUFC over the last few years. Get shut.

Wouldn't be overly worried if he left. Would command a fee, release wages and give us a chance to freshen up the squad.

I wouldn't even class him as a trier ,he cons his team mates. I have a 7 year old daughter who can't hide as well as Quinn ,but she can run around and pretend to be usefull as well as holding her head in her hands when disappointed and throwing little strops when she doesn't get her own way. In fact Quinny can borrow her booster seat to tootle off to reserve team football in the Championship in his ridiculously inappropraite Q7.

I think he'd do a decent jn in League 1, but like just about every player on our books, he's worth about a quarter of what we pay him.

A bit harsh. He's a decent footballer whose career suffered for being employed in the centre midfield of a long-ball team. Whether or not his energies were always well directed is another question, but his heart was always in the right place. When playing wide left no-one accused him of hiding.

Good luck to him when he leaves.

How many decimal places are required to work out Ched's cost/value ratio?

I don't think we want any players playing next season who want away. Will he be missed? Maybe Is he replaceable? Definitely and probably on less wages.

Love him or hate him, comments like this are totally out of order.

Give the lad some respect.

My respect is earnt not given for half a dozen above average performances a season.

If he stays and knuckles down he may well earn it if he does a runner he will in my opinion (if thats all right with you )be a little shit.

Good job the fans dont run away to a better club everytime the going gets tough:p

"I love the club"
"I want to be fully focused when pre-season begins to help the Blades bounce back"
"I will remain 100 per cent committed to Sheffield United."

Cant believe some of the crap written here sometimes. Player gives 9 years of his career and sees the club he is playing for going down the crapper. He wants to play as high up the scale as he can at the peak of his career. All some want to do is kick the crap out of him. He isn't the best but he doesn't owe us anything and if he goes it will be with good wishes from myself. Also, read what he has said. He would find it hard to turn a move to a better club down but will stay if that doesn't happen. No biggie from what I can see.

No offence but if he takes home his wages every month whilst being crap / under performed for 7 out of the nine years he has been at united, then i think he does owe us something. You never see a football player say "I was shit this week / month or I was injured so I won't take me wages home". Footballers have it too good, esp compared to the rest of us. You never see a footballer getting sacked because he didn't do his job

As I said in my reports for the last couple of games I got to see last year; Quinn looked like he cared.

I'd miss the second half of the season version - the one who got the ball down and looked to make things happen. I wouldn't miss the Blackwell version with the aimless over the shoulder punts and lack of positional awareness.

Those parts of the article are just the bits of Quinn covering his arse in case he can't find anybody else stupid enough to dish out a ridiculous contract of the size we gave him. He'd love to leave but knows very few will match his contract - hence not wanting to alienate his existing "fans". Nothing more.

It's not really all that surprising for Quinny to want out. He is fairly comfortable at Championship level and could do a job in almost any team at that level. Being left footed helps him as players with a decent left peg tend to be in short supply. I know Swansea have long been interested in him and it wouldn't surprise me to see them come in for him. He would be a decent squad player for them and could maintain a decent salary there. In all honesty I would rather keep him at the lane for the coming season but if a Swansea or a Wigan come in for him you cant really stop the lad. He's been a good servant to SUFC, has taken a lot of stick and never really complained. He busted a gut trying to keep us up and for me he was by far the best player over the course of the season. If we can get a minimum 500k for him he would go with my best wishes.

Mmmm, so Slews out because he might want to go to Fulham (I would if I were him), Henderson, Evans, Quinn, Monty, Yeates. OK they are gone. Boggy. Gone. Simonsen, gone. Williamson can play Championship, lets get him out because he might have illusions of playing elsewhere.

So we are left with?

FFS get real, these are professional footballers. Every one who is good enough wants to play at the highest possible level. They aren't staying because of Sheffield United. Do you think even players like Morgan wouldn't be off to the Premiership if the chance was offered? Because if you think any one of our players wouldn't leave given the offer of more money and a better positioned club then theres something wrong with you.

Bit like you working for Ragbag limited on minimum wage and Blue Chip Inc comes along offers you 4 times your existing salary and a pension, company car with all the trimmings. Your not going to say "naa, I like it here. I don't care if they are shit, you can keep your fancy dan job".

Footballers are employees and will be sold to the highest bidder if and when McCabe gets the chance.

Some will be professional enough to give it their all next season regardless, some won't. Which ones would you keep?

Hope Quinn stays but won't be too upset if he does. He had a good second half of the season however most our team were shocking so could have probably made any one trying look decent. He will soon be forgotten if he does leave, I never thought he scored enough goals to be honest.

You know the ones better than anyone else? Quinn has never struck me as a quitter and as he is the subject matter here, I would keep him. Seems he doesn't actually want to go that much either.

I'd say thats a fair comment.

Without severe pay cuts I'd move on every senior player on the books.

,

said all along his form picked up because he could see the writing on the wall and was playing for a move.

His form picked up once he was told to play a simpler game; under Blackwell possession was frowned upon. About the only thing Adams did well was recognise that Quinn's strength lies in playing a short, high tempo game.

in one paper its reported Wigans put in a 1.5 million bid

take it quick before they come down from whatever their taking

I love the club and having been here almost nine years I can safely say that I am a Sheffield United fan

Why do players say this bollocks? yes he has been here 9 year but to say that while in the same section say you want to leave, absolute madness.

Just like that stupid quote from Jags which is at Bramall Lane, absolute bollocks.
