You managed to pick 2 good ones last season!
Notts County was good, it was the game they sensibly increased our allocation and gave us one side of the ground and made it pay on the door. It was the last minute when I decided to go to Chessy and all the away tickets were sold out so I spent an uncomfortable afternoon sat with the Chessy fans. Their 'security' when I bought the ticket over the phone was amusing :-

Me : Hello I'd like to buy ticket for the Chesterfield v Sheff Utd game
Ticket Office Lady : You're not a Sheff Utd supporter are you?
Me : Er... no.
Ticket Office Lady : Ok, that'll be £20*

*Can't remember how much the ticket was.

A mate told me they got the side stand when he went to Rochdale (5-2 win in the Ched season). Hoping it'll be the same when I go.

For all the stick Crawley gets in this thread here let’s remember one thing. They honoured Shred’s memory impeccably last season. I also engaged in an email exchange with their chairman to thank them and he was very complimentary about our club and wished us every success. I’ve not been to Crawley so can’t say what it’s like as a place but as a club, I have nothing but respect.

I feel like a right bastard now :(

I take all that back.

It should be. Wigan have increased our allocation to 3,500 apparently so maybe they've done the same?

My first away game was at Hull, a 1-4 defeat in 1983 and I didn't see us win away for quite a while to the point where I convinced myself I was jinxing the team! I was offered a free ticket to see us play at Hillsborough when we won 3-1 in 1992 and turned it down because I thought if I went, we'd lose!

Not all down to you mate and you may well be right about the town in general. I have no idea. Just thought their impeccable actions last season deserved another mention.
Fair comment Dane and I've nothing against the club.

I used to work in Crawley, it's a 'new town' and a bit of a dump but it's undergoing some major redevelopment at the moment so will improve. It's certainly big enough to support a league club but obviously they suffer from being easy travelling distance from London and Brighton.

It is embarrassing with the sort of fan girl reaction we've given it all. Imagine if a Man Utd fan came and had a look at this forum, they wouldn't be leaving un-cringed.

Nobody's suggesting certain "extra" supporters don't or don't deserve to attend, just to temper their eagerness a bit to avoid tarring the fanbase as a screeching set of over-excitables.

As regards Crawley, I reckon they deserve respect as a town/club purely because that's where The Cure originated from. Makes Crawley sort of hallowed ground as far as I'm concerned.

Biggest Blades eh? - well, I'm 6'4" and some way north of 16 stone, so I might qualify

However, my last match was Spurs, and I'm not going tomorrow

United don't come and see me when I'm bad :)

Agree totally. I've seen some cringeworthy over reactions on here. Fairly recently as well.

Very good point, forgot about that. Utmost credit to them for doing that.

I don't know if the entire upper tier was stood, but as far as i could see around us was for the whole game.

I guess my message reached the masses after all
Round me a few on the front row were sat down but everyone else was standing for the entire game.

But the important question is.....

Did they go the Oldham match?

This is the ultimate measure of Unitedism apparently.

I went to Gillingham, surely that is even more important than Oldham?!

Is there a scale for the 'Biggest Blade'?
There most certainly is. At one end is all those fans that think, and are only too happy to state, that they are a bigger Blades than others because of various different reasons. At the other end there is everyone else who just accepts that someone simply identifying themselves as being a Blade is more than enough.

Don't you go then ? :)

Yes they were. There was a lady must've been late 60s - early 70s, complete with walking stick who after walking up to row 36 on top tier was then forced to stand for 90mins, sitting down for spells to save her legs.

Has anyone ever said they were a Bigger Blade than anyone else? The only people who I ever see trot it out are people who can't accept that those who go to games have a greater insight than those who listen to the radio / see the result on the web.

I have actually, a number of times, even in the ground I've been told "I'd only had a ST since the Premiership, all ST holders in John Street were the same, and he'd been going since the 80's" all because we'd asked him to move out of our seat and he wanted it because it had a better view. It's sad but it's true.
On your point, I don't think it's "bigger Blade" territory to suggest that someone at the game has a better insight into how someone has been playing. On the radio for example you can't possibly know how someone is playing unless they've got the ball, but at the match you can see the runs or at least what they are trying to do. That's not bigger Blade its just common sense, although you also have to factor in that going to games doesn't necessarily mean they see the game as you would , but that's a personal thing. I'd put forward the scapegoating as evidence of that, where I just don't seem to see half the stuff people moan about Coutts or Long for yet they do it anyway.
