I'm interested in those wise critics of 'bandwaggoners' and 'big day outers'. What do they expect?

We have drawn Manchester United in the FA Cup. We have the potential to take nearly nine thousand fans to fill a section of one of the most iconic grounds in the country, in a cup game, on the tellybox.

Now, do they think that those 'smaller Blades' should say, "Oooh. I'll stay at home, me. This one is for the biggest of bigger Billy big Blades"? In which case, on average, we'd be pushed to fill a eighth of that. "Some 'following'", the rest of the world would say, considering the distance and the reputation United has as a Championship side trapped by fate in a league below their true aims. And The Massive wouldn't half laugh at us. Forever. Because, y'know, they'd take 1.6m to Old Trafford. Could you imagine the happy sights of a full Old Trafford with 'our section' showing empty seats, and GCB only heard at half time?

Or do they want to STFU and stop being so bloody precious?

As if this club hasn't enough chimps.

Laid out the ensemble last night

Midas Gold Home Shirt, black shorts and flip-flops

Jester Hat

Half and Half Scarf tied round the wrist

Dayglo Bum Bag for essentials, ticket, proof of age, and flare

And iPad for selfies

Nailed it

Tho' ....... will there be face painting available ?

Is there a scale for the 'Biggest Blade'?

I would imagine top would be those that go to every game including pre-season friendlies and U21 games too. I imagine bottom would be someone who never goes to any games but still feels qualified enough to know who should or shouldn't be playing, someone like Barney.

I'm a season ticket holder so unless there's a very good reason, I go to all home games but as I have a family and have to be careful with finance, I can't make away games, however I try to make a couple a season. Last season I went to Chesterfield and Notts County. I haven't been to any this season and although I could have gone to Old Trafford, I've decided not to, but I am going to Wigan next Tuesday as I have a mate that lives there. Hoping to go to the Keepmoat this season too.

Stop being ridiculous. It has absolutely zero to do with being a bigger Blade. Nobody told anybody not to go. I hope the Blades turn up in force and rock Old Trafford. I hope they enjoy the game. But some people on this board are acting like a bunch of teenage girls at a Justin Bieber concert. It's unbecoming.

Yeh! let all joint great Sheffield United bandwagon? It's like a carnival every week.
Following the Blades is the nearest thing self harming I can think of.
Let em take their selfies at the Busby statue and wear their friendship scarves if they want.

It's everything 'Bigger Blade'. It's what makes this site shit at times. Huge amounts of waving of johnsons and 'qualifications' for being a Sheffield United supporter. The whole enjoyment (or misery as it is) is sucked out of it by Massive, Huge, Bigger than thou Blades criticising anyone who can't recite Clareborough, know how many steps are in the South Stand tunnel out onto the pitch, how much aggregated time you spend on the terraces/seats, how much money you 'pump into the club' and wether or not you're worthy of a seat in Old Trafford to watch us get walloped by Man U. Why can't people just live and let live and enjoy the moment? Sure, we'll get dicked. As long as 'our section' is still singing at 88 minutes and the players get a spell out against PL opposition and put in a shift for once (which I predict they might just do that) who cares who gets a seat and gets all excited at it?

How is it possible that I, who have not been to a match in about four years, shake my head at some of the giddy posts? How do you possibly explain that as being "Bigger Blade" nonsense?

fans of premier league teams get excited at drawing man utd

dont see why we shouldnt
this will only be our 6th visit to old trafford in the past 40 years since 1976
to face Manchester United
8 if you count 2 FA cup semis
so once every 5 years at best on average

Why should you shake your head?

People are pumped. Let them get on with it. I expect they were the same vs Spuds last season and City Hull the season before.

Its football. Some people on here are giveing the characteristic 'if youre not a season ticket holder and have every shirt including the 89 classic you don't deserve to sit in the stand at OT'.

its 8 years since we last played there
at least 3 till we go in the league again , unless something miraculous happens
or they get relegated

Same people that get their precious knickers in a twist about extra away fans for games like this are more often than not the same people that tug each other off talking about our away attendances.

But that was not the point of the OP at all. It was expressing annoyance at people getting all giddy at going to OT as if we are Stocksbridge Parks Steel or something. I agree that that is embarrassing as it happens.

No-one has said that you can't get excited about the game unless you have been to every last game in the past 67 years.

The 2-1 win against Man Utd in the Cup in 93 is looked on by many as one of our greatest victories in recent memory. We were in the same league then, and at home. It's quite understandable that people are getting excited about the prospect of seeing a League One Blades team win at Old Trafford.

How dare Sheffield United fans get excited about playing at Manchester United when we've had the luxuries of Rochdale, Port Vale and Yeovil away for the last few years.

For shame.

Not excited by it at all. We will probably get a result tomorrow and then lose at Wigan. I know which I would prefer

That's probably the most poetic description of Crawley that's ever existed!

For all the stick Crawley gets in this thread here let’s remember one thing. They honoured Shred’s memory impeccably last season. I also engaged in an email exchange with their chairman to thank them and he was very complimentary about our club and wished us every success. I’ve not been to Crawley so can’t say what it’s like as a place but as a club, I have nothing but respect.

I’m in pretty much the same boat coaxingstar. Did Donny and Barnsley last season. Looking at Rochdale this season as it’s a ground I’ve not done before. Can’t wait as like you, with a young family, opportunities for away days are now few and far between.

I can kind of see where the OP is coming from. We are a decent sized club who should be looking to at least play a fair percentage of seasons in the PL. Man U away in the FA cup 3rd round shouldn’t be a really exciting occasion against one of the big boys. They are the team that were humbled by Brian Deane on the opening day of the Premier League, the team we knocked out on our route to Wembley in 93, a team that cheated us last time we met them at Old Trafford. A team that stole our 2nd name and now pretend with the assistance of the media that they are “United” and we are “Sheffield”. Fuck em. They’re just another team who have jumped on the London prawn sandwich fan rip off bandwagon.

But

When you spend 5 years going to places like Scunthorpe, Crawley, Crewe, Fleetwoood, Stevenage, Yeovil, Oldham etc. playing in front of crowds of 5-8k It is an occasion to go to one of the best grounds in the country and play in front of circa 70k. It’s an atmosphere we don’t get to regularly experience anymore so some excitement is understandable. Rather than it being a fault of the fans for being excited, I’d say it’s just another marker of how far the club has fallen that this fixture generates as much excitement as it does.

Crawley will always be a special place for A certain bus full of blades.#Spencerstours

I'm not ashamed to say that I'm very excited for tomorrow and will enjoy the day regardless of the scoreline.

We should be in a position to go there more regularly but why not enjoy the fact that we're going rather than bemoan the fact we're not in a position to compete at places like this more often.

You managed to pick 2 good ones last season!
Notts County was good, it was the game they sensibly increased our allocation and gave us one side of the ground and made it pay on the door. It was the last minute when I decided to go to Chessy and all the away tickets were sold out so I spent an uncomfortable afternoon sat with the Chessy fans. Their 'security' when I bought the ticket over the phone was amusing :-

Me : Hello I'd like to buy ticket for the Chesterfield v Sheff Utd game
Ticket Office Lady : You're not a Sheff Utd supporter are you?
Me : Er... no.
Ticket Office Lady : Ok, that'll be £20*

*Can't remember how much the ticket was.
