"Lads, I need you to go out, and do exactly enough so it doesn't look like we're taking the piss and just handing this game over to Walsall. Don't work too hard. Anyone that pulls a hammy or tweaks an ankle working too hard in this pointless, tin-pot, even-less-respectable-than-it-was-last-season trophy is getting fined a month's wages. Sorted? Sorted."
Don't kid yourself Carthesis, they tried their best but were so lacking in basic skills it was embarrassing, 2,600 of us thinking god help us with this lot as first teamers and back up squad, where are we going to get 30 more points to stay up.

The highlight of the game was their number 10, Otzumer, whose claim to fame is that he once played as a ringer for Willy Wonka's company 5-a-side team. Wiki has him at 5'3, but I can only assume that's in 6 inch platform shoes.

Frankly, there were only two players on the pitch starting for us to whom the game might have mattered just a little bit. One was Brown, on a short-term contract, no doubt looking to make an impression. He put in two or three good crosses. I'll make no other comment on him at this time. The other was the young lad, Brooks, who will have wanted to push himself up the ranks a little. Thought he did okay, definitely didn't do poorly, but didn't make much of an impact either aside from the odd neat touch. One to watch out for in the future, I'm sure.

The rest of the team appeared more concerned with the dirt under their finger nails than what was going on around them. Done ran around a lot, because he seems to enjoy that, and Basham tackled a bit, because he obviously loves that. Nothing else to report.

Let's be fair, we treated this competition with far more respect and effort than it deserves.

Just watched the game back in full (zzzzzzzzzz).

We were missing players but we still lack physicality, and lack quality in the final third. We need Clarke and Lavery, the least they'll do is freshen it up.

Brown didn't actually look that bad. A couple of mistakes were punished with goals, but he put in a few good crosses, and generally looked quite tidy with the ball.

Duffy wasn't inept, shocking or whatever, he just didn't get involved that much or have any real influence. We can't be relying on him as our creative spearhead every week. Or if we are, he really needs more pace and movement around him.

Brooks showed ability but didn't have a great game.

I'm getting sick of Done's limitations again and I think he needs a spell out of the side. Missed too many chances, offside too often and simply lacks quality, in fact he sums up our lack of quality. Resting him regularly is probably a good idea with him due to the energy he uses.

Coutts was hardly great, but he gets us playing, simple as that.

Oztumer looked good again, I wish he was in our squad instead of Scougall. Also thought Edwards (2) and Dobson (6) had decent games in midfield.

If Shields has really said that ,he either wasn't there or should never report on football again as he clearly has no idea. It was truly one of the worst individual performances I have seen from a senior player at the Lane.
He certainly did Sitters in today's Star match report.
He rarely criticises anything United for fear of losing his in house privileges but to say Duffy had a good game (or words to that effect) beggars belief

Barring for the goal Coutts was also awful, and I don't know how Brown managed to wangle a contract :/ Whiteman looked good when he came on - seeing how we are desperatly in need of a ball playing, forward looking mind fielder, does anyone know why CW hasn't given him a start in this naff competition?

Were you sat with James Shield?
