Priority - Training Ground

Forget signing players, first and foremost we must fix that training ground over the summer to avoid the ridiculous number of long term injuries that it's caused this season and last season. The board simply must find the funds for this. Wilder raised his concerns four years ago and nothing has changed. Arguably this has cost us promotion.

Having lost O'Connell for two seasons, Berge for the whole of last season, Sharp, Basham, Brewster, Bogle, Baldock, Stevens, Didsy and McBurnie (no loss there really) on top of that for lengthy periods, there are no acceptable excuses for not addressing this as a priority.
 

Out of all the blades fans in the world, it would be interesting to know how many trade lot we have, we probably could have done it ourselves from the roofers and brickies etc in our fan base giving out a free few hours. Like DIY sos but for the club!

I expect next season to be one where we sort things out off-field and largely make do on the pitch. I suspect this won't be enough for most of our fans who demand promotion regardless of how much or little money there is to spend on players.

I'm not expecting us to go up next season. We spent nothing last summer, even after we sold Ramsdale, so I can't see anything changing this summer, even if we sell Berge.
 
Yes we need to spend money on the training ground but at the end of the day we can't spend all of our money on the training ground to the detriment of the team as we all know we need several new players for next season.

We need the training pitch sorting, that's a given but the rest of the plans on the training ground may have to wait because not getting promoted has really put a huge black hole in the finances with ongoing payments for the likes of McBurnie and Brewster no doubt still owed and the main way to sort the cashflow is obviously to get promoted, otherwise it'll be massive cut backs over the next few years to make the club sustainable and we could send up as the next Stoke, Cardiff etc who just don't have the finances to compete with the relegated teams. Thankfully we've got some great youngsters coming through of course and yes that of course relates to the training ground being up-to-date. It's a balancing act of course.

How many on that list suffered their injuries during games?

You can beat the Comkon Sense drum as much as you want. Imagine spending the budget on the trading ground rather than the squad. Be uproar.
 
I watched the Heck managerial appointment back yday and one thing he said that I missed first time around is the that they hope potential recruits buy into tue clubs ability to develop them because the money and facilities won’t attract them..

I don't disagree that we need to improve the facilities but I'm not sure they're the main factor in the longer term injuries this season.

We had a pre-season which involved flying out to Gibraltar with each player having 45 minutes against a semi-pro side, flying back and the whole team had to train solo for 10 days because of isolation then shoehorn two (or was it one?) friendly/lies in then straight into competitive football. It's no wonder we were undercooked. Add to that we lost almost a month of football in December just as Hecky was trying to raise the training intensity following Jokanovic's departure and the injuries mounting up aren't really a surprise.

These aren't lads who go out and play on a Sunday after a few beers, they're highly tuned athletes and the pre-season was ridiculous for a professional football club.

Granted it needs an upgrade but how about Wilder's first 4 seasons here where we had pretty much all first choice starters available for nearly every match?

Is the feasibility of the training ground deteriorating this season and last really the major cause of all these injuries?

Not sure we have replaced some medical staff either.
 
Signing players is still just as big a priority though. Midfield needs seriously strengthening, we need to replace MGW and most likely Berge, we need a proper No.9 to complement our existing strike force, and probably a CB or 2.
 
People are forgetting that we have an owner who had to remortgage his house to run the club

The main priority should be to get the Fake sheikh out of this club
 
Hecky said there is a full review of the various injuries as to the cause. The training ground is but one. I think the poor pre-season and then trying to play catch up fitness wise when Hecky came, the Covid hiatus followed by 17 games in 67 days or something like that all will have contributed not to mention the training pitches. If a player ifs fully match fit in August the subsequent training is to maintain that level and manage injuries. The serious nature of Bogle, McGoldrick, Basham, Bogle, Stevens and Brewster's injuries suggest a mixture of the above. I also think the pitch at BL needs to be considered as well. So many players of both teams have slipped on it through the seasons and certainly in the last two or three games. That is never good for muscles if a foot slips when you plant your weight on it. Is there really a need for a half time soaking after the pre-match preparation?

It didn't only cost us promotion but will have contributed to relegation in the first place, and cost us one of our best ever managers.

I would replace him with somebody like who invested in man city or the ones who took over PSG

I cant confirm as I cant see the future but by your logic we would never change manager or players or kit or anything

Doubt it - I think the injuries are more likely being used as leverage to try and get the facilities upgraded. I reckon the primary reason for the injuries is more likely due to the covid cancellations and subsequent fixture congestion around February time.

In reality this was a false season, in that so many uncontrollable Covid and injury events happened, we cannot be sure of our true capabilities. Had we gone up, with legacy players and no money or owner, it could've been 20/21 and losing every week.
Perhaps a stabilizing season was for the best. The no strikers tactic, may need settling in, but with the right personel it could be a far more lucrative one then the normal formation. Indeed the development of MGW may well preempt others to offer their star juniors as they know we will turn the good ones into stars..

Clubs fucking around with COVID cases and getting matches postponed didn't help either. Glad none of those clubs got promoted the shithousing pricks.
