The Pompey players sent off were Billy Gilbert, Mick Tait (both defenders) and Kevin Dillon (midfielder)
One of them - I think Tait but stand to be corrected - was sent off for fighting with Beagrie, who was also dismissed.

The final sending off was for a horror tackle on the left wing as we broke late in the first half.

I vaguely remember the cheering when the first one got his marching orders but can’t remember what that was for!

The ref, Kelvin Morton, was generally regarded as hopeless. A couple of years after this he awarded Palace 8 penalties in a 3 game span of refereeing them (he gave them 4 in the last game - Palace missed 3 but won 2-1 anyway).

Yes it was Tait who got sent off the same time was Beagrie. Tait became one of our coaches in later years

How about 41/42 years ago? Either January '83 or December '84.

Portsmouth fans arriving at Sheffield station (lovely Berghaus Ice Cap btw).

Youthful exuberance on Furnival Street, running towards Furnival Gate.

Boxing Day 84 I think .. I got nicked that day 🙄

There was trouble before the January 1983 game.

The 1984 game was 29 December: we lost at Fulham on Boxing Day. Not sure if there was trouble before that game.
I remember the 84 game because the Kop ironically cheered Portsmouths goal in Uniteds 4-1 win. We were 4-0 up when Portsmouth got a last minute pen and scored it...

It was 0-0 until about 65 minutes when Alan Knight kicked the ball straight to Glenn Cockerill by accident, and Cockerill lobbed him: a great goal. We scored 3 more in the next 10 mins to blow the game open. It all came completely out of the blue. As you say they scored a very late consolation.

Knew it was Christmas time I didn’t get out of the nick until 8 o’clock think we played Birmingham at home New Years Day

Sounds like there's always been abit of trouble with Pompey? Saturday we're a vocal group in genting who eventually moved on. (Good job)
